Conservative MPs were joined by a cow in Westminster on Tuesday morning in the latest protest against Labour’s inheritance tax raid on farmers.
The cow – called Vicky – was joined by Kemi Badenoch, the Conservative leader, and other members of the shadow cabinet including Mel Stride, the shadow chancellor, and Victoria Atkins, the shadow environment secretary.
The stunt was organised to protest against changes to inheritance tax that mean farms worth more than £1 million will be subject to a 20 per cent levy.
Posing on College Green, MPs held signs that read: “Keir Starmer: Farmer Harmer” and “Stop the family farm tax” as they prepared to deliver their petition calling on the Government to reverse the decision.
A “stop the family farm tax” petition claims the tax raid will stop farms being passed on to the next generation and threaten food security. The petition has its own website and has already amassed over 215,465 signatures.
Mrs Badenoch said: “Britain will never be the same if we lose our farmers. We need to protect them for the next generation. Over 200,000 people who have signed our petition against Labour’s family farm tax agree.”
