Youssou N'Dour (French pronunciation:[jusu nˈduʁ]; born 1 October 1959) is a Senegalese singer, percussionist, songwriter, composer, occasional actor, businessman and a politician. In 2004, Rolling Stone described him as, "perhaps the most famous singer alive" in Senegal and much of Africa. From April 2012 to October 2012, he was Senegal's Minister of Tourism and Culture, and from October 2012 to September 2013, he was Senegal's Minister of Tourism and Leisure.
N'Dour was born in Dakar to a Wolof mother and a Serer father. At age 12, he began to perform and within a few years was performing regularly with the Star Band, Dakar's most popular group during the early 1970s. Several members of the Star Band joined Orchestra Baobab about that time.
Senegal (i/ˌsɛnᵻˈɡɔːl, -ˈɡɑːl/;French:le Sénégal), officially the Republic of Senegal (French:République du Sénégal[ʁepyblik dy seneɡal]), is a country in West Africa. Senegal's economical and political capital is Dakar. It is the westernmost country in the mainland of the Old World, or Eurafrasia, and owes its name to the Sénégal River, which borders it to the east and north. The name "Senegal" comes from the Wolof "Sunuu Gaal," which means "Our Boat." Senegal covers a land area of almost 197,000 square kilometres (76,000sqmi) and has an estimated population of about 13 million. The climate is Sahelian, but there is a rainy season.
Cultures and influences
The territory of modern Senegal has been inhabited by various ethnic groups since the prehistoric era. Organized kingdoms emerged around the seventh century, and parts of the country were ruled by prominent regional empires such as the Wolof. The present state of Senegal has its roots in European colonialism, which began during the mid-15th century, when various European powers began competing for trade in the area. The establishment of coastal trading posts gradually gave way to control of the mainland, culminating in French rule of the area by the 19th century, albeit amid much local resistance. Senegal peacefully attained independence from France in 1960, and has since been among the more politically stable countries in Africa.
The Senegal's headwaters are the Semefé (Bakoye) and Bafing rivers which both originate in Guinea; they form a small part of the Guinean-Malian border before coming together at Bafoulabé in Mali. From there, the Senegal river flows west and then north through Talari Gorges near Galougo and over the Gouina Falls, then flows more gently past Kayes, where it receives the Kolimbiné. After flowing together with the Karakoro, it prolongs the former's course along the Mali-Mauritanian border for some tens of kilometers till Bakel where it flows together with the Falémé River, which also has its source in Guinea, subsequently runs along a small part of the Guinea-Mali frontier to then trace most of the Senegal-Mali border up to Bakel. The Senegal further flows through semi-arid land in the north of Senegal, forming the border with Mauritania and into the Atlantic. In Kaedi it accepts the Gorgol from Mauritania. Flowing through Bogué it reaches Richard Toll where it is joined by the Ferlo coming from inland Senegal's Lac de Guiers. It passes through Rosso and, approaching its mouth, around the Senegalese island on which the city of Saint-Louis is located, to then turn south. It is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a thin strip of sand called the Langue de Barbarie before it pours into the ocean itself.

Hello, welcome back to the channel. As you explore the captivating city of Dakar Senegal, you will discover a myriad of experiences that will blow your mind and rekindle your love for the African continent. Dakar Senegal is located on the Cape Verde Peninsula, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, dotted with high-rise buildings, commercial centers, and modern residential complexes.
In this video i show you Dakar, the capital city of Senegal like never seen before. I started the tour from one end of the Dakar peninsula called Almades and headed to the other end of the city where the administrative capital is located so you can see how developed Senegal is. Then later we will proceed to the center point of the city to see the most popular residential neighbourhood with highrise complexes that will surprise you.
With a population of over 16 million people, Senegal is a vibrant and welcoming nation that showcases the essence of West African charm. Dakar, the capital city of Senegal, serves as the cultural and economic hub of the country. It showcases a blend of modern infrastructure, bustling markets, and historical landmarks. The iconic African Renaissance Monument stands tall, symbolizing the nation's aspirations for progress and unity. Gorée Island, a short distance from Dakar, is a poignant reminder of the transatlantic slave trade and a place of remembrance and reflection.
As you delve into the heart of Dakar, you will be immersed in its vibrant and colorful culture. The city pulsates with a lively atmosphere fueled by music, dance, and art. Dakar's art scene is impressive, with numerous galleries showcasing the works of both established and emerging artists, offering a glimpse into the creativity and diversity and talent of Senegalese people.
In terms of governance, Dakar plays a pivotal role in the political landscape of Senegal. The city is home to the Presidential Palace, government institutions, and foreign embassies. DAKAR, SENEGAL - Welcome to Darkar, the largest and capital city in Senegal, West Africa! Today Pape and I are taking you on an ultimate Senegalese street food tour in Dakar - we’ll be visiting the local market, eating local dishes for lunch, fresh seafood in the afternoon, and finishing this day off with an ultimate grilled lamb Dibiterie feast. Let’s get started!
Thank you to Pape Tatandiaye (Visit Senegal https://www.instagram.com/papetatandiaye/)
Marché Kermel (https://goo.gl/maps/gtEk5eb6dRnjt8fJ7) - We started this tour today in the heart of central Dakar at one of the old markets known as Marché Kermel. It’s a small and manageable market to get a feeling for the ingredients that go into Senegalese food. At lunchtime just outside the market you’ll find a series of street food stalls that set up serving home cooked Senegalese food. You’ll find dishes like Thieboudienne (jollof rice), okra stew, sweet potato leave, mutton curry, and much more. The food is sensational, so much delicious flavors and huge plates of food. I love the “guana” local chili peppers that taste similar to scotch bonnet chilies.
African Renaissance Monument - We then toured the African Renaissance Monument, one of the icons of Senegal and Africa, to symbolize the rebuilding of Africa after colonization, and to never forget the past slavery trade.
La Maree Chez Adji (https://goo.gl/maps/ryFnWbyFaHmx5kgd9) - Next up on this ultimate street food tour in Senegal we went to the very Western tip of Africa and restaurant called La Maree Chez Adji to eat fresh lobster and sea urchins.
Dibiterie Le Mboté 1 (https://goo.gl/maps/8JGNYQfV5vwZBRoDA) - Finally to finish this day we couldn’t miss a dibiterie, Senegal’s take on grilled lamb. This is something truly spectacular, some of the world’s best grilled lamb. It’s fresh and cooked over a raging fire and served with mustard, hot sauce, and onions. Wow, absolutely stunning!
What a day in Dakar, experiencing incredible Senegalese street food!

Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye told AFP Thursday that France should close its military bases in the West African state as it prepared to mark the 80th anniversary of a notorious colonial slaughter. Faye said that France's President Emmanuel Macron had admitted that his country's troops were responsible for a "massacre" of Senegalese soldiers in 1944.

In 2004, Rolling Stone described him as, "perhaps the most famous singer alive" in Senegal and much of Africa. N'Dour was born in Dakar to a Wolof mother and a Serer father. At age 12, he began to perform and within a few years was performing regularly with the Star Band, Dakar's most popular group during the early 1970s. Several members of the Star Band joined Orchestra Baobab about that time.

Info on the Senegal River
This comes from when in Geography class a group of 3 - Me (Ryan S) Ryan T And Adam-lee where taking a practice test. We were fooling around (as always) and we came to a question.
What does the Senegal river keep Senegal bordered from. They said Guinea but i said No Look at the SENEGAL RIVER in a really weird voice. I am now known for saying Senegal River weirdly
In this series I'm zooming in on countries with Google Earth, and it's time to take a look at Senegal! Google Earth gives information about cities, bordering countries, coordinates, distances, and I can use street view! Thank you, Google Earth, for showing us our beautiful earth!

What could I say? Sitting in my living room Tears streaming down my face Life was such a waste 'til I met You Jesus! I wouldn't go back I wouldn't go back Never again, never again Never again, no I wouldn't go back To that life I used to live I wouldn't go back, I wouldn't go back I'll never go back I'll never go back I'm never going back again
