Michael Alden Hedges (December 31, 1953 – December 2, 1997) was an American composer, acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter. He is known for having pioneered percussive fingerstyle guitar, the influence of which can now be heard in the compositions and playing of many guitarists.
Michael hedges was born in Sacramento, the son of Dr. Thayne Alden Hedges and Ruth Evelyn Hedges Ipsen. Hedges' life in music began where grew up in Enid, Oklahoma, as he flirted with various instruments before focusing on flute and guitar. He eventually enrolled at Phillips University in Enid to study classical guitar and composition under E. J. Ulrich. Subsequently Hedges studied as a composition major at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland, where he applied his classically trained musical background in combination with various unusual techniques to the steel-string acoustic guitar.
Hedges covered a wide range of musical styles and was considered an extremely dynamic performer in concert. Hedges made ends meet playing and singing in pubs and restaurants in the Baltimore Metro area during his tenure at Peabody. From 1976 to 1977 he played electric guitar and flute for a local jazzy folk rock group called Lotus Band, which he left to start performing solo acoustic. In 1980, he made plans to move to California to study music at Stanford University.
Michael Hedges is a sound engineer from Wellington, New Zealand. He has won two Academy Awards for Best Sound and has been nominated for another two in the same category. He has worked on over 70 films since 1990.
Hedges has won two Academy Awards and has been nominated for another:
You Turn Me On is the fifth album by lo-fi/indie rock band Beat Happening, released in 1992. It is often considered as their strongest and most mature record and was described by All Music Guide as "a masterpiece". In comparison with their earlier work, it showcases more lush and polished sound: for example, the 7th track, "Godsend", described by AMG as "the LP's heart and soul", runs about 9 minutes in length and features Beat Happening's first use of multitrack recording with multilayered vocals. The album was produced by Stuart Moxham from influential Welsh post-punk/indie pop band Young Marble Giants.
All tracks written by Beat Happening
"You Turn Me On" is a 1965 single by Ian Whitcomb and Bluesville. The song is noticeable for Whitcomb's falsetto and "orgasmic vocal hook". Whitcomb recorded this song with his band, Bluesville. As part of the British Invasion, "You Turn Me On" reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S.. In 1966, American actress and singer Mae West covered the song on her album Way Out West. The hit version is edited; the original single was over 3 minutes, had a cold ending and a longer intro where you can clearly hear a mike stand falling over and hitting the wall!
"You Turn Me On (Like a Radio)" is a song written by Bob McDill and Jim Weatherly, and recorded by American country music artist Ed Bruce. It was released in October 1984 as the first single from his album Homecoming. The song reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.
Roberta Joan "Joni" Mitchell, CC (née Anderson; born November 7, 1943) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and painter. Mitchell's work is highly respected by critics, and she has deeply influenced fellow musicians in a diverse range of genres. Rolling Stone has called her "one of the greatest songwriters ever", and AllMusic has stated, "When the dust settles, Joni Mitchell may stand as the most important and influential female recording artist of the late 20th century". Her lyrics are noted for their developed poetics, addressing social and environmental ideals alongside personal feelings of romantic longing, confusion, disillusion, and joy.
Mitchell began singing in small nightclubs in Saskatchewan and Western Canada and then busking in the streets and dives of Toronto. In 1965, she moved to the United States and began touring. Some of her original songs ("Urge for Going", "Chelsea Morning", "Both Sides, Now", "The Circle Game") were covered by folk singers, allowing her to sign with Reprise Records and record her debut album in 1968. Settling in Southern California, Mitchell, with popular songs like "Big Yellow Taxi" and "Woodstock", helped define an era and a generation. Her 1971 recording Blue was rated the 30th best album ever made in Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Mitchell switched labels and began moving toward jazz rhythms by way of lush pop textures on 1974's Court and Spark, her best-selling LP, featuring the radio hits "Help Me" and "Free Man in Paris".
Song to a Seagull (also known as Joni Mitchell) is Joni Mitchell's debut album. Produced by David Crosby, the album was recorded in 1967 at Sunset Sound, and released in 1968 by Reprise Records.
The album was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California during the later part of 1967.David Crosby was assigned as producer as part of the deal with Reprise Records. Crosby wanted Mitchell to sound pure and natural, so he asked her to sing into the studio grand piano, and set up extra microphones to capture her voice repeating off the strings; unfortunately the set up captured too much ambient noise, resulting in excessive tape hiss, which could only be removed post-production at the cost of the high sounds in the audio range, which gives the album a flat feel.
Mitchell had written songs that were hits for other artists (e.g., "Both Sides Now" and "Chelsea Morning" by Judy Collins and Dave Van Ronk, "Eastern Rain" by Fairport Convention, "Urge for Going" and "The Circle Game" by Tom Rush), but none of those songs were recorded for her debut.

Complete Full Concert, Full Show. This is the last video we have of the brilliant man that was Michael Hedges. This was filmed two weeks before he died. The story behind the video, blessings to the person who filmed this, was he called all the venues on Michael's tour looking for one that would allow a video camera. He found one, at the beginning of the tour, in Somerville, Massachusetts. And we have this. This performance has everything that would show off how brilliant he was, I don't really want to spoil it by mentioning examples (grabbing his collar while he sings 'You were perverted too' during Gently Weeps would be a classic case). This performance has been uploaded already as individual songs by another kind soul that has an entire channel dedicated to Michael Hedges, but he used au...

Last chance lost--
In the tyranny of a long good-bye
Last chance lost--
We talk of us with deadly earnest eyes
Last chance lost--
We talk of love in terms of sacrifice and compromise
Last chance--
Last chance lost
Last chance lost--
The hero cannot make the change
Last chance lost--
The shrew will not be tamed
Last chance lost--
They bicker on the rifle range
Blame takes aim
Last chance--
