The Birthday Massacre (abbreviated TBM) is a Canadian band, formed in 1999 in London, Ontario, and currently based in Toronto, Ontario. The current line-up consists of Chibi (vocals), Falcore (guitars), Rainbow (guitars), Owen (synthesizers), Nate Manor (bass guitar) and Rhim (drums).
When the band formed in 1999, they were known as Imagica. This name was inspired from the fantasy novelImajica (1991) by Clive Barker. In 2002, they changed the name to The Birthday Massacre after one of their earlier songs in order to avoid confusion with another group. The song "The Birthday Massacre" was then renamed to "Happy Birthday". According to their vocalist Chibi: "it kind of works well for the music that we're making. Sort of contrasty, you know? Birthday, and massacre. Light, and dark. Cute, and evil".
Birthday(バースデイ,Bāsudei) is an anthology by Japanese writer Koji Suzuki first published on February 5, 1999 in Japan. It is the fourth installment of Suzuki's Ring series.
Plot
The book consists of three short stories occurring each in a different timeframe, and are all related to the Ringuniverse:
Floating Coffin – This covers the last moments of character Mai Takano's life, which were omitted in the second novel of the series, Rasen (published in the United States of America and United Kingdom under the title Spiral). The story is told from her perspective.
Lemonheart – The second story of the anthology, and the basis for the screenplay of film Ring 0: Birthday (2000). The majority of it takes place during central character Sadako Yamamura's time with the Hishio acting troupe at the age of 19. The focus of this story is Sadako's intimate relationship with fellow acting troupe member, Hiroshi Toyama, and her social alienation from the rest of the members. It also reveals the full story of her death and "rebirth" in the cursed videotape.
"Birthday" is a song written by Lennon–McCartney and performed by the Beatles on their double albumThe Beatles (commonly known as The White Album). It is the opening track on the third side of the LP (or the second disc in CD versions of the record). The song is an example of the Beatles' return to more traditional rock and roll form, although their music had increased in complexity and it had developed more of its own characteristic style by this point. Surviving Beatles McCartney and Ringo Starr performed it for Starr's 70th birthday at Radio City Music Hall on 7 July 2010.
Writing
The song was largely written during a recording session at Abbey Road Studios on 18 September 1968 by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. McCartney: "We thought, 'Why not make something up?' So we got a riff going and arranged it around this riff. So that is 50-50 John and me, made up on the spot and recorded all in the same evening." During the session, the Beatles and the recording crew made a short trip around the corner to McCartney's house to watch the 1956 rock & roll movie The Girl Can't Help It which was being shown for the first time on British television. After the movie they returned to record "Birthday".
The Ring Volume 0: Birthday is the 5th installment of The Ringmanga series, based on the Japanese film of the same name. The antagonist of previous ring films & manga, Sadako Yamamura, is now the protagonist, it explores the origin of the cursed video, her early life, and the development of her powers. Both the film and manga are loosely based on the Ring Novel Series by Koji Suzuki.
Introduction
The events in The Ring Volume 0: Birthday take place 30 years prior to the events in previous manga installments and films. The antagonist, Sadako Yamamura, has been put into the role of protagonist and her background is explored. The manga opens in Tokyo with two women having a conversation over their phones about a dream related to a video. In the dream the woman having a conversation is seen exploring the premise of an abandoned house. As she explores the house further she finds a well and an opening in the house, she goes through the opening and up a pair of stairs. Next follows a scene where a woman is knocked into the well, this foreshadows the end of the book where Sadako is pushed into the well by her father.
The Vampire was a jet-propelled car that currently holds the outright British land speed record, driven by Colin Fallows to a mean speed of 300.3mph (483.3km/h) on July 5, 2000 at Elvington, Yorkshire, England.
Vampire was 30 feet (9.1m) long and consumed from 7 to 10 UK gallons of fuel per mile. Powered by a Rolls-Royce Orpheusturbojet engine, it could accelerate from standstill to 272mph (438km/h) in six seconds, a personal best set at Santa Pod Raceway.
Vampire was originally constructed by Allan 'Bootsie' Herridge, a pioneer British drag racer, as one of a pair of identical match-race jet dragsters in 1981. The sister car "Hellbender" was involved in a crash in 1986 in which Mark Woodley, an experienced dragster driver, was killed.
Vampire crashed in 2006 during shooting of a segment for the television show Top Gear, severely injuring its driver, Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond. Hammond's peak speed was higher than the official British land speed record, recording a top speed of 314mph (505km/h). However, he did not officially break the British record as, according to the rules, two runs in different directions and an independent observer are required. Hammond crashed on his seventh run. Jeremy Clarkson joked that Hammond would have created the record for the fastest crash but would have needed to repeat the crash in the opposite direction.
