IT'S GRIM IN THE VALLEYS! 8 Worst places in historic Gwent, Wales
It's a brand new episode of Turdtowns. This month we visited Monmouthshire/Gwent and the Welsh valleys. These are areas which have lacked in funding since the mines of Wales closed. This visit was a real eye opener as we drove up every single valley in the county. Many of the valley towns were similar so we've tried to pick on the worst, most run down and derelict.
Despite the lack of funding in the area, it has to be said that the Welsh people were polite and friendly, noticeably more than English people. I hope these areas can one day redeem themselves but for now they are the urinals of Wales!

Raglan Castle | Exploring Monmouthshire Wales
Raglan Castle is a ruined castle which still evokes the magnificence and grandeur from it's hey day.
The castle looms over the A40, one of the trunk-roads connecting the Welsh towns of Abergavenny and Chepstow with the borders of England.
Raglan has a rather checkered history – it started life, in late Medieval times, as a real fortified castle. However, being built during a peaceful period in the English/Welsh border wars, it didn’t see much military action. As a result, it evolved into a breathtakingly beautiful Tudor manor-house.
This is our very first castle explore video and I don't think we could of picked a better castle to explore due the it's majesty. We do hope you enjoy watching.

This extract comes from Claude Friese-Greene's 'The Open Road' - originally filmed in 1925/6 and now re-edited and digitally restored by the BFI National Archive. Britain seen in colour for the first time was heralded as a great technical advance for the cinema audience - now we can view a much improved image, but one which still stays true to the principles of the colour process.
The rather haphazard journey from Land's End to John O'Groats creates a series of moving picture postcards. Look out for shots containing the component colours - red and blue-green - such as when a little girl in a red coat and hat walks among peacocks in the grounds of a castle, and three girls with red curly hair pose by the sea at Torquay.
The car is a Vauxhall D-type - considered a sporty model at the time. A long-distance journey by car was a relatively new concept, with none of the amenities en route now taken for granted. The visit to a petrol station shows smoking on the forecourt: no health and safety issues back then! The travelogue ends with a series of recognisable London landmarks. Much remains the same - one major exception being the volume of traffic on the roads. (Jan Faull)
