Head-to-head and tail-to-tail domain walls in ferroelectric thin films | EXPLAINED in details!!!
In recent years, many scholars have proposed numerous schemes on screening of bound charges and stabilization of head-to-head (HH) and tail-to-tail (TT) 180 degrees domain walls in ferroelectrics. By use of first-principles, most research groups employed (i) substitutional atoms at one or two HH and TT domain walls in superlattices, (ii) altering defect concentration at the tails in a thin films. However, such approaches say nothing regarding the intrinsic critical thickness for the stabilization of the two-dimensional conducting layers for screening of polarization charges, the spatial extend in which the hole and electron gases cover nor the magnitude extend of polarization if the said domain walls would be induced in a slab.

Domain wall motion in a ferrimagnetic layer
An amourphous ferrimagnetic layer with 50x100nm and 20nm thickness is investigated. The ferrimagnet is divided in patches with different magnetocrystalline anisotropy axis and anisotropy constant. The overall easy axis is out-of-plain.
The domain wall is drawn on 3 slices through the ferrimanget: center, bottom, top. The slices are colored by the anisotropy constant K_u. The darker the patch appears, the higher is its K_u value.
After artificially setting a domain wall an increasing external out-of-plain field is applied. The domain wall moves laterally through the layer and gets pinned at the repulsive barrier of patches with increased K_u (darkgray). With increasing external field the domain wall gets depinned and moves to the next repulsive patch boundary until full reversal.

New method to measure domain-wall motion contribution to piezoelectricity: the case of PbZr~0.65~Ti~0.35~O~3~ ferroelectric
A new data analysis routine is introduced to reconstruct the change in lattice parameters in individual ferroelastic domains and the role of domain-wall motion in the piezoelectric effect. Using special electronics for the synchronization of a PILATUS X-ray area detector with a voltage signal generator, the X-ray diffraction intensity distribution was measured around seven split Bragg peaks as a function of external electric field. The new data analysis algorithm allows the calculation of `extrinsic' (related to domain-wall motion) and `intrinsic' (related to the change in lat...

Nanowire Domain Wall Propagation (4K-60Hz)
This is a nickel nanowire undergoing magnetic reversal at a rate of 100,000T/s. This may seem like a high rate, but, because the dynamics occur on the order of picoseconds, this 10ns long animation only spans 42-43mT, so this is essentially a ground state simulation. Experimental work confirmed 250m/s to be a reasonable domain wall velocity in a nanowire of comparable size.
At the time of energy release, there is a fluctuation in the average x-axis and y-axis magnetization (in the plane orthogonal to the axis of nanowire). This fluctuation is amplitude modulated with a 450Hz sine wave to carry the observed 4.5Hz visual fluctuations, which correspond to 7.5GHz magnetic fluctuations.
The average x and y axis magnetizations are tied to the right and left audio channels, respectively, with n...

Learn Piezo Lecture 4D: Domain wall motion and its contribution to piezoelectricity
In this lecture from Learn Piezo, we learn how the phenomenon of domain wall motion contributes to piezoelectricity. Within a grain of piezoelectric material, there are sub-polarization domains. These domains grow in size at the expense of other domains. Because the domains have different polarization states, the growth of a domain increases piezoelectricity - the coupling between polarization and mechanical stress.

The new data analysis algorithm allows the calculation of `extrinsic' (related to domain-wall motion) and `intrinsic' (related to the change in lattice parameters) contributions to the electric-field-induced deformation. Compared with previously existing approaches, the new method benefits from the availability of a three-dimensional diffraction intensity distribution, which enables the separation of Bragg peaks diffracted from differently oriented domain sets. The new technique is applied to calculate the extrinsic and intrinsic contributions to the piezoelectricity in a single crystal of the ferroelectric PbZr~1−x~Ti~x~O~3~ (x = 0.35). The root-mean-square value of the piezoelectric coefficient was obtained as 112 pC N^−1^. The contribution of the domain-wall motion is estimated as 99 pC N^−1^. The contribution of electric-field-induced changes to the lattice parameters averaged over all the domains is 71 pC N^−1^. The equivalent value corresponding to the change in lattice parameters in individual domains may reach up to 189 pC N^−1^.

The average x and y axis magnetizations are tied to the right and left audio channels, respectively, with no phase shift on the carrier frequency.
It is recommended to wear binaural headphones to fully appreciate this affect, or just regular headphones if you're a normal person.
FMR measurements on wires of a similar geometry demonstrated this frequency to be reasonable (although FMR spectra vary depending on the applied magnetic field).
Experimental validation performed by Reza Zamani.

Domain and Range of a Function From a Graph
This precalculus video tutorial explains how to find the domain and range of a function given its graph in interval notation. The domain represents all of the x values in the function and the range represents all of the y values. You should use parentheses for open circles and infinity symbols but you should brackets for closed circles. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems of finding the domain and range of a graph.

Algebra I on Khan Academy: Algebra is the language through which we describe patterns. Think of it as a shorthand, of sorts. As opposed to having to do something over and over again, algebra gives you a simple way to express that repetitive process. It's also seen as a "gatekeeper" subject. Once you achieve an understanding of algebra, the higher-level math subjects become accessible to you. Without it, it's impossible to move forward. It's used by people with lots of different jobs, like carpentry, engineering, and fashion design. In these tutorials, we'll cover a lot of ground. Some of the topics include linear equations, linear inequalities, linear functions, systems of equations, factoring expressions, quadratic expressions, exponents, functions, and ratios.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

For Domain, you just need to watch out for Square Roots and/or Fractions!
If your function is...
1) a POLYNOMIAL (no square roots or fractions), i.e. f(x) = x^2 + 3x + 1, domain is "all real numbers."
2) a FRACTION (w/ no square root), i.e. f(x) = (2x+1)/(x^2+5x+6). Set bottom "not equal" to zero. Solve for x.
3) a SQUARE ROOT (w/ no fraction), i.e. f(x) = sqrt(x+1). Set part under root "greater than or equal to zero".
4) a FRACTION w/ A SQUARE ROOT ON BOTTOM, i.e. f(x) = (x^2+2x+3)/(sqrt(x+1)). Set part under root "greater than zero." Solve the inequality. NOTE THE DIFFERENCE: You must set it greater than zero, not "greater than OR EQUAL TO zero" because we can't have zero (or square root of zero) in the denominator.
5) a FRACTION w/ A SQUARE ROOT ON TOP, i.e. f(x) = (sqrt(x+1))/(x^2+4), i) Set the bottom "not equal to" zero & solve; ii) Set what's under the root "greater than or equal to zero" & solve; iii) Take intersection of your two solutions.
