Made these as stated and we found them to be very bland - my husband liked the texture and they were easy to make - but said that it was kind of like having remoulade on white bread. I do suppose that I will keep it as a base and add some additional seasoning.

My husband and I both enjoyed this, but found it too spicy for our taste - so easy though that I will make again but swap out the HOT Rotel for a medium.

The favors are spot on yummy, but I used cheater (canned) beans, reduced cooking time to a little over an hour. Everything else was the same and yummy. Might cut back a smidge on the cayenne as it will be even hotter tomorrow!

I do not change recipes and rate them, so I made as stated. After tasting, however, I added some extra kick ( for personal taste), pine nuts for texture. Other than that, it was great. I would make this for a dinner party. Fast, easy and keeps well.

This was a good base as it is, but I prefer a thicker "soup" so omitted 2 cups of milk, added more onion, a good helping of salt and pepper, did not mix the bacon in, just crushed on top along with some chives. We loved it. Makes a ton - there is only two of us, I will try to half-it next time.

Finally - cornbread that doesn't turn out too crumbly and dry. I usually do not alter recipes on the first go, but I took the advice of the others and reduced the baking powder (i used 2.5 tsp) and I also soaked the cornmeal in the milk while getting the rest of the ingredients out and pre-heating the oven. I have no idea if those steps did anything, but this cornbread is great so I will stick with it.
