Empowering our European Youth - Plenary Speech 2022
This EU Year of Youth presents us with a unique opportunity to connect with our younger citizens in shaping a respected and ambitious EU.
I was delighted to partake in the European Youth Event last October to listen and learn from our younger citizens about the issues affecting them.
Within all debates and dialogue of the EYE, mental health was a common theme.

European Year of Youth 2022 Plenary Speech
After a trying two years, it is essential that this coming year we listen, engage and collaborate with our young Europeans.
It is simply not good enough if we transition from this Pandemic and not have young voices at the decision making table.
Member of the European Parliament Maria Walsh shares her Leaving Cert memories and talks why the exams are not the be-all-and-end-all when it comes to finding a dream career.
Maria also discusses the benefits of having a foreign language to a career in politics and why youth activism is now more important than ever.
Watch Maria's interview in conversation with Siobhan Donohoe., as she discusses American politics, their new President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as her own life as an MEP.
She also talks about life as a proud pioneer and a gay woman who is changing mental health policies in our Government. Tune into the full interview here on our new The Kilkenny People YouTube channel.
Day in the Life with Maria Walsh MEP will be in The Kilkenny People on Wednesday, January 27.
