Coffee creamer is a household staple for many. Whether you buy your’s in a bottle or make a homemade version to last you all week, these creamers are a great way to make a quick cup of coffee better.

But sometimes you make too much or buy too much (maybe your favorite fall flavor just came out), so you're wondering how to store them all. The average shelf life for a liquid dairy creamer in the fridge is about one to two weeks, so you might get the thought to freeze any extra. But can you do this—and what is the best way to freeze coffee creamer?

Can You Freeze Coffee Creamer?

While freezing creamer is an easy way to store extra, some brands admit that this might affect the flavor. You won't get sick drinking frozen creamer, but the creamer may lose some of its freshness.

“International Delight creamer that has been frozen and thawed is safe to consume, but its flavor and texture will be dramatically inferior to the creamer you know and love—and that’s just a shame. If you absolutely must freeze it, we recommend thawing it slowly in the fridge,” says International Delight about their coffee creamer.

“Be aware that we can’t guarantee the quality of creamer that’s been frozen, and freezing doesn’t extend our creamer’s freshness date; it’s still best consumed by the date on the bottle.”

This same thinking also applies to homemade coffee creamer that's been frozen. Like so many foods that freeze and thaw, the creamer will have a slightly different texture and flavor because it's not as fresh as it once was. That being said, it's still delicious and comes in handy when you need coffee.

How to Store Coffee Creamer in the Freezer

There are a couple easy ways to store coffee creamer in the freezer. If you buy extra bottles from the store, transfer the contents to an airtight container or mason jar. The same goes if you have extra homemade creamer. Then, place it in your freezer and leave it until you need it.

Creamer can be stored in the freezer for about six months. When you do remove your creamer from the freezer, thaw in the fridge overnight and keep for no more than two weeks.

There is another method that uses an ice tray. If you have extra trays laying around, pour any extra coffee creamer into the tray and freeze. Once frozen, remove the coffee creamers from the tray and place in an airtight container or zip-top bag. Now, you have plenty of single-serving portions of creamer, ready to pull out whenever you need them.
