Description & Requirements
We welcome advanced degrees (graduate students, post docs, and medical residents) to join us for a one-week program that immerses you in the consulting world. You'll receive training and work on a real case team with clients. This is your chance to build business skills, step outside academia, and experience life as a Bain consultant.
An exciting alternative to academia
Open exclusively to advanced degrees and hosted by North American offices, your ADvantage experience begins with one full day of training followed by four days staffed on a real case team managing your own workstream. Throughout the program, you’ll enjoy a variety of social activities to meet the members of our teams, experience our rich and unique culture, and connect with leaders and mentors who’ll share their own Bain journey. At the end of the program, you’ll get to present your findings to the case team.
ADvantage is designed to help you apply your problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills to a real business problem facing our clients. It’s a bridge from academia to industry, and at the end, if successful, you’ll receive a full-time consultant offer to join the office where you completed the program—so be sure to select an office where you’d be excited to work.

How to apply for this program
ADvantage is for individuals who are currently enrolled in their second-to-last year of their graduate degree, or who graduated within the last three years. Candidates should be targeting a full-time start date the following calendar year when applying.
Eligible degrees include: PhDs, post-doctorates, JDs, MDs, medical residents and fellows, PharmDs, and other doctorate-level degrees. Current non-MBA master’s candidates who have also had more than three years of relevant business experience after completing their bachelor’s degree, are also eligible.
International students are eligible and welcome to apply. If you are studying in the U.S. with a student visa, please talk to your advisor about what you’ll need to do to apply for CPT or OPT in order to participate in ADvantage.
We are looking for applicants who have outstanding academic performance, strong leadership/team skills, are energized by solving tough problems and driving real impact, and demonstrate interest in business and/or consulting.
Apply in January 2025
Applications for our 2024 ADvantage program are now closed. Our 2025 ADvantage program application launch will be in January 2025. Stay connected for official announcements by joining our mailing list, or reach out to the ADvantage team!
Application format
- A 1–2 page business-format resume
- Cover letter
- Recent test scores (GRE, LSAT, MCAT, etc.), if applicable
- Bain office(s) of interest
Interview format
If selected, you’ll participate in two 40-minute interviews known as case interviews, where you’ll work through the type of problem our clients face. Don’t worry, there are no wrong answers—these questions are meant to tease out your unique strengths and help us both understand if you’d likely be successful in a consulting role.
Everything you need to know
-
Which offices host ADvantage?
Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco/Silicon Valley, Seattle, Toronto, and Washington D.C.
-
How should I choose a Bain office location when submitting an application?
In the application, you will have the ability to select up to three Bain offices that interest you the most. You will then need to allocate 100 percentage points across these office(s) to reflect your interest-level in each office. The offices that you select in your application will become the office(s) that consider you for their ADvantage program and for their full-time consultant roles following the ADvantage program.
-
Please note: transfer requests to join a different office for the full-time consultant role from where you completed your program will not be available.
-
-
I’m interested in a Bain office that is not offering this program. Will you make an exception?
Unfortunately not. If your office isn’t listed, that office is not hosting an Advantage Program. Consider applying for a full-time consultant role later in the year for the office you’re interested in.
-
If I applied for the 10-week Summer Associate program, can I also apply for ADvantage?
Yes. Given how competitive these programs tend to be, we actually encourage you to apply to both. However, you’ll only be invited to participate in one of them.
-
If I applied to or interviewed for ADvantage and was not selected, can I still apply for a full-time position?
Yes. Unsuccessfully applying to this program won’t affect your candidacy for another role. They’re two completely separate recruitment processes, and not succeeding in one isn’t an indication that you wouldn’t be a fit for the other. Plus, sometimes, those extra months of preparation in-between really help!
-
How can I get in touch and stay up to date?
Drop us a line with your resume today via [email protected] to get in touch with our recruiting team. You can also join the AD mailing list to stay informed of our latest recruiting events and application deadlines!
-
How soon will I be notified about the status of my application / are applications rolling?
Applications are not rolling. We do not begin our final selection process until all applications have been received and the application deadline has passed.
Applicants can expect an email with the outcome of their application by late March. Interviews will take place in mid-April and will be held virtually.
