Are Cookie Wreaths the Next Edible Holiday Decor Trend?

Embrace the weirdness of the 2020 holiday season with an unexpected decoration.

The 2020 holiday season brings with it many challenges that none of us asked to face. Travel plans have changed, shopping has shifted online, and cherished activities like in-person cookie exchanges are off the table.

So what are we to do with all of the free time and newfound baking expertise that we acquired over the course of the last nine months? Why, fashion a bunch of Christmas cookies into an edible wreath, of course.

That outlandish idea comes courtesy of Joy the Baker, whose holiday issue shows off how one can turn cookies into an edible decoration of sorts. This particular wreath features an impressive plethora of cookies ranging from gingersnaps to fruit bars, peppermint meringues, and everything in between. It's a feast for the eyes as well as the palate, though it's hard to tell what exactly would keep this wreath together at first glance.

Maybe it's just because all this isolated time inside has made us lose our collective minds, but this cookie wreath seems to be another piece of evidence that 2020 marks the year of edible holiday decorations. At the very least, this cookie wreath is a bit less creepy and perishable than the charcuterie house idea that's been floating in the festive ether.

So what's with this emerging trend? Perhaps with all the time at home, we can just kill two turtle doves with one stone and decorate while snacking at the same time. After all, friends and distant relatives won't really be around to judge us, and we'll certainly have enough time at home to finish off whatever decorative eats are on display before they go bad on us.

Though you might be looking at the cookie wreath skeptically, don't be surprised if it suddenly starts looking more attractive as the days go by and the winter nights get longer. Just make sure not to hang it on your front door, because those cookies are going to be rock hard before you know it.
