ALBAWABA - Local Sudanese activists said that a strike by the Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has killed at least 12 people in northern Darfur.

According to the local resistance committee, five people were wounded by the RSF bombardment of the area, as the fighting continued between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces.

RSF forces kidnapped three people following the shelling north of Kutum, according to the committee. Regional governor Mini Minawi stated that the paramilitaries had set fire to around 20 villages in the area.

Since paramilitaries swept across the remainder of the region last year, the army has been mostly limited to El-Fasher, the seat of the North Darfur state.

Since May, RSF forces have besieged the city, which houses around two million people, and starvation has already been declared in the Zamzam camp for the displaced to the south. UN authorities have expressed growing worry about the dismal situation in Darfur and throughout Sudan.

UN chief Antonio Guterres told the Security Council late last month that "people of Sudan are living through a nightmare of violence — with thousands of civilians killed, and countless others facing unspeakable atrocities, including widespread rape and sexual assaults,".
