For a lot of us, it’s probably a seasoning that our moms or grandmas always used and we just adopted it as our own (much like most of our cooking skills). If that’s the case for you, you’re certainly not alone in using mom’s cooking chops—in fact, you’re in pretty great company since that’s what beloved country singer and first-time cookbook author Miranda Lambert has done too. Lambert’s new cookbook “Y’all Eat Yet?” features recipes from her mom Bev and her grandmother Nonny’s kitchens—plus a few from the women who helped raise her, the Ya-yas, too. The Grammy-winning artist and her mama recently went on “Good Morning America” to chat about the new book and what it was like growing up in the Lambert kitchen. “We based everything around food. Most of my great memories are attached to who I had the meals with,” Lambert told “GMA.” Because her mom’s cooking was such a big part of Lambert’s life, “GMA” brought in Bev herself to ask what she always keeps in her pantry. The answer? Two seasonings that Bev says will “fix” any dish: a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning and Zatarain's Creole Seasoning. “Ranch dressing will put the flavor in anything,” Bev says. And she’s right, you know, we use dried ranch seasoning in our roasts, dips, burgers, marinades, and even sprinkled on roasted veggies. There’s really nothing a packet of HVR can’t do. As far as the Creole seasoning goes, Bev says she and Miranda “carry [it] in [their] purse” because it’s “emergency seasoning.” Creole seasoning has it all, from earthy herby flavors to a savory and slightly spicy kick, which is likely why Bev says it’s “life-changing.” Lambert’s first-ever cookbook, which is filled with entertaining recipes and down-home comfort food, is available now. So when you see ranch or Creole seasoning as an ingredient, you’ll know which woman in Lambert’s life to thank for the tasty creation. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why!
