I have been spending a lot of time on Twitter lately. I have to go into the hospital soon for a few days and I didn't want to be cut off from this source of news, entertainment, cat pictures, and information. (I mostly follow political news and current events on Twitter. It's a great source for both, and the information is the most up-to-date possible.) So I bought a Kindle Fire (I don't have a smartphone) and I downloaded this app.
I am an absolute neophyte when it comes to using the Android operating system, or in fact, any kind of touch screen device other than my Kindle Paperwhite, but I was easily able to get this up and running. I did have to reset my password, but mostly because I forgot what it was (I tend to leave myself logged in on my laptop), but that went smoothly and the new password was accepted and stored by the app.
If someone I follow posts a link to a news article, tapping on it opens the web page with the article. That is pretty seamless and intuitive and works just like the web version of Twitter. Scrolling up or down to see more tweets is also easy. Liking and retweeting is similarly easy and intuitive, as is following someone new (or unfollowing, as the case may be). I have not yet had cause to block anyone using the app, but everything else works the same as the desktop/web version, so I imagine that will be easy, as well.
In a way, this looks nicer than the web version. I guess because the whole screen is used and there's not just a bunch of blank areas on both sides of the main feed of tweets.
Typing without a keyboard is a little cumbersome, but Twitter requires you to stick to 140 characters or fewer, so writing tweets is manageable. Autocomplete helps (just pay attention so you don't send out something silly).
Anyway, if you are familiar with the desktop/web version of Twitter and want a portable version, this is a great option. It is one of the easiest apps to install and run that I have tried to use since I set up my Kindle Fire.
