Food News and Trends Grocery Costco’s New Take-And-Bake Meal Has Customers Shocked But not over the flavor. By Annie Campbell Published on September 24, 2024 Close Photo: Adobe/Allrecipes There are many times when Costco’s prepared meals save the day. They can make taco night cheaper and easier than ever before, and even packing school lunchboxes a breeze. And as we roll into fall, we can guarantee Costco soups are about to fill our fridges wall to wall. Costco members have fallen in love with many of the meal kits stocked in the refrigerated section. From chicken-and-cheese quesadillas to the hearty meatloaf and mashed potatoes, these kits are a lifesaver for busy families. But recently, some customers stumbled upon a new option that’s causing a bit of sticker shock—something we don’t hear too often from die-hard Costco fans. Costco’s New Take-and-Bake Margherita Pizza Costco is now offering a Margherita pizza on a Roman-style Pinsa dough as part of its take-and-bake lineup, available in the prepared foods section. But this isn’t your typical Margherita pizza. In addition to the rich, San Marzano-style tomato sauce and a mix of freshly sliced and shredded mozzarella, you’ll also find stripes of Kirkland Signature’s Italian basil pesto on top, giving the pie a gourmet twist. At first glance, the pizza looks fantastic, and Costco fans were excited to see a take-and-bake pizza option back in stores after the original was discontinued. However, there’s one detail customers can’t seem to get past: the price tag. At $16.99, it’s significantly higher than what people expect to pay for a take-home meal from the warehouse store. Costco members have shared their thoughts on social media, and the consensus seems clear: The meal simply isn’t enough bang for the buck. “Maybe for $6.99 but definitely not worth $16.99,” commented one user. “Can make at home for a third the price,” another shared. One reviewer even went as far as to say that Costco is “becoming unaffordable,” which is pretty surprising considering Costco is known for its great value and bulk savings. After all, members pay the annual fee to save on groceries, not to feel like they’re splurging on takeout prices. However, some customers are happy with the homestyle pizza regardless of the price, saying it seems to be made with high-quality ingredients and is great for “dinner in a pinch.” “The flavor is a 10/10, and I love that it’s not greasy,” said one reviewer. So, while the cost might be a sticking point for some, others argue that the quality and convenience make it worth the splurge, especially when you need a quick dinner option that still feels a little elevated. Luckily, there will always be a pizza at Costco that won’t spark any debates over the price, and that’s a hot and fresh slice from the food court. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback!
