James Vernon Taylor (born March 12, 1948) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. A five-time Grammy Award winner, Taylor was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. He is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
Taylor achieved his breakthrough in 1970 with the No. 3 single "Fire and Rain" and had his first No. 1 hit the following year with "You've Got a Friend", a recording of Carole King's classic song. His 1976 Greatest Hits album was certified Diamond and has sold 12 million US copies. Following his 1977 album, JT, he has retained a large audience over the decades. Every album he released from 1977 to 2006 sold over a million copies. His chart performance had a resurgence during the late 1990s and 2000s, when he recorded some of his most-awarded work (including Hourglass, October Road and Covers). He achieved his first number one album in the US in 2015 with his recording Before This World.
James Taylor (born 1948) is an American singer/songwriter and guitarist.
James Taylor may also refer to:
James Taylor (1820 – 19 October 1895) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Council and the Queensland Legislative Assembly.
Taylor was born in London, England in 1820 to John William Taylor, merchant, and his wife Ann (née Fielder).
He probably arrived in Sydney on board the James Pattison and spent the next few years gaining pastoral experience before heading to the Darling Downs with sheep in 1848. He found work in Cecil Plains, becoming Henry Stuart Russell's head stockman before becoming a partner1856 and sole owner in 1859.
Using the property as a fattening and disposal centre for western sheep, he began to prosper and by 1880 the 147,310 acre freehold property held almost 100,000 sheep and was supplemented by Dunmore, Goodar and Coomrith stations on the Western Downs and Mount Marlow on the Barcoo River.
Taylor was elected to the first Queensland Parliament in 1860, winning the seat of Western Downs. Appointed Secretary for Public Lands in 1869, he administered his office with little regards for the good of the public. He withheld large areas of Cecil Plains from selection until 1870 when he suddenly sold them to himself. These actions were one of the reasons for his resignation as Secretary in May 1870, and in September of that same year he resigned as member for Western Downs to stand for the seat of Drayton and Toowoomba but was unsuccessful.
James Taylor (1813–1892) was a Scottish minister and historical author.
Taylor was born in Greenlaw, Berwickshire, on 18 March 1813. After the parish school he went to the University of Edinburgh, and then to the theological hall of the United Secession Church with a view to the ministry. On 29 May 1839 he was ordained minister of the Church in St. Andrews. He graduated M.A. at Edinburgh University on 20 April 1843.
On 26 February 1846 Taylor was translated to Regent Place Church, Glasgow, and on 11 July 1848, with most of the congregation, he left for the new church erected in Renfield Street. Resigning his charge in 1872, he was appointed secretary to the new Education Board for Scotland; it was closed down in 1885. By then Scotland had popularly elected educational authorities, an outcome for which Taylor had advocated in synod, in public meetings, and in the lobby of the House of Commons. Benjamin Disraeli alluded to Taylor's persistence in his novel Lothair.
James Taylor (February 1761 – January 27, 1834) was a farmer, merchant and political figure in New Brunswick. He represented Sunbury County in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1809 to 1816 and in 1820.
He was born in Truro, Nova Scotia, the son of Matthew Taylor, a native of County Londonderry in Ireland, and Elizabeth Archibald. He settled in the Saint John River valley during the 1780s, where he became a lumber merchant, operated a farm and raised livestock. Taylor married Margaret Bartlett. After being elected in 1809, he was defeated by Elijah Miles in 1816. His election in 1819 was overturned in March 1820 after an appeal; he was defeated in the general election later in 1820. He died at Maugerville in 1834.
Major James Alexander Simson Taylor TD (19 June 1917 – 16 May 1993) was an English born Scottish cricketer, umpire, rugby union player and international rugby union referee.
Taylor was born at Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, but was educated at Oakham School in Rutland and Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys. He later undertook studies at the University of Cambridge and Carnegie College, Leeds.
A right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace, he made his first-class cricket debut for Leicestershire against Lancashire in 1937 County Championship. He made two further first-class appearances for the county in that season, against Glamorgan and Warwickshire. He scored 49 runs at an average of 12.25, with a high score of 22 in his three matches. While playing for Leicestershire he also took what would be his only first-class wicket, that of Emrys Davies.
Taylor served during World War II, entering service with the Northamptonshire Regiment as a 2nd Lieutenant in October 1940.

CD/DVD liner note from James – One Man Band (2007): “It’s a strange reality of the modern popular song that the first time it’s played is when it’s recorded. Sometimes a song will be finished for deadline in the studio the day the thing is cast in stone forever. I know that songs and arrangements evolve and develop over time; that somewhere around the twentieth time it’s played for a live audience, a song finally completes itself. That, among other things, is what makes a good live recording unique. I’ve often thought that live performance means being well prepared and then waiting for the inevitable, unexpected thing to happen. We come onstage, well rehearsed and in good shape, and repeat what we have done before as best we can. But the real goal is to be in the present moment and on the...

VENUSIAN DIAMOND
by Carole King, Rick Evers & Navarro
On the thirty-first day of
the summer moon
In the marketplace
Soembody touched my hand and said
I was a woman of taste
Then with a flutter of wings
AAmid the clutter of things
I saw the Venusian Diamond
through a see of grace
I said "Lay all of your money down
And I will be your own
Do it if you can
If you don't, you better
leave it alone"
Then there appeared a serpent hanging
Like a thunder rope
He said, "Pull me" -I did
And fell into the wrong end of a telescope
SO I began to run
I knew not to where I'd come
I could hear the Venusian Diamond
and it gave me hope
It said, "Shatter all your images
And I will be your own
Do it if you can
If you don't, you better
leave it alone"
Selves
Selfish
Selfless
Self
