North Dakota (pronunciation: i/ˌnɔːrθdəˈkoʊtə/; locally[ˌno̞ɹθ dəˈko̞ɾə]) is the 39th state of the United States, having been admitted to the union on November 2, 1889.
North Dakota has weathered the Great Recession of the early 21st century with a boom in natural resources, particularly a boom in oil extraction from the Bakken formation, which lies beneath the northwestern part of the state. The development has driven strong job and population growth, and low unemployment.
Geography
North Dakota is located in the U.S. region known as the Great Plains. The state shares the Red River of the North with Minnesota on the east; South Dakota is to the south, Montana is to the west, and the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba are north. North Dakota is situated near the middle of North America with a stone marker in Rugby, North Dakota marking the "Geographic Center of the North American Continent". With an area of 70,762 square miles (183,273km2), North Dakota is the 19th largest state.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.68 square miles (4.35km2), of which, 1.65 square miles (4.27km2) is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08km2) is water.
Demographics
2010 census
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,878 people, 894 households, and 506 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,138.2 inhabitants per square mile (439.5/km2). There were 1,057 housing units at an average density of 640.6 per square mile (247.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.4% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.8% of the population.

Why North Dakota is VASTLY Emptier Than Montana
Why So Many Americans Move To Montana And Not North Dakota
Did you know that between 2021 and 2022, Montana saw a domestic net migration of over 16,000 people, resulting in a 1.5% change in population? In fact, when looking at percent population change, Montana is among the most popular states that people moved to in 2022. However, Montana’s neighbor to the east, North Dakota, saw a negative net migration between 2021 and 2022. That’s right, more people left this state than moved to it, resulting in a negative net migration of about 2,700 people and a percent population change of 0.2%. But why is this? After all, these states are geographically adjacent and have plenty of similarities.
Well, today on Across the Globe we’re going to be looking at why so many Americans move to Montana – b...

The United States has two Dakotas: North Dakota and South Dakota. But while these are two completely separate states each with their own state governments, two U.S. senators, and representative in Congress, there's nothing really all that natural or cultural that necessitated the area be split into two. Here's why the formerly single Dakota territory was split into two separate states.

The Dakotas
South Dakota and North Dakota, two northern plains states in these United States, but they are not as plain as you might assume.
Once part of the mighty Dakota Territory, one of the last areas of the country Americans settled, they split up, and today there is a mild rivalry between the two. People get them mixed up, although in this video I’m going to explain how they are quite different, despite sharing part of a name.
But first, what do they have in common? Well, other than being irregularly-shaped rectangles.
Both are about the same size, although South Dakota is a bit bigger. There’s also not a big difference between the population of the two states, although South Dakota has more people. Historically, their populations have rarely been far apart, with North Dakota’s population even surpassing South Dakota’s a few times. Currently, North Dakota is growing at a faster rate. Both don’t have a metro area that even gets near half a million people, which is why Minneapolis-St. Paul is pretty influential over both.
Both states are considered part of the Midwest. Most of the two states are made up of mostly prairie, part of what’s known as The Great Plains. Both have mostly continental climates, and generally the further west you go in each state, the drier it gets. For example, the annual precipitation in Fargo, North Dakota is 22.6 inches, while it’s 14.4 inches out west in Williston. It’s 26.3 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, while it’s 16.3 out west in Rapid City.
While both have four seasons, both have fairly mild summers and long, extremely cold winters. North Dakota does get a little colder in the winter being further north.
The Missouri River is the major river that runs through both states. Both are about as far from the ocean as you can get.
West of the Missouri River in both states, the land becomes much more rugged, with badlands and buttes.
Both are mostly rural states with lots of agriculture.
Residents of both states are younger, on average, than most of the country. (36.8 SD, 35 ND). Residents of both also tend to be Christian. 77% in North Dakota and 79% in South Dakota identify as such. And most residents in both are of European descent. The largest ethnic minority in both states today is American Indian.
Both states lean conservative politically, and reliably have voted for the Republican Party since the 1960s.
So how about those differences?
The poverty rate is lower in North Dakota (10.3%-13%). However, crime is a little lower in South Dakota. More North Dakota residents have college degrees. And the cost of living is generally higher in North Dakota.

Top 10 Reasons to move to North Dakota.
North Dakota is an often overlooked state. When people looking for a new state to relocate to, North Dakota is rarely on the top of anyone's list. I think it should be. They have a low cost of living, good air quality, great water quality, low taxes, and really low crime.
The water quality to me is a big deal like I said in the video if you search any location water and air quality is always near the top of the page. I searched Portland, Oregon and one of the first things that popped up was Lake Vancouver water quality.
North Dakota is a great place to live. Enjoy.

Well, today on Across the Globe we’re going to be looking at why so many Americans move to Montana – but not to North Dakota.

Did you know that North Dakota is the fourth least densely populated state in the whole country? While it has some beautiful national parks, a growing job market, and a pretty low cost of living, there are some less obvious signs why this state is home to so few. 10 Reasons Nobody Is Moving To North Dakota even though it has affordable real estate. That's right, buying a home in North Dakota is a doable thing but people still choose not to move to North Dakota.
Can you pick out North Dakota on a map with no text? Did you know only 37% of Americans can? What is odd about that is 44% of Canadians can. It’s not even in their country. Look at a United States map, I promise it is a US state.
But, they think it is ok to have potato chips that taste like catchup, so, they are all kinds of screwed up.
Today we are looking at the results of a survey we did where we listed 30 reasons why North Dakota isn’t a good place to live. These 30 reasons were reasons people most often gave when asked why they don’t like living in North Dakota.
Do you need a local Realtor for the area you want to move to?

North Dakota is known for being polite, but perhaps they’ve been a little too hospitable to oil companies.

Enjoy.

[Verse 1:] When I see your eyes. They show me everything. I ever needed to know. The only place I need to go. And when we are together. My whole world disappears. Along with all our fears. We are invincible. [Chorus:] Maybe we should get away. be ourselves, just the two of us. In your car, we'll drive til the road runs out. We can run forever. [Verse 2:] Hey and when we get there. We can find a cheap hotel. Where we can hide from the world. We can pretend that we're all alone. And no one else exists. the streets are ours tonight are ours tonight and no ones here to tell us what to do or tell us what we're not [Chorus:] Maybe we should get away. be ourselves, just the two of us. In your car we'll drive til the road runs out. We can run forever. Maybe we should get away. be ourselves, just the two of us. In your car we'll drive til the road runs out. We can run forever. [Bridge:] And we can be. Who we want to be. So everyone can see. Exactly what we mean. [Chorus:] Maybe we should get away. be ourselves, just the two of us. In your car we'll drive til the road runs out. We can run forever. Maybe we should get away. be ourselves, just the two of us. In your car we'll drive til the road runs out.
