David Bowie - When I Live My Dream
When I Live My Dream was a song that was very dear to David Bowie’s heart. Recorded after the body of his debut album was made, he and manager Ken Pitt believed that this would be the song that would turn him into a star. Re-recorded with a string arrangement in the summer of 67 for a potential single , When I Live My Dream featured in Bowie’s 1967 Lindsay Kemp-directed mime showcase Pierrot in Turquoise and again, as the closing number in Love You Til Tuesday. Enjoy it here in fully restored HD 1080.

Here is David Bowie in early 1969 singing When I'm Five, a song that he'd begun working on the previous year.
The version used for Kenneth Pitt’s film, Love You Till Tuesday, had been recorded for a BBC session in May 1968. The song is sung from a child's perspective, with all the requisite desperation to grow up and echoes 'There Is A Happy Land' from his debut album.
With references to his parents and 'Grandfather Jones', as well as a dog called 'Bonzo', When I'm Five has all the hallmarks of 60s Bowie, quirky, childlike and never less than interesting and he ensures all of his then-recent training as a mime is to the fore in the film.

A highlight from Kenneth Pitt’s film 'Love You Till Tuesday', here in fully restored HD, we see Bowie singing 'Rubber Band', which had been his debut single on Deram in late 1966.
Miming to the album version of the song, Bowie dons moustache and straw boater to become a love-lorn Edwardian sitting at the bandstand. Look at 46 seconds for an early example of a classic Bowie pose, as he places his hands to his head. A fascinating period piece from 1969, singing a track from 1966, set in 1910.

On 2 February 1969, David Bowie went in to Willesden’s Morgan Studios to cut a new song, ‘Space Oddity’, with colleague John ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson (who sings the ‘ground control’ sections) for ‘Love You Till Tuesday’, a film that was being made by Bowie’s then manager, Kenneth Pitt.
Bowie subsequently demoed further versions of the song in an attempt to secure a record deal, which led ultimately to a contract with Mercury/Philips and the world-famous hit version recorded on 20 June 1969. The February recording finally became part of Decca when Pitt sold the rights to Love You Till Tuesday to PolyGram in 1984.

David Bowie - Space Oddity, Live, 1969
Posted by http://www.nostalgoteket.se "Space Oddity" is a song written and performed by David Bowie and released as a music single in 1969. It is about the launch of Major Tom, a fictional astronaut; its title alludes to the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, released the previous year. The lyrics have also been seen to lampoon the failed British space programme. The song appears on the album David Bowie (also known as Space Oddity). The BBC featured the song in its television coverage of the Apollo 11 launch and lunar landing, which took place in the days following the release of the song.

David Bowie - Space Oddity (Hits A Go Go) (1969) (HD)
Tis indeed a bit of an "oddity" this one... the video that is not the song...
Some very rare and old black & white footage of one of Bowies greatest tracks ever "Space Oddity" from 1969 on the Swiss TV show "Hits A Go Go"...
Yes the video really is that dark in places, dunno if it was just "trendy" or perhaps the Swiss where just like us in the UK back then and suffering from power cuts from all the strikes and 3 days week work to rule at the time or if they simply kept the lights out for as long as they could get away with trying to hide that bloody awful perm Bowie had in this one !!! :-o
Anywhoo here's is one Bowies best of all time with some rather different footage to go with it... enjoy... :-)

And put your helmet on

(7, 6) Commencing (5) countdown
Engines on (4, 3, 2)

And may God's love (Liftoff) be with you
This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirt you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

Lyrics:
Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills
and put your helmet on
Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown,
engines on
Check ignition
and may God's love be with you
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff
This is Ground Control
to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule
if you dare
This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating
in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
Though I'm past
one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much
she knows
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead,
there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you....
Here am I floating
round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

Anywhoo here's is one Bowies best of all time with some rather different footage to go with it... enjoy... :-)
Cleaned Up, Sharpened Up, Redubbed and brought to you by torchlight... ;-)

The official music video for David Bowie - Space Oddity (2019 Mix). Part of the celebration for the song's 50th anniversary.
Originally taken from Bowie's 2nd studio album 'David Bowie' released in 1969 (aka Space Oddity), of which this was the only single.
The video features never before released footage of David Bowie performing Space Oddity at his 50th birthday concert at Madison Square Garden in 1997. It is directed by Tim Pope, and includes footage shot and directed by Eduaord Lock, the founder and choreographer of the Montreal dance troupe La La La Human Steps, for the on screen back drop of Bowie’s 1990 Sound & Vision tour.
The 1990 footage was projected on to the large screens throughout the Sound & Vision tour, featuring David effectively performing Space Oddity with himself, a performance replicated at his 50th Birthday Concert. The audio that accompanies the video is the new 2019 mix of Space Oddity by longtime Bowie producer Tony Visconti.

David Bowie ~ Young Americans 1975 Funky Purrfection Version
The title track of his gold selling LP of 1975 was a departure from Bowie's repertoire, delving into black soul music and the Sound Of Philadelphia. He began recording the tunes in Philadelphia and polished the sound in NYC with help from Luther Vandross and and John Lennon. Bowie described his new sound as "plastic soul" which he defined as "the squashed remains of ethnic music as it survives in the age of Muzak rock, written and sung by a white limey". Bowie had nothing to hide and absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, and he was self effacing to boot, "white limey" indeed. It still makes me giggle. "Young Americans" took two days to record a the famed Sigma Studios (MFSB, Lou Rawls, Three Degrees, etc) with jazz legend David Sanborn providing the distinctive saxophone heard througout the...

"Young Americans" took two days to record a the famed Sigma Studios (MFSB, Lou Rawls, Three Degrees, etc) with jazz legend David Sanborn providing the distinctive saxophone heard througout the song. Apparently, the song is an examination of a newly wed couple learning to be married. Did you know that Bowie wanted Norman Rockwell to design the album cover? When he found out it would take at least six months to complete, he declined and had photographer Eric Stephen Jacobs do the job. He had seen Jacobs work for his choreographer, Toni Basil in After Dark magazine and scheduled time to complete the task. While the LP was loved by his fans and a legion of newcomers, critics were not kind, especially Robert Christgau. The LP was considered an interesting transitional recording and praised Bowie for creating a new sound within the disco parameters. All that being said, "Young Americans" placed 175 out of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time on the NME website. For me, it was a pleasant distraction from the travails of being a teenager in high school trying to find his place in the world. His music still resonates deeply with me, the various changes he went through and helped me to understand that it is all a show, and what really matters is that you are true to yourself. "We can be heroes...." and Bowie is mine, although he probably would have gracious to know that, would never have let it go to his head. But he certainly knew how to get into mine. I miss him terribly. I hope you enjoy this deconstruction of his song, hearing how the different elements combined to make this song so vibrant.

The 1975 U.S. TV advert for David Bowie’s masterpiece, “Young Americans”, featuring gorgeous footage of Bowie, perhaps at his most thin?
•
Chuck Braverman directed the shoot, on the 26th of March 1975.
Like many Bowie fans, I have long been curious about the ad, the shoot and the possible existence of a full Young Americans promo, made from the material.
This month [March 2022] I managed to correspond with the director Chuck Braverman, about the shoot and the video:
Nacho: I specialize in research and restoration and creation of archive music videos. About six years ago I posted on my YouTube channel, a basic restoration I made from the best sources I had, of the 1975 Young Americans TV Ad. In the upload description I wrote:
"...Chuck Braverman is said to have directed the shoot, on March 26th, 1975. Legend has it that the entire song was shot, with the intention of creating a full promo video".
In the comments that followed, and in online Bowie forums, there have been discussions and questions about the shoot and the "missing" Young Americans promo video. So I am tremendously interested to know about the shoot and the video. Did you in fact direct the video?
Chuck: Yes, I did direct the video. It was shot in a small rented studio in Hollywood.
Nacho: What in particular are you memories of Bowie that day?
Chuck: Bowie showed up with two women, one on each arm. One black, the other white. Both tall and stunning. He was friendly and cooperative. That’s about all I remember.
Nacho: Did you see Bowie again?
Chuck: That was the only time I saw Bowie.
Nacho: Was a complete Young Americans promo video created, and if so, why was it never shown? And does the full promo / the material still exist?
Chuck: I don’t remember if there was a plan to make a longer film.
Nacho: To confirm about the rumors of a full length Young Americans promo video - are you saying that you didn't create a full length version, and that to your knowledge one was not created?
Chuck: I don’t remember or know anything about a full length version.
Nacho: Lastly, on the off chance, do you have in your possession the material you shot and edited?
Chuck: Sadly, I do not have any video other than what is online.
Roger Griffins David Bowie The Golden Years book, has the following anecdote about the shoot:
During a practice run, Bowie noticed photographer Ellen Graham taking pictures, so called a halt to the filming and disappeared into the dressing room. He sent a message out stating that she could she could not take photos because his make up wasn’t right and he had clips in his hair. Distraught, she apologized and promised to destroy the photos. She then asked permission to photograph him when he was ready. “I am a fair person”, Bowie told her, “All you needed to do was ask… Yes”.
A couple of Ellen Graham's photos from the shoot can be found on her website: https://www.ellengraham.com/stage

2022 kicks off with Bowie 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.
