BEAUTIFUL ❤️ Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia 🇲🇾
We have the best day ever exploring the incredible UNESCO heritage listed Georgetown in Penang, Malaysia, that we love so much.
First we organised local bus passes for our stay and after a quick history lesson, it is off to find a couple of trishaws and explore this truly beautiful city the fun way.
We see a heap of cats. Visit heaps of cool street art in and around Armenian Street. Eat at "Penang Famous Laksa" and the New Lane market where we try some delicious hawker street food.
Hearing the Muslim call to prayer is very moving and beautiful. We visit Chinese temples, a really cool alleyway filled with antiques, cool kids and other cool stuff.
We visit old British colonial fire station where time has stood still for 117 years and enjoy a trishaw ride through Penang's Little India.

Ying and I arrived to Penang from Langkawi, and we stayed in Penang for about a week, doing some work, and eating out way through the city. One day though, we decided to put on our shoes and go to visit as many of the attractions in the center of the city as we could. So this travel videos is an overview of the top things to do in Georgetown, Penang, but also a travel guide as well. Hope you enjoy to!
To begin the day, I started off with a Penang tourist map and located all the places we wanted to go. Since we were staying close to the Georgetown World Heritage Inc., that’s where we first decided to stop. It’s more of an information center, so after just a few minutes we continued on our way to the Chew Jetty, one of the couple of Chinese docks where homes are built over the water. On the way though, we walked through Lebuh Armenian (one of the most famous streets in Penang), past George Town street art, and also briefly stopped at Cheah Kongsi. The Chew Jetty was a nice place to walk around for a few minutes, there wasn’t a lot to do there, but mostly some small souvenir shops and some nice places to take photos.
We continued walking and passed the Queen Victory Lighthouse and then we continued on to Fort Cornwallis, a British built fort, and the only fort in Malaysia - though as they said it wasn’t ever used for battle. I was a little disappointed visiting Fort Cornwallis in Penang because we paid a pretty big entrance fee, but there really wasn’t anything to see inside - I could have seen it all from the outside. Anyway, we continued on walking around Penang, and then circled back past a cathedral. By this time we were getting quite hungry, so we headed into Little India, and then continued to a famous restaurant called Kapitan for tandoori chicken. I didn’t know they were really famous for their rice biryani, but I got a couple pieces of tandoori chicken and naan, it they were both incredible.
In the afternoon, we first stopped at the Goddess of Mercy Temple in Penang, and walked around for a few minutes, and then continued on to Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, one of Penang’s main attractions and a place I was really looking forward to visiting. Mr. Cheong, an insanely wealthy Chinese business man built the Blue Mansion and it has now been restored and it’s actually open as a hotel, but they also give a couple of guided tours each day. The tour took 45 minutes, and it was beautiful to see. The only thing I wish is that we could have seen a little more of the Blue Mansion, because unfortunately we didn’t get to see much, but mostly listened to the history of the mansion - still it was worth seeing in Penang.
To finish of one day of things to do in Penang, Georgetown, we visited the Kapitan Keling Mosque, and then lastly we went to Khoo Kongsi. For dinner to end this day in Penang, we went to a restaurant to eat dim sum, and a few other Chinese dishes as well.
Thank you for watching this “things to do in Geogetown, Penang” travel video. Hope you enjoyed it, and hope it will give you some ideas for what to do when you visit. More Penang street food videos coming soon!

Georgetown is a undoubtably a foodie paradise but there is so much more to see🥰

Penang island has become a popular tourist destination thanks to its colonial architecture, natural and cultural attractions, and some of the best street food in Asia. Here are 10 of the best things to do in Penang:
10. Try The Unique Cuisine Of Penang
Dishes you should try include Laksa, Cendol, and Nasi Kandar. In the heart of George Town you can also find the Chulia Street Night Market where you can sample some delicious Chinese-Malaysian food, such as Char Kuey Teow & Wonton Mee.
☑️ Penang Street Food Tour: https://www.getyourguide.com/george-town-malaysia-l35680/penang-plates-food-tour-with-15-tastings-t672622/?partner_id=57UJ5GF&utm_medium=online_publisher&cmp=Penang_video
9. Explore George Town’s Historical Streets & Art Scene
When walking around the historical area, you’ll find lots of beautiful buildings and wall paintings, which represent images from Penang’s past and daily life.
😴 Where we stayed in George Town - Attic Hotel: https://www.booking.com/hotel/my/champbell-rope-walk.en.html?aid=7936148&no_rooms=1&group_adults=2
8. Take The Funicular Up To Penang Hill
Penang Hill offers panoramic views of the city and the mainland in the distance. But you can also find a Hindu temple, a mosque, a variety of nature trails, an art gallery, and even cafés and food courts.
7. Discover Flora And Fauna At The Habitat
The Habitat is a rainforest discovery center that takes you into the heart of the jungle. It’s a treasure of biodiversity, boasting an abundance of wildlife. You can explore the forest by walking a nature trail, including informational signs, a canopy walk and a viewing platform.

6. Stroll Around Clan Jetties in George Town
Located at the waterfront, this unique type of settlement was created by Chinese immigrants in the late 19th century. There are now six jetties you can visit, and Chew Jetty is the most popular one.
5. Explore Little Indi
The temple Sri Mahamariamman marks the start of the area and behind it, you’ll find colorful streets with goldsmiths and stores selling sarees and trinkets. But what we loved the most was the tasty and authentic Indian food.
4. Discover The Buddhist Kek Lok Si Temple
Kek Lok Si is the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. The temple is made up of colorful prayer halls, beautiful gardens, ponds with fish and turtles, an impressive seven-tiered pagoda, and a large bronze statue of the Buddhist Goddess of compassion.
3. Hike At Penang National Park
Penang National Park is the smallest national park in Malaysia. There are 3 walking trails that cut through the jungle here. We decided to take the right fork to head to Monkey Beach, which is the most popular and easiest of the three trails as it’s relatively flat.
☑️ Monkey beach trail: https://www.alltrails.com/nl-nl/explore/recording/monkey-beach-hike-one-way-8819159
2. Sunbathe On Batu Ferringhi Beach
Batu Ferringhi Beach has powdery soft sands and turquoise waters to enjoy. It’s a great place to watch the sunset.

Balik Pulau is a hidden gem is covered by beautiful greenery, paddy fields, and rolling hills.

The Kek Lok Si Temple, located in Air Itam, George Town, Penang, Malaysia, is the largest Buddhist temple in the country and one of Southeast Asia’s most significant religious sites. Built between 1890 and 1930, the temple serves as a major pilgrimage center for Buddhists across the region, blending Mahayana Buddhism, Theravada influences, and traditional Chinese rituals in its architecture and practices.
Key Features:
1) Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas: This iconic seven-tiered structure stands 30 meters tall and uniquely combines Chinese, Thai, and Burmese architectural styles. It houses thousands of Buddha statues and offers stunning views from its summit.
2) Goddess of Mercy Statue: A towering 36.57-meter bronze statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, is a prominent feature. A pavilion supported by intricately carved dragon pillars protects the statue.
3) Temple Complex: Spanning 12 hectares, the complex includes prayer halls, pavilions, landscaped gardens, fish ponds, and a turtle liberation pond. Its vibrant decorations feature intricate woodwork, lanterns, and sculptures.
This video completes my video trilogy about Georgetown. For more of Georgetown’s wonders, check out other first two parts. In Part 1, we explore the city’s modern and historic sides, including the iconic Clan Jetties. After our trip to Langkawi, we headed to Georgetown, in Penang, Malaysia. One day we walked around and did all these things in a single day. More coming on: http://migrationology.com/
Penang, Malaysia is an island just off the coast of the West Coast of Malaysia. It’s one of the most famous areas of Malaysia, especially known for its rich and diverse culture and for its food - many people come to Penang just to eat - as did I.

PENANG, MALAYSIA - Welcome to Penang, one of the ultimate food destinations in Malaysia and the world. In this northern state of Malaysia you will find street food everywhere you look and today we’re going on a tour to eat 5 of the best Malaysian street food delicacies you don’t want to miss in Penang!
1. Ali Nasi Lemak Daun Pisang (https://maps.app.goo.gl/KoTTXgXVRwfhspCp6) - We’re starting with a true taste of Malaysian food - nasi lemak. The rice is cooked with coconut milk and fragrances and served here with a variety of sambal chili sauces with a variety of proteins like hard boiled eggs, anchovies and squid. Price - 3 MYR ($0.64) per packet
2. Deens Maju Nasi Kandar (https://maps.app.goo.gl/5oxkwm6HgqtS3rZu9) - Next up on this Malaysian street food tour we’re eating what is undoubtedly one of my favorite all time meals, nasi kandar. This meal has Indian origins of a selection of rice and curry that was served to boat crews along the Penang docks. Now it’s more than a food, it’s a unique cultural blend that represents Penang, Malaysia. Price: 42.90 MYR ($9.13) for 2 plates.
3. Laksa Mamu Famous Sungai Pinang (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Svd44TrcaVR2L18SA) - You’ll find many types of laksa in Malaysia, but one of the best is Penang Laksa, sour and herbal and with a torch ginger touch. Price - 6 MYR ($1.28)
4. 888 Hokkien Mee (https://maps.app.goo.gl/yumxKtCCUM6JosKX9) - Penang has a large Chinese influence as well, and there are many Chinese influenced Malaysian street foods. Hokkien prawn noodles are very popular and that broth is loaded with the intense flavor of dried shrimp. Price - 13 MRY ($2.77) with the add-ons
Bonus: Muscle Man's Char Koay Kak (https://maps.app.goo.gl/nbnqXhRLzp9FuhzEA) - This was a bonus, trying Muscle Man's Char Koay Kak!
5. CHONG Charcoal Seafood Char Kuey Teow (https://maps.app.goo.gl/WVM6nUGrFgxPGgpK7) - Another dish that Penangites and Malaysians are so passionate about is char kuey teow, fried rice noodles with lard and a variety of seafood. This was one of the better plates I’ve ever had! Price - 17 MYR ($3.61)
Penang is a Malaysian street food paradise and you don’t want to miss these 5 dishes and restaurants when you visit!
