The 43rd World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), also known as Aussiecon Two, was held 22–26 August 1985 at the Southern Cross, Victoria, and Sheraton Hotels in Melbourne, Australia. The convention was chaired by David Grigg. Total attendance was reported as 1,599 members.
Worldcon, or more formally the World Science Fiction Convention, the annual convention of the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS), is a science fiction convention. It has been held each year since 1939 (except for the years 1942 to 1945, during World War II). The members of each Worldcon are the members of WSFS, and vote both to select the site of the Worldcon two years later, and to select the winners of the annual Hugo Awards, which are presented at each convention.
Activities
Activities and events at the convention typically include (but are not limited to):
Activities to support fan and external charities (fan funds auctions, blood drives, etc.)
Art show presenting paintings, drawings, sculpture and other work, primarily on science fiction and fantasy themes
Autographing sessions, literary beer or coffee-with meet-ups, "Walks with the Stars", and other chances to meet favorite science fiction and fantasy professionals.
Science fiction conventions are gatherings of fans of various forms of speculative fiction including science fiction and fantasy. Historically, science fiction conventions had focused primarily on literature, but the purview of many extends to such other avenues of expression as movies and television, comics, animation, and games.

On this day in 1957, ITN's Lynne Reid Banks spoke to various creatures at the 15th World Science Fiction Convention, or Worldcon. Held in London, that year's meet was dubbed "Loncon". It was the first Worldcon to bring the global sci-fi community together outside the US.
Did you know that Worldcon continues to this day? Worldcon 2022 – the 80th World Science Fiction Convention – was held in Chicago.

Join me as I explore the SciFi World convention in Malmö, Sweden...and as I explore the question: what exactly is science fiction?
This is a look at the cosplay and merchandise and all the geek exhibits you can find at the SciFi World convention, but also a dive into the history of people who have tried to define what science fiction is. The attempts date back to 1926, and continue up to modern times.
I also interview several cosplayers and ask them for their opinions:

- Max as Dr Robotnik (@cheeseboy_cosplay98)
- Linda as Athiraa the Mermaid (@mermaid_athiraa)
Along the way I show lots and lots of cosplayers and other kinds of wonderful geeks. The convention may be called SciFi World, but that didn't stop cosplayers coming as fantasy characters, comic book characters, and everything in between. It's not just Star Wars - even though there are of course tons of characters from that franchise in particular.
And don't forget to check out the cosplay parade towards the end!

Little green men coming out of paint cans, Phosphate mines and Slaked Lime, 1966, he was sixteen, it's Central Florida in the era of the dragline, play it over the pit and dig up more of that green shit, and trade it with the Russians, who are traditionally hated, you can imagine that after a few years that you'd run out of things to say, and I'll be here every day. Phospho~Gypsum, Radon-222, the daughters watch over you, on a transformer four stories high it walks like a cripple and turns on its base, diggin' up that Dicalcium Phosphate. Travel the blacktop and you won't have far to go to find an alien civilization, a creature from a creation that's from outer space. Sixty foot high for miles around; one million tons of Phospho~Gypsum tailings rise to the sky. Nearly half the world's fertilizer once lay beneath the overburden; it got taken off this sandbar, and now there's something that's left behind. Hey, this place is a mess! 'what are you takin' about? I'll clean it up later. No, that's not the way it is at all, I'm not a miner I don't care, man, that's pant of the system, I'm punk, but who's gonna indict the Wall Street Journal, just me and Bob Ray, it's just part of the system here on the surface of the planet and the day has come when there's only work left There's unlimited sunshine in a bottle of Tropicana, with his friends and his 'Spooky Tooth' 8-track flipped upside down, drivin' in his Mercury Monterey down to Lithia Springs, saying that if we could take the tailings, and build a building for the New York Stork Exchange, then we could tell everyone about how we live in a state that digs Radon by the ton and you'll be loved by everyone, and the government will give us a Superfund,
