ALBAWABA - At least five people were killed in gunfire around the Loon-Plage French immigration camp.
A 22-year-old man turned himself in following the shooting of one person at Wormhout, near Dunkirk, and four more in the Loon-Plage camp. At least five individuals were murdered in gunfire at a migrant camp near the northern French city of Dunkirk.
The supposed perpetrator told authorities that he killed a 29-year-old man in the French town of Wormhout before killing four more people at the Loon-Plage refugee camp.
The four victims at the camp were believed to be two security agents and two camp residents.
Local media said that firearms had been found in the suspect's car, and Dunkirk Mayor Patrice Vergriete claimed the motive for the attacks was "unknown."
BBC News has contacted the local authorities for comment. Vergriete called the occurrence a "tragedy" and claimed "an individual coldly murdered several people" in the vicinity.
Xavier Bertrand, the head of the region's parliament, stated on X that five persons were killed in a "tragic event".
French media reported a big emergency services presence near a migrant camp, however, it is unclear whether the shootings occurred within a settlement.
