Wales & Borders was a train operating company in the United Kingdom owned by National Express that operated the Wales & Borders franchise from October 2001 until December 2003.
History
In October 1996 the Valley Lines franchise commenced operating services around Cardiff and the South Wales Valleys. In March 2000 the Strategic Rail Authority decided to re-organise the Valley Lines and Wales & West franchises, both being operated by National Express.
Valley Lines became Wales & Borders from October 2001 combining its services with most of Wales & West's Welsh services and the Cambrian Line services from Central Trains. In September 2003 Wales & Borders took over the North Wales Coast Line services from First North Western.
.wales is one of two country code top level domains for Wales (the other being .cymru) which were put forth by Nominet UK in 2012. Final approval for both top level domains for Wales was granted by ICANN in June 2014.
A phased launch of the new domains was scheduled, with trademark holders being eligible to apply initially. General availability was expected by the spring of 2015. Early adopters of the domains include the Welsh government and male voice choirOnly Men Aloud!.
Wales (i/ˈweɪlz/; Welsh:Cymru[ˈkəm.rɨ]) is a country that is part of the United Kingdom and the island of Great Britain,bordered by England to its east, the Irish Sea to its north and west, and the Bristol Channel to its south. It had a population in 2011 of 3,063,456 and has a total area of 20,779km2 (8,023sqmi). Wales has over 1,680 miles (2,700km) of coastline and is largely mountainous, with its higher peaks in the north and central areas, including Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), its highest summit. The country lies within the north temperate zone and has a changeable, maritime climate.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.29 square miles (8.52km2), of which, 3.28 square miles (8.50km2) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03km2) is water.

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,549 people, 949 households, and 792 families residing in the village. The population density was 777.1 inhabitants per square mile (300.0/km2). There were 987 housing units at an average density of 300.9 per square mile (116.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.9% White, 0.4% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.2% from other races, and 0.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.8% of the population.

CAF Civity regional diesel train for Wales and Borders
CAF is the supplier of the new regional trains. These sets are part of the Civity UK low floor modular train platform. These are 2- and 3-car DMU units which can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. This fleet is manufactured at CAF's Newport plant, in South Wales, and will provide service on the Wales and Borders franchise lines in Wales.

New Transport for Wales trains being built
Work is continuing on the construction of Transport for Wales’ new trains for the Wales and Borders rail network and the South Wales Metro despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
TfW is investing £800 million into new trains and tram-trains to totally transform the customer experience throughout their Wales and Borders network. Work has been progressing with industry partners CAF and Stadler to design and build the new trains that will operate on 95% of their rail services.
Significant progress has been made on the Class 398 tram-trains and work has begun on the Class 231 trains. Both are being built by Stadler for the South Wales Metro. Alongside these, the Class 197 Civity trains being built for use on other Wales and Borders routes are currently being assembled at C...
