The film also features the voice talents of Emmy winning pop-culture icon Mark Hamill (Star Wars franchise, The Boy and the Heron), Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows, The SpongeBob Movie franchise) and Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible films, Pulp Fiction).
A powerful story about the discovery of self, a thrilling examination of the bridge between technology and nature and a moving exploration of what it means to be alive and connected to all living things, The Wild Robot is written and directed by three-time Oscar® nominee Chris Sanders—the writer-director of DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon, The Croods, and Disney’s Lilo & Stitch—and is produced by Jeff Hermann (DreamWorks Animation’s The Boss Baby 2: Family Business; co-producer, Kung Fu Panda franchise).
Peter Brown’s The Wild Robot, an illustrated middle-grade novel first published in 2016, became a phenomenon, rocketing to #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. The book has since inspired a trilogy that now includes The Wild Robot Escapes and The Wild Robot Protects. Brown’s work on the Wild Robot series and his other bestselling books have earned him a Caldecott Honor, a Horn Book Award, two E.B. White Awards, two E.B. When Leta Evans (Melissa De Sousa), who has dreamed for years of being a music video director, becomes an assistant to a famous director, she wants to make a good impression. Her first job will be transporting the cast of a video from New York to Miami. However, due to a tight budget, they will have to travel by bus. Ride | Corner Store Shenanigans (1998)
SN: Snacks, a talent show 🔥 and a fight 😭 let me just say that I find it real funny how Charity was sooo ready to leave because of the boys behavior towards her BUT then turns around and condones it by kissing Brotha knowing damn well he's with someone. It's his relationship and responsibility to be faithful but she did it to herself by making her moment about Brotha 🙄 (I liked hers the least & she basically took a shot at Tuesday with the "can't make me cry" which was lame asf, real women cry too) and for her to do that she wasn't bothered at all 💯 she actually liked all the attention lmao and it didn't matter if it was coming from a single or taken boy.

Peaches and Byrd pull up on Geronimo and of course he gets in the car. It all goes downhill from there because there's no telling what those two are up to but the same could be said for Geronimo.

The strict Poppa (Malik Yoba) watches out for the crew, but there is still ample opportunity for trouble -- which could end Leta's directing career before it begins.

The film received seven awards and eight nominations worldwide. In August 2021, The Criterion Collection announced a re-release of the film, in a 2K remaster together with interviews, deleted scenes, audio commentary and an essay by novelist Viet Thanh Nguyen.
Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film four out of four stars, calling it "a film that reaches out gently to the audience", comparing it favorably to James Joyce's story "The Dead". He concluded that Kore-eda, with this and his previous film Maborosi, "has earned the right to be considered with Kurosawa, Bergman and other great humanists of the cinema".
Plot summary with spoilers:
In this story, a mid-20th-century social-service-style lodge serves as a transition point between life and death. Every Monday, recently deceased people arrive and are asked by social workers (counsellors) to select a single memory from their life to take with them into eternity, forgetting all other experiences. The selected memory is recreated on film, and once they watch it, the souls vanish, destined to live in their happiest moment forever.
Twenty-two diverse souls arrive at the lodge, including an old woman cherishing cherry blossoms, a pilot reliving his flights, and a teenager initially choosing a Disneyland ride but later recalling the comfort of cuddling with her mother. Each soul reflects on their life differently, ranging from a prostitute remembering a kind client to an elderly man obsessed with sex, who ultimately picks a sentimental moment with his daughter.
The story also follows two young counsellors, Takashi and Shiori. Takashi helps an elderly man, Watanabe, who struggles to recall a meaningful memory from his unfulfilling marriage. Through reviewing videotapes of his life, Takashi discovers that Watanabe’s wife, Kyoko, was once his own fiancée, and the two men share a deep, unspoken connection. Eventually, Watanabe chooses a memory involving his wife, and he reconciles his past.
Takashi, initially unable to choose his own memory, learns from Watanabe’s tapes that his fiancée cherished a moment with him. Realizing he had been part of someone else's happiness, Takashi finally selects this realization as his own eternal memory and leaves the way station.
As the week concludes, the remaining counsellors prepare for the next group of souls, and Shiori becomes a full-fledged counsellor. The wild-haired young man who refused to pick a memory is now set to join the staff.
