It's been a wild several days in Turkmenistan. In my opinion, this is (by a long shot) the world's most bizarre country.
In this video, I explain the 10 strangest things that I find about Turkmen culture -- from the thousands of white-marble buildings to the shockingly empty streets, a massive fire crater in the desert that hasn't stopped burning for 50 years, and the heavy censorship of the internet.
Turkmenistan is essentially the "North Korea of Central Asia." Both the capital cities of Pyongyang and Ashgabat feel eerily similar when walking around. The only major difference is that the people of North Korea are oppressed, whereas the people of Turkmenistan seem to...

TURKMENISTAN You Were Never Supposed To See 🇹🇲 (intense)
Turkmenistan is one of the most secretive countries in the World, and very few people travel there. It is known to be one of the strictest and most tightly controlled countries on Earth. But we found a way to travel to Turkmenistan ourselves, and get off-the-beaten-path. We arranged an almost self-guided tour (which is pretty rare) giving us the chance to travel all the way across this fascinating & intense country, by whatever means we could, and to try and speak with locals living in all corners of Turkmenistan, in order to get to know this former Soviet country better. In this video we travel from Ashgabat, to "The Gates of Hell", then take a train to Mary, where we explore the ancient city of Merv, before finally heading north and attempting to cross the strange land border with Uzbeki...

Dijuluki Korea Utaranya Asia Tengah! Inilah Turkmenistan
Pernah mendengar nama negara republic of wadiya?
Inilah videonya.

After traveling to both nations over the past few years, I find them to be shockingly similar in several ways.
In this video, I take you deeper inside both hermit kingdoms to discover how they relate to one another.

Turkmenistan is a country located in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the east and northeast,
Afghanistan to the southeast, Iran to the south, and the Caspian Sea to the west. Its capital and largest city is Ashgabat.
Turkmenistan has a population of approximately 6 million people and is known for its natural gas reserves, which are among the largest in the world. The country has a largely arid and desert-like climate, with very hot summers and cold winters.
Turkmenistan was formerly part of the Soviet Union and gained independence in 1991. Since then, the country has been led by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, who has been in power since 2007. The country has been criticized for its lack of political freedom and human rights abuses.
Despite its wealth of natural resources, Turkmenistan's economy is heavily reliant on exports of natural gas, and the government maintains strict control over most aspects of the economy. The country is also known for its ornate and grandiose public buildings, many of which were constructed under the current president's rule.
It's difficult to make a direct comparison between the strictness of Turkmenistan and North Korea as they are different countries with different political systems and social norms. However, both countries have been criticized for their lack of political freedoms and human rights abuses.
In Turkmenistan, the government exercises tight control over most aspects of society, including the media, political opposition, and civil society. Freedom of speech, assembly, and religion are severely restricted, and the government has been known to imprison and torture political dissidents and journalists.
Similarly, North Korea is known for its authoritarian regime, which exercises strict control over all aspects of society. The government heavily restricts access to information, and political opposition is not tolerated. The country is also known for its severe human rights abuses, including forced labor and public executions.
Overall, both Turkmenistan and North Korea are considered to be among the most repressive and closed societies in the world, and both countries have been criticized for their lack of political freedoms and human rights abuses.
Turkmenistan is known for having some unusual and strict laws, many of which reflect the country's authoritarian political system and conservative social norms. Here are a few examples:
The government has banned certain breeds of dogs, including pit bulls, Doberman pinschers, and Great Danes, as well as cats with short tails or ears.
The country has strict rules on public behavior, including a ban on smoking in public, drinking alcohol outside of designated areas, and chewing gum in public.
The government has also banned certain types of music, including rap and heavy metal, as well as certain hairstyles and clothing styles that are seen as too Western.
Turkmenistan has also imposed strict controls on the internet, including blocking access to many social media sites and requiring all internet service providers to operate through a state-controlled network.
The government requires all men to serve two years of military service, and failure to do so can result in imprisonment.
Women are required to dress modestly in public, and the government has banned makeup in many public places.
Overall, Turkmenistan's legal system is highly centralized and authoritarian, with strict controls on public behavior and limited freedoms for its citizens.

I'm Jason, a full-time British Traveller.
I have filmed a travel series in many of the world's best (and least) known destinations. I started my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China, followed by a solo trip to Eastern Europe after graduating from university.
After that European trip I explored much of Asia: visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan.
I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey,
Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine.
In 2022, I took my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa, visiting Kenya and Tanzania, before heading to the Middle East, stopping in Dubai and Lebanon. Europe followed, covering both the Greek and Turkish sides of Cyprus, and afterwards going back to Italy for the second time to cover Milan and Sicily. I then visited the Caribbean for the first time, covering the Dominican Republic, before heading to both Brussels and Amsterdam, then covering Taiwan and the Philippines in Asia. I finished off the year with a trip around Morocco.
In 2023 I finally visited Paris, before heading over to Qatar for a few days. I went onwards to India, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Mongolia, Thailand and Sumatra (Indonesia). I began 2024 by revisiting Bangladesh, India and Turkey.

Tashkent is the capital city of Uzbekistan. One of the major destinations of Uzbekistan, Tashkent is the country's new-age capital and also a part of the famous Silk Route. The metropolis is identified for its remarkable highrises beautifully interspersed with historical monuments. Some of the prominent examples of Islamic architecture can be found in this city. It’s known for its many museums and its mix of modern and Soviet-era architecture. The Amir Timur Museum houses manuscripts, weapons and other relics from the Timurid dynasty. Nearby, the huge State Museum of History of Uzbekistan has centuries-old Buddhist artifacts. The city’s skyline is distinguished by Tashkent Tower, which offers city views from its observation deck. Places to visit : Minor Mosque, Hazrati Imam complex, Amir Temur Square, Chorsu Bazaar, Mustaqillik Maydoni, Tashkent Chimes, Holy Assumption Cathedral Church, Tashkent Tower, Magic City Park, and many more...
