The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre is the name given to the 1929 murder of seven mob associates and a mechanic of the North SideIrish gang led by Bugs Moran during the Prohibition Era. It resulted from the struggle– between the Irish American gang and the South SideItalian gang led by Al Capone– to take control of organized crime in Chicago. Former members of the Egan's Rats gang were also suspected of having played a significant role in the incident, assisting Capone.
History
On February 14, 1929, seven men were lined up against the rear inside wall of the garage at 2122 North Clark Street, in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago's North Side, and murdered. They were shot by four men using weapons that included two Thompson submachine guns ("tommy guns"). Two of the shooters were dressed as uniformed policemen, while the others wore suits, ties, overcoats and hats. Witnesses saw the "police" leading the other men at gunpoint out of the garage after the shooting.
Between January 20, 1998 and May 14, 2003, Dawson's Creek aired six seasons on the American television networkThe WB, the first a mid-season replacement and the following five as regular seasons. One hundred and twenty-eight episodes were produced over the show's six-year run, and concluded with a two-hour series finale. All six seasons are available on DVD in Regions 1, 2 and 4.

Swollen Members is a Canadian hip hop group from Vancouver, British Columbia, consisting mainly of the duo Madchild and Prevail. Frequent collaborators include vocalist Moka Only (who was actually a member of the group for a short period of time in the mid-1990s when the group was formed, and then again from 2002 to 2005) along with the other former members Easy Roc & Zodak who were only in the group for a few years and producer Rob the Viking, an official group member since 2002. Swollen Members has released nine studio albums, one greatest hits album and 2 compilations, as well as numerous other singles.
History
Foundation and single releases
Swollen Members was founded in 1995 by Vancouverites Madchild (Shane Bunting), Prevail (Kiley Hendriks), and Moka Only (Daniel Denton). Having begun a solo career while living in San Francisco, California, Madchild returned to Vancouver to work. There he met Prevail and Moka Only, who had been working together. They joined together. The group had to decide on a name and Moka Only suggested Swollen Members as a joke and it stuck.

The St Valentine’s Day Massacre And The Fall Of Bugs Moran
The day America witnessed the fall of Chicago’s most notorious Irish American gang.
February 14, 1929. A day that would live in infamy as one of the bloodiest in mob history.
7 Men. Gunned down in Chicago. The rise of a criminal empire and the fall of another: The St Valentine’s Day Massacre.
Chicago was the battleground as Al “Scarface” Capone looked to consolidate his control of the city’s illegal trades: bootlegging, gambling and prostitution.
In his way stood Irish American gangster George “Bugs” Moran and the North Side Gang.
A petty thief in his teens, Bugs went to prison three times before he even was 21. Following the introduction of Prohibition, Moran operated a bootlegging operation out of a garage in Chicago.
On snowy Thursday, February 14th, 1929, a black unmarked police Cadillac pulled up to Moran’s headquarters - The SMC Cartage Company on 2122 North Clark Street.
Four men got out - two dressed as policemen and two in regular clothing. Believing it to be a raid, Bugs’ gang were lined up against the wall of the garage.
The quartet then opened fire, firing off some 70 rounds of ammunition in the process via two Thompson submachine guns – both of which were later linked back to Capone.
Seven members of Moran’s gang were killed: Frank and Peter Gusenberg, James Clark, Aday Heyer, Reinhardt Schwimmer Al Weinshank, and John May.
The Gusenberg brothers were hired killers, Weinshank was a club owner and Clark a hit man, while Heyer did the books, and May was a mechanic.
The group were aged between 35 and 42 – considered middle aged for gangsters.
May survived the initial shooting thanks to a Saint medal which was struck by a bullet. Unfortunately, the killers found himstill breathing and finished the job with a shotgun at point blank range.
They didn’t quite finish off Gusenberg, who lived on for three hours after the initial attack.
Repeatedly asked by police in his final hours to identify who shot him, Gusenberg’s response remained the same: “Nobody shot me.”
It’s thought that the arrival of Weinshank at the garage sparked off the attack – he was the spitting image of Moran, the main target, and even dressed similarly.
His arrival set the massacre in motion and possibly spared Moran the same fate.
Al Capone was never arrested – he told police he he was staying on Palm Island in Florida at the time.
Jack “Machine Gun” McGurn was thought to be the mastermind behind the plan.
He was questioned but never arrested – his girlfriend earned herself the nickname “The blonde alibi” after she claimed they were together that afternoon.
Though Moran survived, the North Side Gang’s power began to wane. Moran got his revenge though: in 1936 McGurn was killed and he was among the prime suspects.
Moran would eventually leave Chicago and the gang life behind, returning to a life of robberies and petty crime.
In July 1946 he was arrested on robbery charges and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
While behind bars, Moran got word that his old rival, Capone had died of a cardiac arrest after suffering a stroke.
Released in 1957, he was arrested again almost immediately on more robbery charges.
Moran, the last survivor of the St Valentine’s Day Massacre, died of lung cancer in prison just a few months into a 10-year prison sentence.
To this day, no charges have ever been brought against anyone involved in the St Valentine’s Day massacre.

The St Valentine’s Day Massacre And The Fall Of Bugs Moran
The day America witnessed the fall of Chicago’s most notorious Irish American gang.
