The Yellow River or Huáng Hé is the third-longest river in Asia, following the Yangtze River and Yenisei River, and the sixth-longest in the world at the estimated length of 5,464km (3,395mi). Originating in the Bayan Har Mountains in Qinghai province of western China, it flows through nine provinces, and it empties into the Bohai Sea near the city of Dongying in Shandong province. The Yellow River basin has an east–west extent of about 1,900 kilometers (1,180mi) and a north–south extent of about 1,100km (680mi). Its total basin area is about 742,443 square kilometers (286,659sqmi).
The Yellow River is called "the cradle of Chinese civilization", because its basin was the birthplace of ancient Chinese civilization, and it was the most prosperous region in early Chinese history. However, because of frequent devastating floods and course changes produced by the continual elevation of the river bed (due in part to manmade erosion upstream), sometimes above the level of its surrounding farm fields, it also has the names China's Sorrow and Scourge of the Sons of Han.
Much of the river's course is very scenic, coursing between vegetated limestone cliffs. The watershed is located in northeastern Iowa’s unglaciated Driftless Area. The catchment measures 154,666 acres (625.91km2) and is mainly state forest or farmland. Much of the region is quite rugged, and little urban development has encroached upon it.
Its beauty, lack of development, recreational potential and interesting wildlife habitats make it a candidate for development as a park. The state has developed Yellow River State Forest over time (the lavender parts of the map here). Effigy Mounds National Monument has also grown, either by direct purchase or from gifts.
The Yellow River in north central Wisconsin is a tributary of the Chippewa River. For the most part it is a mud and rock-bottomed river flowing through forest and farmland. It is one of four distinct rivers in the state bearing the name Yellow River.
Geography
This Yellow River begins at Matt Ochs Lake and Perch Lake in the township of Molitor near Perkinstown in the Chequamegon National Forest. This area of small lakes and swamps is the terminal moraine left by the last glacier, which reached this far about 18,000 years ago. The river runs a short way before it forms Chequamegon Waters Flowage, locally known as Miller Dam. Below Miller Dam, there is one more dam, at Cadott, forming another small reservoir, before the river joins the Chippewa River when it flows into Lake Wissota at Moon Bay.
Much of the Yellow is undeveloped - in particular the upper stretches through the Chequamegon Forest. In very few places will you see any sign of man. The only settlements along the river are Gilman and Cadott.
"Yellow River" is a popular song recorded by the British band Christie. Written by band leader Jeff Christie, the song was offered to The Tremeloes, who recorded it with the intention of releasing it as a single early in 1970. However, after the success of their then most recent single, "Call Me Number One", and after considering it too pop-orientated for their future direction, they decided to follow it up with another of their own compositions, "By The Way", which was only a minor Top 40 success.
Producer Mike Smith therefore took their vocals off the recording and added those of Jeff Christie. Released on 23 April 1970, it became an international hit, reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart for one week in June 1970. In the US, it reached number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
The actual location of Yellow River in this song is not specified, although the author, Jeff Christie, is on record as saying that it was inspired by the idea of a soldier going home at the end of the American Civil War. As the song was released during the Viet Nam War, it has been interpreted as being about a soldier leaving the US Military at the end of his period of conscription.
The Yellow River is a 62.3-mile-long (100.3km)tributary of the Kankakee River in northern Indiana in the United States. Via the Kankakee and Illinois rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River, draining an area of 427 square miles (1,110km2). The river's name possibly derives from a translation of the Shawnee name for the river, We-thau-ka-mik, meaning "yellow waters", a description perhaps owing to the presence of sand in the riverbed.
Course
Significant portions of the Yellow River's course have been straightened and channelized; the river's present-day course is considered to begin at a confluence of agricultural ditches in southeastern St. Joseph County, approximately 4 miles (6km) north of the town of Bremen. The river initially flows southwardly into Marshall County, past Bremen; then generally southwestwardly, returning to its naturally winding riverbed and flowing through the city of Plymouth; and westwardly in a substantially straightened course through Starke County, past the city of Knox. It flows into the Kankakee River in southwestern Starke County, approximately 10 miles (16km) west of Knox near the town of English Lake.
Yellow River Park is a highly vegetated area located off Juhan Road in the city of Stone Mountain, Georgia - just southeast of the granite dome of Stone Mountain. The 566-acre (229ha) park includes a 12-mile (19km) trail that can be used for walking, hiking, and horse riding. The park has pavilions, grills, and a large playground, as well as a wooden overlook that provides a view of the Yellow River. Some people walk down to the river using an unmarked trail to wade in the river, or tube down the river to Norris Lake, although this is not encouraged by Gwinnett County or Yellow River Regional Park.

Since its premiere in 1969, the Concerto has become popular in China and amongst overseas Chinese. It is noted for a difficult solo part. The German musicologist Carl Dahlhause once wrote that “[t]he heyday of virtuosity began with Paganini’s tours of the European capitals in the early 1830s and ended in September 1847 when Liszt abandoned his career as a pianist.” Thus, it is not surprising for Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu to remark after listening to the concerto: “How could a nation as great as China come up with a composition as such!” The concerto, being a collective composition characteristic of China, was even recorded by the Philadelphia Orchestra. The Yellow River Piano Concerto stands out for its historical, political, and economical significance in 20th-century Chinese music history.
The composer, Xian Xinghai, wrote the Yellow River Cantata in Yan’an in 1939 during the Anti-Japanese War; it was reputedly written in just six days in a cave. r. It is an eight-movement piece in which he used traditional folk-melodies and evoked the image of the Yellow River as a symbol of Chinese defiance against the Japanese invaders. During his stay in Russia, he edited and re-orchestrated the work, which was later modified by Li Huanzhi, Qu Wei and Yan Liangkun. This edition aimed at furthering the energy and momentum of the music, and in this light, the rearrangement of the Yellow River Piano Concerto thirty years later is a continuation of that same practice. The concerto is made up of four movements.
I. Prelude: The song of the Yellow River Boatmen
II. Ode To the Yellow River
III. The Yellow River In Anger
IV. Defend the Yellow River

Today, this raging river is responsible for half of China's wheat production. Great clip from BBC documentary series Wild China.

"Yellow River" is a song recorded by the British band Christie. It was released in 1970 and became a No. 1 hit song for the band in the UK.
The actual location of Yellow River in this song is not specified, although the author, Jeff Christie, is on record as saying that it was inspired by the idea of a soldier going home at the end of the American Civil War. As the song was released during the Vietnam War, it has been interpreted as being about a soldier leaving the U.S. Military at the end of his period of conscription.

~Synopsis~
The Yellow River Piano Concerto is a piano concerto arranged by a collaboration of musicians including Yin Chengzong, Zhuang Liu and Chu Wanghua, etc. from Central Philharmonic Society ( now China National Symphony Orchestra), based on the Yellow River Cantata by composer Xian Xinghai.

So long, boy you can take my place Got my papers, I've got my pay So pack my bags and I'll be on my way To Yellow River Put my gun down, the war is won Fill my glass, now the time has come I'm going back to the place that I love At Yellow River Yellow River, Yellow River Is in my mind and in my eyes Yellow River, Yellow River Is in my blood, it's the place I love Got no time for explanations, got no time to lose Tomorrow night you'll find me sleeping underneath the moon At Yellow River Cannon fire lingers in my mind I'm so glad that I'm still alive And I've been gone for such a long time At Yellow River I remember the nights were cool I still can see the water pool And I remember the girl that I knew At Yellow River Yellow River, Yellow River Is in my mind and in my eyes Yellow River, Yellow River Is in my blood, it's the place I love Got no time for explanations, got no time to lose Tomorrow night you'll find me sleeping underneath the moon At Yellow River Yellow River, Yellow River Is in my mind and in my eyes Yellow River, Yellow River
