Contemporary philanthropy through cryptocurrency
KQED is thrilled to accept donations of cryptocurrency. We believe in the power of fintech to expand opportunities for generating support from our local communities so that we can continue to provide quality programming and services. We accept donations of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and over 80 additional leading cryptocurrencies.
An Easy Way to Donate Cryptocurrency
Donating crypto is safe, easy, and fast. Using the widget above, making a charitable gift is a quick three-step process:
- Select your preferred crypto and enter your gift amount
- Type in your email and basic info
- Make your gift!
Upon making a donation, you can elect to receive an automatically generated tax receipt that will be sent to the email address you provide. This confirmation of your donation will help you close the loop when calculating your taxes.
Crypto charitable donations are processed quickly and safely with The Giving Block and Gemini Trust Exchange. Cryptocurrency donations are not refundable.
Save on your Taxes by Donating Cryptocurrency
Donating cryptocurrency directly to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit is more tax efficient and can save you money.
The IRS classifies cryptocurrencies as property, so cryptocurrency donations to 501(c)(3) charities receive the same tax treatment as stocks. Donating cryptocurrency is a non-taxable event, which means that you do not owe capital gains tax on the appreciated amount and can deduct it on your taxes. Please contact your tax or financial adviser for more information. Donations are often immediately converted into fiat.
In compliance with California tax code, KQED cannot accept anonymous gifts at or above $5,000. Due to the fact that The Giving Block site allows for any gift to be anonymous at any rate, KQED has made the decision to not accept anonymous donations in order to stay within full tax compliance.
