  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

  • Spread oats on a cookie sheet and toast in oven 12 minutes, stirring every few minutes.

  • Mix wheat germ, flax seed, sunflower seeds, peanuts, and almonds in a large bowl.

  • Bring brown sugar, honey, butter, and salt just to a rolling simmer, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.

  • Add vanilla.

  • Add oats and dried fruit to the contents of large bowl and stir in candy mixture.

  • Liberally grease 9/13 pan and pour granola into it and press down with wax paper.

  • Refrigerate for 2 hours.

  • Unmold onto a large cutting board. Cut in half lenthwise, then cut into 1" bars, widthwise.

  • Store in snack size plastic bags in the freezer or refrigerator.
