A vice president (in British English: vice-president for governments and director for businesses) is an officer in government or business who is below a president (managing director) in rank. The name comes from the Latinvice meaning "in place of". In some countries, the vice president is called the deputy president. In everyday speech, the abbreviation VP can be used.
In government
In government, a vice-president is a person whose primary responsibility is to act in place of the president on the event of the president's death, resignation or incapacity. Vice presidents are either elected jointly with the president as their running mate, or more rarely, appointed independently after the president's election.
Most governments with vice presidents have one person in this role at any time, although in some countries there are two or more vice-presidents. If the president is not present, dies, resigns, or is otherwise unable to fulfill their duties, the vice president will generally serve as president. In many presidential systems, the vice president does not wield much day-to-day political power, but is still considered an important member of the cabinet. Several vice presidents in the Americas held the position of President of the Senate; this is the case, for example, in Argentina, the United States, and Uruguay. The vice president sometimes assumes some of the ceremonial duties of the president, such as attending functions and events that the actual president may be too busy to attend; the Vice President of the United States, for example, often attends funerals of world leaders on behalf of the president.
In academic administrations such as colleges or universities, a dean is the person with significant authority over a specific academic unit, or over a specific area of concern, or both. Deans are occasionally found in middle schools and high schools as well.
The term comes from the Latindecanus, "a leader of ten", taken from the medievalmonasteries (particularly those following the Cluniac Reforms) which were often extremely large, with hundreds of monks (the size of a small college campus). The monks were organized into groups of ten for administrative purposes, along the lines of military platoons, headed by a senior monk, the decanus.
The term was later used to denote the head of a community of priests, as the chapter of a cathedral, or a section of a diocese (a "deanery").
When the universities grew out of the cathedral and monastery schools, the title of dean was used for officials with various administrative duties.
United States
Some junior high schools and high schools have a teacher or administrator referred to as a dean who is in charge of student discipline and to some degree administrative services. In large schools or some boarding schools there may be a dean of men or boys, and a dean of women or girls, or each year (freshman, sophomore, etc.) may have a dean. Although most high schools are led by a principal or headmaster, a few (particularly private preparatory schools) refer to their chief authority as a dean.
Egypt is a BBC televisiondocudrama serial portraying events in the history of Egyptology from the 18th through early 20th centuries. It originally aired on Sunday nights at 9pm on BBC1 in 2005. The first two episodes explored the work of Howard Carter and his archaeological quest in Egypt in the early part of the twentieth century. The next two episodes focused on the eccentric explorer "The Great Belzoni". played here by ]Matthew Kelly. The final two episodes dramatise the discovery and deciphering of the Rosetta Stone by Jean-François Champollion (Elliot Cowan).
The music was recorded by the Warsaw Radio Orchestra and is featured on the CD Timeless Histories by Chappell music, produced by Clare Isaacs.
Production
The series was a major new docudrama series produced by the BBC for the Autumn 2005 schedule.
In order to create a sense of "seeing the treasures of Ancient Egypt for the first time", Dolling and Bradshaw felt it essential to film at the actual archaeological sites referenced in the series.

With professional experiences ranging from teaching engineering to future military officers at West Point to establishing the mechanical engineering program at The Citadel, Rob Rabb has developed a guiding belief to underpin his approach to education. He summed up this belief in one sentence: “Engineers can do a lot for a society, whether in industry or academia, but first they need a strong foundation — not just with technical knowledge but with skills like teamwork, communication and leadership.”
This philosophy is one that he will apply in his new role as associate dean of education for the Penn State College of Engineering. Rabb started in the position on Aug. 1.

Technology, Education and the Work of the Future | Peter Dean | TEDxFulbrightPerth
The power of human knowledge has taken the West in many different directions over the last twenty years. From the turn of the century a technology revolution has swept the globe holding out the promise of greater freedom and a more inclusive and equal society. But as technology has advanced, so too has unequal progress and concerns over the nature of these changes. One of the key questions facing moderns societies in this “fourth industrial revolution” is what will be the impact of digital disruption on how we work and the type of jobs that will have? In this new technological world how do we prepare for the future of work and what role is there for education in preparing us for the jobs of 2030? Peter is the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) at The University of Western Australia. An award ...

An award winning teaching his career the education spans more than 20 years and has seen him work as a high school teacher, curriculum designer, education consultant and university leader. Before joining UWA, Peter held leadership positions in education at the Australian National University and the University of Notre Dame Australia. Peter’s research discipline is in strategic studies and he has been a Fulbright Fellow, an Endeavour Research Scholar, as well as a non-resident fellow with the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. An author of eight books Peter is also the series co-editor of the Melbourne University Press Defence Studies and a member of the Editorial Board of the Australian Army Journal. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

About Dean Schneider:
I am a 30-year old Swiss guy, who dedicated his entire life to the animal world! Nowadays, I live in Africa, I am a member of a lion pride, my wife is a hyena and I’m a daddy of two monkeys. Besides that, I have built a global voice for our planet’s wildlife over the past two years!
Born in Switzerland (Zurich) on October 3, 1992, I was blessed to grow up in a loving family with my sister (one year older) and my parents, who were always very supportive and loving. My mother is originally from the Balkan region (Southeastern Europe), while my dad is a Swiss citizen. I discovered my deep passion for wildlife at the age of six or seven, through the legendary Steve Irwin! He was the one who brought wildlife into my living room in Zurich and inspired and educated me about all kinds of different animal species.
Even though I was so passionate about animals, I originally followed a very ordinary path to adulthood, eventually ending up in the finance industry as a financial advisor. After a very successful year, I decided to found my own company, which then, over the next three years, allowed me to generate the financial foundation to launch the Hakuna Mipaka project at the age of 23-24.
After starting my life in South Africa additional financial support form my Family allowed me to evolve and develop the Hakuna Mipaka Oasis for 2 Years without having to depend on any income sources such as offering touristic visits / programs, breeding or trading of animals, donations or any other monetary businesses!
About Hakuna Mipaka:
The Hakuna Mipaka Oasis is located on around 400 hectares (four million square meters) in the wilderness of South Africa! It is home to thousands of different wild animal species! Besides that, the oasis also serves as a life-long home to a few rescued wild animals, which were born in captivity! We also do rehabilitation programs with different animals, which are then being released back into the wild.
The Hakuna Mipaka Oasis is my personal home and a private sanctuary that is NOT open to the public. We don’t cater to tourists and don’t allow any day visits or animal activities! We don’t breed animals and we are also not trading animals. I built this place for animals and not for humans. The Hakuna Mipaka oasis is a secure, wild & lifelong home to the animals that live here.

University of Chicago: The pros, the cons, and how to get in.
***Update July 2024***
Starting fall of 2024, UChicago introduced a new, first-of-its-kind admissions option called SSEN (Summer Student Early Notification). If you participated in one of UChicago's Pre-College Summer Programs during high school (either in-person or online), you are eligible to apply early decision to UChicago before anyone else -- anytime between Sept. 1 and Oct. 15 -- and get a decision within just three weeks! It's a binding commitment, and it likely confers the same admissions advantage of applying Early Decision. But the best part of SSEN is that if you apply early enough, and get deferred or rejected, you still have time to apply ED to another school by the November 1 deadline.
The best way to get into a highly-selective college like UChicago is to understand what...

real talk about if UChicago is too hard and if you will fit in
This is probably the #1 question people ask me about UChicago and, I've gotta say, I've met people on campus who really just didn't like it. So in this video, I break down the whole "UChicago is too hard" sentiment, emphasize what's hard about it and how to ~skirt past the hardness~ and describe the kinds of people who end up doing well on campus!

University of Chicago - 5 Things I Wish I Had Known Before Attending
http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-things-i-wish-i-had-known-before-attending-university-of-chicago/ - Though the University of Chicago (called “UChicago” by its denizens) is losing its reputation as the school “Where Fun Comes to Die,” it is still the most rewarding to those who work the hardest. These are the five things I wish I had been told before I kicked off my fast paced and zany four years at UChicago. University of Chicago’s reputation for academic rigor is not exaggerated. For some students, this means long hours in the library. For others it means showing up to every single class attentive and fully awake. Most students take far too long to realize that the most important part of their UChicago education is not the compulsory stuff like classes or homework.

Back when I was a prospective student, watching campus tours on youtube were literally my favorite pastime so I'm so excited to finally be making one for UChicago! In case you can't make it to Chicago, this is basically a virtual tour of all the important and beautiful spots on campus. I hope that it gives you a solid glimpse into what the university looks like (and hopefully you can come and visit for yourself at some point too)!!

The best way to get into a highly-selective college like UChicago is to understand what makes that university unique -- academically, culturally, socially -- and then to tailor your application so it seems like it's the "perfect match" for your past accomplishments and future goals. Top universities aren't just looking for great candidates; they're specifically looking for candidates who are uniquely poised to take advantage of the distinct programs and opportunities that the school has to offer -- in other words, things you can't find anywhere else.

Hey everyone! I was thinking recently about things I love about UChicago and things I don't really love so I decided to just expand the list into 10 pros and cons for this video. If you're thinking about applying, or you're not sure if you should commit to this school, hopefully this will help you to decide! Some of the points are very trivial and others have a more profound impact on your time here, and they're listed in no specific order; this is meant to just give a glimpse into some of the things I feel like you should know about before coming!

On October 21, 2024, Vice President Kamala Harris had just wrapped up a rally in Brookfield, WI, for her presidential campaign. As her motorcade headed to the airport, a car traveling the wrong way came alarmingly close, missing the convoy by mere feet. The driver was soon pulled over and appeared heavily intoxicated, claiming he was unaware he had been driving against traffic on the freeway. U.S. Secret Service agents then arrived to question the driver, who seemed completely unaware that he had narrowly avoided colliding with Kamala Harris’s 29-vehicle motorcade.

An award winning teaching his career the education spans more than 20 years and has seen him work as a high school teacher, curriculum designer, education consultant and university leader.

About #UChicagoAdmissions: The University of Chicago is home to a liberal arts college within one of the world’s most preeminent research universities. Students in the College are empowered to engage with challenging ideas and encouraged to express themselves freely in the small, discussion-based courses of our interdisciplinary Core curriculum. UChicago’s location in the historic residential neighborhood of Hyde Park provides students with the best of two worlds: a comfortable home in a neighborhood with a college-town feel, and easy access to a world-class city. UChicago is committed to ensuring that any student, regardless of background, can find a home here: applications are reviewed holistically, meaning that they are evaluated within the context of a student’s experience, and families making less than $125,000 per year will not need to pay tuition.

Some of the points are very trivial and others have a more profound impact on your time here, and they're listed in no specific order; this is meant to just give a glimpse into some of the things I feel like you should know about before coming!

http://www.gobeyondthebrochure.com/5-things-i-wish-i-had-known-before-attending-university-of-chicago/ - Though the University of Chicago (called “UChicago” by its denizens) is losing its reputation as the school “Where Fun Comes to Die,” it is still the most rewarding to those who work the hardest.
