Nutcracker Christmas Sign…so easy with transfers and thrifted sign!

Hello beautiful friends!

It’s Trashy Treasures Tuesday and I am here to share something super fun for the holidays with you! AND it was simple (and cheap) to make. My kind of makeover/decor.

If you are new here, some friends and I get together the second Tuesday of every month to share a brand new “trash to treasure” makeover. To see their makeovers be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom after reading my post. Enjoy!

Nutcracker Christmas Sign – How To

Here is what I found at the thrift store…

white and wood sign that says ps i love you

Cute sign! And you could totally use it as-is. Thrifting is a win for so many reasons.
You can find decor/gifts/furniture for your home without spending a fortune. Plus, you can find things to make over too!

Like this one!

The paper covering the back was torn in a few places so I just removed all of it. (see the original price of this? 24.99)

I paid a few dollars for it.

Once the paper was off, I decided to lightly sand the black lettering off so it wouldn’t show through the paint. Because I was planning on painting it white and adding things from this transfer.

It came off without removed the white background.

So I cleaned it up, taped the frame to get it ready to paint, laid out the nutcrackers to see how was going to arrange them…

Isn’t that so cute??

But then I realized I didn’t need to paint the background!! You couldn’t see where the lettering was and I kind of liked the worn look of the white paint underneath.
Yay! That just made this project SUPER simple!

So I started applying the transfers right on top without painting anything.

As you can see, I cut out the snowflakes and stars to add all around the nutcrackers.

transferring the nutcrackers

It was a lot to transfer but I absolutely love all the “snow and stars” in and around the nutcrackers.

I applied one coat of Tough Coat Topcoat in matte to seal and protect the transfer.

What an easy project! I love those kinds. ;)

I’m not sure where I’ll put this one in my decor because I have yet to decorate. It’s been so busy around here that I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Plus, I just got back from a long weekend trip with our daughter this past weekend. I may share about the trip later!
