Season No. 1 (nonconference play) is complete for Lobo basketball.

With a 10-day Christmas break before Season No. 2 (Mountain West play) begins in earnest on Saturday in Fort Collins against the Colorado State Rams, UNM men’s basketball coach Richard Pitino sat down for a lengthy conversation with the Talking Grammer podcast to give a state-of-the- program type update of his 9-3 Lobos squad, which is also 1-0 in Mountain West play thanks to a unusually scheduled Dec. 4 league game against San Jose State.

In Episode 94 of the Talking Grammer podcast, I have a midseason check in with UNM Lobo men's basketball coach Richard Pitino, whose team is 9-3. We cover a lot of ground, from player updates and his thoughts on UNM's new Athletic Director and new football coach to how his son, Jack Pitino, taunts referees and his dad, Rick Pitino, isn't a very good gift giver. Before the interview, I also talk some more about Donovan Dent's huge 40point game vs. VCU. (TG 12.20.24)
