Before British settlement, the Lower North Shore was home to the Gorualgal (Mosman and southern Willoughby) and Cammeraygal (North Sydney and Eastern Lane Cove).
After the establishment of Sydney in 1788, settlement of the North Shore of the harbour was quite limited. One of the first settlers was James Milson who lived in the vicinity of Jeffrey Street in Kirribilli, directly opposite Sydney Cove. The north shore was more rugged than the southern shore and western areas of the harbour and had limited agricultural potential. The early activities in the area included tree felling, boatbuilding and some orchard farming in the limited areas of good soil. The North Shore railway line was built in the 1890s. Access to the Sydney CBD, located on the southern shore of the harbour remained difficult until the completion of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932. This led to commencement the development of suburbs on the North Shore.
The 1941 census had been postponed due to World War II, so the 1946 electoral redistribution had to take ten years of population growth and movements into account. The North Island gained a further two electorates from the South Island due to faster population growth. The abolition of the country quota through the Electoral Amendment Act, 1945 reduced the number and increased the size of rural electorates. None of the existing electorates remained unchanged, 27 electorates were abolished, eight former electorates were re-established, and 19 electorates were created for the first time, including North Shore.
The boundaries of the North Shore electorate were last adjusted for the first election held using the mixed-member proportional (MMP) voting system in 1996, when the number of general electorates decreased from 95 (1993) to 60 (1996), and the electorate expanded to the north into an area previously belonging to East Coast Bays. No boundary adjustments were undertaken in the subsequent redistributions in 2002, 2007, and 2013/14.
The North Shore neighborhood is situated between 67th Avenue East and 96th Avenue East. The neighborhood stretches from Brighton Beach northeast to McQuade Road; following both Congdon Boulevard (County 61 / Scenic 61) and the Minnesota 61 Expressway (MN 61).

The Sydney area has been inhabited by indigenous Australians since the Upper Paleolithic period. The first British settlers arrived in 1788 to found Sydney as a penal colony, the first European settlement in Australia. Since convict transportation ended in the mid-19th century, the city has transformed from a colonial outpost into a major global cultural and economic centre.
The population of Sydney at the time of the 2011 census was 4.39 million, 1.5 million of which were born overseas, representing many different nationalities and making Sydney one of the most multicultural cities in the world. There are more than 250 different languages spoken in Sydney and about one-third of residents speak a language other than English at home.
Sidney or Sydney is an English surname.
It is probably derived from an Anglo-Saxon locational name, [æt þǣre] sīdan īege = "[at the] wide island/watermeadow (in the dative case).
There is also a folk etymological derivation from the French place name Saint-Denis.
The name has also been used as a given name since the 19th century.
The republican Algernon Sidney (1623–1683) was a son of Robert Sidney, 2nd Earl of Leicester.
Henry Sidney (1641–1704), a son of Robert Sidney, 2nd Earl of Leicester, was created Baron Milton and Viscount Sidney in 1689 and Earl of Romney in 1694.
The Sydney 38 is a racing/cruising sailing yacht. It is one of the largest fleets of one-design oceangoing yachts in Australia. The yacht is manufactured by Sydney Yachts.

Nearly 300 trees illegally cut down in Sydney's lower north shore | ABC News
Another mass killing of trees has occurred in an area overlooking Sydney Harbour, in what the local council has described as the "worst act of environmental vandalism" in the area's history.
Almost 300 trees and plants have been illegally chopped down on public land next to harbour-front homes in the lower north shore suburb of Longueville, in the Lane Cove Council area.
The trees and shrubs, which range in sizes and species, including a number of large Sydney red gums, have been chainsawed and removed from the area without approval, leaving behind a barren tract of land along the waterfront.
