Why Give Up Smoking?

Main points:
1. The tobacco used in cigarettes contain over 7000 chemicals - at least 250 of these are known to be harmful to health and over 70 are known carcinogens
2. Many chemicals within tobacco are absorbed into the bloodstream. This means that the harmful effects of cigarettes are not just limited to the lung
3. Nicotine is the main chemical responsible for the positive feelings associated with smoking. Nicotine can make you feel more alert, focussed and relaxed.

Smoker's lungs versus healthy lungs
This demo shows a healthy set of lungs and a set of lungs similar to someone who smoked a pack of cigarettes every day for 20 years. You can see that tar has formed a sticky black layer inside the lungs, which restricts oxygen flow and contributes to cancers forming. Choose to have healthy lungs, and say no to all forms of tobacco.

For those of you who don't know IQOS is the newest device for smoking cessation. It has been cleared by the FDA for sale in the United States for summer of 2019.
#IQOS uses heetsticks to heat tobacco to 350°C, without combustion or smoke. Because the tobacco is not burned, the amount of harmful chemicals are significantly reduced compared to traditional cigarettes.
FDA
The aerosol produced by the IQOS Tobacco Heating System contains fewer toxic chemicals than cigarette smoke, and many of the toxins identified are present at lower levels than in #cigarette smoke. For example, the carbon monoxide exposure from IQOS aerosol is comparable to environmental exposure, and levels of acrolein and formaldehyde are 89% to 95% and 66% to 91% lower than from combustible cigarettes, respectively.

As for vaping, studies conducted by the Royal College of Physicians that show that e-cigarettes available today are unlikely to exceed 5% of the harm from #smoking tobacco.

Also, there is a new study as of January 2019 conducted by the New England Journal of Medicine. The study shows that for people trying to quit tobacco, switching to e-cigarettes was nearly TWICE as effective as using other forms of Nicotine Replacement Therapy.

The rise of teens smoking e-cigarettes has been alarming, especially because many of these kids are not using their vapes to quit smoking tobacco, they are following a trend.

We all know that smoking is not good for you. However, if you are trying to quit smoking cigarettes vaping or IQOS can be a much healthier option for those people.

Smoking Kills || ELEVEN GATES
This article is about smoking of tobacco and other drugs. For the method of food preparation, see Smoking (cooking). For other uses, see Smoking (disambiguation).
Smoking is a practice in which a substance is burned and the resulting smoke breathed in to be tasted and absorbed into the bloodstream. Most commonly the substance is the dried leaves of the tobacco plant which have been rolled into a small square of rice paper to create a small, round cylinder called a "cigarette". Smoking is primarily practiced as a route of administration for recreational drug use because the combustion of the dried plant leaves vaporizes and delivers active substances into the lungs where they are rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream and reach bodily tissue. In the case of cigarette smoking these substance...

What can Twitter Tell us about Quitting Smoking?
For the past decade, the Health Media Collaboratory has studied whether and how televised anti-smoking ads influence individuals' ideas about smoking, and whether they will quit smoking. Recently the Collaboratory recognized the growing significance of social networks and developing a new conceptual framework for understanding the relationship between media and health behavior.
The analytics teams at the Health Media Collaboratory struggled with their usual data analytics tools. They could not find a happy medium between Excel and statistical software like SPSS to help analyze the tweets. They required a tool that could easily explore a million tweets without restrictions on data size, but also visualize the data in new ways to help us make insightful connections with our data. Tableau a...

In the case of cigarette smoking these substances are contained in a mixture of aerosol particles and gasses and include the pharmacologically active alkaloid nicotine; the vaporization creates heated aerosol and gas to form that allows inhalation and deep penetration into the lungs where absorption into the bloodstream of the active substances occurs. In some cultures, smoking is also carried out as a part of various rituals, where participants use it to help induce trance-like states that, they believe, can lead them to "spiritual enlightenment".
Cigarettes are primarily industrially manufactured but also can be hand-rolled from loose tobacco and rolling paper. Other smoking implements include pipes, cigars, bidis, hookahs, vaporizers, and bongs.
Smoking generally has adverse health effects, because smoke inhalation inherently poses challenges to various physiologic processes such as respiration. Diseases related to tobacco smoking have been shown to kill approximately half of long term smokers when compared to average mortality rates faced by non-smokers. A 2007 report states that, each year, about 4.9 million people worldwide die as a result of smoking.[1]
Smoking is one of the most common forms of recreational drug use. Tobacco smoking is the most popular form, being practiced by over one billion people globally, of whom the majority are in the developing world.Less common drugs for smoking include cannabis and opium. Some of the substances are classified as hard narcotics, like heroin, but the use of these is very limited as they are usually not commercially available.
The history of smoking can be dated to as early as 5000 BC, and has been recorded in many different cultures across the world. Early smoking evolved in association with religious ceremonies; as offerings to deities, in cleansing rituals or to allow shamans and priests to alter their minds for purposes of divination or spiritual enlightenment. After the European exploration and conquest of the Americas, the practice of smoking tobacco quickly spread to the rest of the world. In regions like India and Sub-Saharan Africa, it merged with existing practices of smoking (mostly of cannabis). In Europe, it introduced a new type of social activity and a form of drug intake which previously had been unknown.
Perception surrounding smoking has varied over time and from one place to another: holy and sinful, sophisticated and vulgar, a panacea and deadly health hazard. In the 20th century smoking came to be viewed in a decidedly negative light, especially in Western countries. This is due to smoking tobacco being among the leading causes of many diseases such as lung cancer, heart attacks, COPD, erectile dysfunction, and birth defects. The health hazards of smoking have caused many countries to institute high taxes on tobacco products, run ads to discourage use, limit ads that promote use, and provide help with quitting for those who do smoke.

Chevrolet Lumina
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about the U.S. market sedan and coupé sold between 1989-2001. For the minivan, see Chevrolet Lumina APV. For other uses, see Chevrolet Lumina (disambiguation).
The Chevrolet Lumina is a name used on many vehicles produced by Chevrolet. First introduced for the 1990 model year, Chevrolet used the name on a sedan, a coupé, and a minivan.[1] The sedan replaced the Chevrolet Celebrity, the coupé was renamed the Monte Carlo, and the minivan was both a replacement for the Celebrity station wagon and a completely new vehicle. In 1995, the Lumina Coupé was replaced by the Monte Carlo.[2] In 1997, the Chevrolet Lumina APV was replaced by the Chevrolet Venture.[3] In 2000, the Lumina Sedan was replaced by the Impala.[1]
The third and fourth generation was manufactured in Australia by GM-owned Holden, for export mainly to the Middle East and South Africa between 1998 and 2013.
Starting in 1990, Chevrolet offered a high performance version of the Lumina, the Lumina Z34. In order to enhance its performance it came standard with the FE3 sport suspension package, the 210 hp LQ1 V6 engine shared with the Lumina Euro 3.4 (sedan), the five speed Getrag 284 manual transmission, dual exhaust and four-wheel anti-lock brakes. The Z34 also featured cosmetic changes to go along with the performance enhancements such as unique front and rear fascias, side skirts, a rear spoiler, a louvered hood, a unique steering wheel and sport bucket seats. Performance figures were quite impressive for a front wheel drive V6 engine powered car, with a 0-60 mph (0–97 km/h) time of 7.2 seconds, a 1/4 mile (~400 m) time of 15.0 seconds, a (limited) top speed of 130 mph (209.21 km/h), a 60-0 mph (97–0 km/h) distance of in 153 ft (47 m), and a lateral acceleration of 0.79 g's (7.7 m/s²). A Bose stereo system and automatic transmission, which lowered the horsepower rating to 200 and 0-60 time by a .5 seconds, were optional. The only paint colors available for the Z34 were white, red, black, gray, silver, and light blue. In 1995, the Lumina Z34 was replaced with the Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34.

Tableau allows for quick discovery of the connections between the text of a tweet and its valuable metadata.
This presentation will explore how Twitter and other social media platforms can be utilized to effectively understand an audience's behavior. What is a firehose of social data? Is there an advantage to using a purchased API firehose of social data versus Twitter's free pubic datastream? What social media data platforms are available and what are the demographic of those platforms? How can I effectively use keyword queries to capture social media data and how do I know my data is accurate? And finally, what metadata is available for social media platforms and how can Tableau be useful in the analysis and visualization of metadata.
