No-Fail Pie Crust

4.7
(301)

This no-fail pie crust is easy to make. I found this recipe years ago and have not used any other recipe since then. This dough freezes very well, and the recipe makes enough dough for three 9-inch pie crusts.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 24 servings

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup shortening

  • ¼ cup cold water

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar

Directions

  1. Whisk flour and salt together in a large bowl. Cut in shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. Mix cold water, egg, and vinegar together in a separate bowl. Add to flour mixture and blend with a fork until a ball of dough forms. Divide into three equal balls; flatten each ball into a disk. Wrap disks in plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to use.

To Bake:

Roll one disk on a lightly floured surface to fit an 8- or 9-inch pie pan. Bake as directed in your pie recipe.
