The Iraqi Army is the ground force component of the armed forces of the Republic of Iraq, having been active in various incarnations throughout the 20th century and 21st century.
The Iraqi Army in its modern form was first created by the United Kingdom during the inter-war period of de facto British control of Mandatory Iraq. Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Iraqi Army was rebuilt along American lines with enormous amounts of U.S. military assistance at every level. Because of the Iraqi insurgency that began shortly after the invasion, the Iraqi Army was designed to initially be a counter-insurgency force. With the US withdrawal in December 2011, Iraqi forces have assumed full responsibility for security. A New York Times article suggested that, between 2004 and 2014, the USA had provided the Iraqi Army with $25billion in training and equipment in addition to an even larger sum from the Iraqi treasury.
History
The threat of war with newly forming Republic of Turkey, which claimed the Ottoman vilayet of Mosul as part of their country, led the British to form the Iraqi Army on 6 January 1921. The Mussa Al-Kadhum Brigade consisted of ex-Iraqi-Ottoman officers, whose barracks were located in Kadhimyah. The United Kingdom provided support and training to the Iraqi Army and the Iraqi Air Force through a small military mission based in Baghdad. Iraqi Army Day celebrates the soldiers that fight for Iraq.

Inside the Iraqi Army's Fight Against ISIS
The fight to retake Mosul, the biggest city in ISIS' so-called caliphate, lasted over 10 months and was the biggest urban battle to take place since World War II. As civilians of Mosul endured the impossible choice of hiding in their homes or fleeing, running the risk of being killed by ISIS, the war raged on--bombarding homes and destroying everything in its path.
With unparalleled access back in 2017, VICE's Ben Anderson followed the Iraqi Army as they fought the terrorist group, room to room, house to house and street to street, often fighting for days on end and suffering horrendous casualties on a slow crawl to liberation.

Iraqi Forces Take Back al-Nuri Mosque
West Mosul, Iraq – As Iraqi military recaptured the al-Nuri Mosque Thursday, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi claimed victory in the long fight against ISIS. Retaking the mosque was symbolically important – ISIS used the site to declare a so-called caliphate in 2014 – and Iraqi forces have fought a grueling battle to claw back lost territory in the three years since.
VICE News' Ben Anderson has been following the Iraqi Army’s painstaking fight against the terror group, as they trying to cut the route between two of ISIS’s last remaining positions in west Mosul: the al-Jamhuri Hospital, which gives ISIS snipers a huge military advantage, and the old city, where most of the remaining fighters are hiding among civilians as they take their brutal last stand.

War in Iraq 2017 - The Iraqi Army and Iraqi paramilitary units released footage of them launching an offensive against the ISIS in some parts of Anbar province.
The video shows Iraqi forces in heavy clashes and firefights during combat action during the assault in order to capture enemy positions. The operation was a joint Iraqi Army and Iraqi paramilitary units. Footage released by the war media team.
Iraqi Army Day celebrates the soldiers that fight for Iraq.
let them think that they are better, they will pass as time has shown, we're gonna stick around, long enough to keep them down, but I can't do this on my own. only happy when you play the game, but good at losing all the time, I'm gonna win this case, cause I'm a bigger frame, but I can't do this on my own ((chorus)) this new army will never fall, this is nothing more than a wake-up call they promise you a view, just reach the top slipping down each time you climb, looking for a face, something you can replace, leaving everything behind. ((chorus)) this new army will never fall, this is nothing more than a wake-up call so let me hear you if you're with me, cause I can't do this on my own, let me hear you if you're with me, cause I can't do this on my own, this new army will never fall,
