The station opened on May 31, 1900, as the northern terminus of the Northwestern Elevated Railroad. It was converted to a two level station in 1907, with a loop track to aid turning trains. Wilson became a through station in 1908 when the Northwestern Elevated Railroad was extended to Central Street in Evanston (using tracks belonging to the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway). The current station building was built in 1923, shortly after the tracks to the north were elevated. Over the years the station has been extensively reconfigured: the lower level was closed on August 1, 1949; the platforms were reconfigured in 1960; and the North Shore Line—which also used the station—ceased operation in 1963, enabling the station layout to be simplified. The CTA's 2004–2008 Capital Improvement Plan includes plans to reconstruct the station starting in 2008.
Wilson ASA is a shortsea liner shipping company that operates about 100 vessels, of which 64 are owned. The ships are bulk carriers in the range of 1,500long tons deadweight (DWT) to 10,000DWT. The company is controlled by Kristian Eidesvik who owns about 80% of the company. Headquarters are located in Bergen, Norway.
History
Wilson was founded in 1993 after the merger of Paal Wilson & Co (founded 1942) and Jebsens (founded 1929) with the operating company Jebsen Wilson Euro Carriers, as one of the largest short sea shipping companies in the world. The new company was a joint venture still owned by the two mother companies. At the time of the merger Paal Wilson & Co was owned 67% by IPG Shipping while the rest was owned by the Wilson family after Paal Wilson died in 1985. Kristian Eidesvik bought part of the company in 1995, but after internal struggle in Paal Wilson & Co sold their ownership in Euro Carriers to Jebsens, instead gaining control over Actinor Shipping. But the next year Actinor bought 70% of Jebsens, and by 2001 the entire company was owned by In Ship, owned by Eidesvik. Wilson ASA was listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange in 2005.
In astronomy, CTA 102, also known by its B1950 coordinates as 2230+114 (QSR B2230+114) and its J2000 coordinates as J2232+1143 (QSO J2232+1143), is a quasar discovered in the early 1960s by a radio survey carried out by the California Institute of Technology. It has been observed by a large range of instruments since its discovery, including WMAP, EGRET, GALEX, VSOP and Parkes, and has been regularly imaged by the Very Long Baseline Array since 1995. It has also been detected in gamma rays, and a gamma-ray flare has been detected from it.
In 1963 Nikolai Kardashev proposed that the then-unidentified radio source could be evidence of a Type II or III extraterrestrial civilization on the Kardashev scale. Follow-up observations were announced in 1965 by Gennady Sholomitskii, who found that the object's radio emission was varying; a public announcement of these results caused a worldwide sensation. The idea that the emission was caused by a civilization was rejected when the radio source was later identified as one of the many varieties of a quasar.
Two new train stations, one in the city and one in the southwest suburbs, are now open to commuters.

Chicago CTA Wilson Station Construction
The Wilson Station on the CTA Red Line is undergoing a massive construction project. I shot several scenes before construction began to show historic track viaducts that have since been torn down. I also took timelapse shots of the corridor between Lawrence and Granville Stations showing the Red Line local trains and the Purple Line Express trains. The Purple Line tracks are deteriorating, causing the express trains to run at 15-20mph for much of the way. These tracks will be replaced soon to bring the running speed back to 55mpg.
