Prehistorik 2: Full playthrough in HD
I found my DOSBOX in my folder and I decided to give my old games another go on it. I remember playing Prehistorik 2 in the early 2000's when I was still young. I loved this game since it had so many secret passages and its atmosphere was fun.
Another bonus is that the maps themselves are nice, vibrant, and colorful, unlike most of the co-op maps in Starcraft. Enjoy!

[HD 60fps] Prehistorik 2 (DOS) (Expert) - 100% Walkthrough - No Hit/No Damage Run
This is a new 100% complete walkthrough of Prehistorik 2 with no damages/no hit from beginning to end. The definition of no hit involves not getting hit by anything that causes losing hearts/bones. Hence, we have to avoid enemies and skull items that causes losing bones, and also not getting hit at all for the rest of the level after getting hang glider in some levels, which is easier said than done. Each levels are recorded individually using save states and compiled together to look like a full run, since doing it in single attempt is too difficult.
The most difficult part of this run is Level 3, Level 6, Level 7 and Level 9. Level 1 is easy and Level 2 is only difficult at the clip that requires luck and resets. Level 3 has way too many off-screen enemies that can end the run, not to m...

[HD 60fps] Prehistorik 2 (DOS) (Expert) - 100% Walkthrough - Collect All Items
This is a new 100% complete walkthrough of Prehistorik 2 of collecting every single items in the game from beginning to end while using the least amount of possible lives. The exhaustive list of items are small foods, big foods, lighters, on/off, spoon/fork/knife, skulls, grenades, bombs, weapons, BONUS letters and fridges, 1ups, bones in Level 9, hearts as well as hang gliders.
Aside from having to take damages to obtain the hearts, most of the level items can be taken normally. The skull item in Level 2 can be obtained by jumping higher using the bird. Level 2 lighter can also be taken without ending the level by jumping high with spider and fall behind the traffic light to proceed to bonus level, however you need to remember to collect the big food at traffic light first if aiming to ...

Level 3 has way too many off-screen enemies that can end the run, not to mention the skull items that can randomly appear when hitting the spots for foods and also from boss drops. Level 4 and 5 are still doable by being familiar with the level layout, but Level 6 really takes the cake for its brutal difficulty in boss fight. The leaves, snakes and the tree's fist make this fight extremely luck-based. I'd really recommend getting the flying blade in Level 4 while avoiding the axe in Level 5 if possible because Level 6 boss fight is near-impossible to clear without damage unless you get really really lucky. Here's a video of collecting the foods without picking up the axe in Level 6: https://youtu.be/TNQbsTgehxg
(Update: Another way can be seen in this video by speedylff which is more easier while still using the axe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORDeUygLNhE)
Level 7 is difficult with ice physics, but adding with no hit challenge and avoiding the skull item with perfect movement makes it more frustrating than it should be. Level 8 has a lot of enemies, but thankfully we got the flying blade which is best weapon in that level helping us to deal with them, but watch out for skull items appearing from hidden spots. Level 9 is quite difficult as it is and requires a lot a practice to master this level. Level 10 only needs to collect everything while avoiding the skull item, and the challenge is done.
After going through hours of frustration by just doing levels individually, its safe to say I won't be doing a single attempt no damage full run at any time soon. I'd also don't recommend you to try this without save states unless you have extreme patience and endurance.

For my Christmas special this year I thought I might as well do the sequel to Prehistorik. Why do I regard this as special ? Because it's one of the hardest and annoying games I've ever played on the DOS: harder than Dragon's Lair, harder than Adventure Island on NES and harder than the first Prehistorik ! You haven't seen anything until you've tried the sequel ! It's a combination of bad controls, cheap difficulty, annoying screen panning and bad password system. Yes, unlike the first one, it actually has passwords, but it doesn't make things any easier, because there's a pretty good chance you'll die before actually finding the damn password ! That's right, you don't get the password as soon as you start a new level - noooo - not like other games - you have to FIND it first ! First of all, the path that you take may not always lead to the password, so you might not find it at all ! Second, not all levels have the passwords in plain sight - some are hidden in the deepest, most distant corners of the level, often in sub-areas, where no one would ever think to go, so you have the choice of trying to find the password but risk dying in the process, or push on with the level, hoping you make it to the next one. But then good luck finding the password there ! Why couldn't the password be right at the beginning of the level ? What game gives you the password only after you've gone through half the level ? I can't imagine what there were thinking ! The controls aren't the worst I've experienced - they're certainly better than the first Prehistorik, but not by a whole lot. The attacking and jumping are way better: the caveman jumps higher, like you'd expect a character to jump in a platform game and the bat stays out long enough to hit your enemies, though there are still times when no matter how well you time it, the enemy will still hit you at least once ! You can also attack diagonally up or down by pressing the respective arrow keys, although to swing the bat upwards, you have to press the UP arrow key which is the same key used for jumping, so you could end up jumping right into the enemy you're trying to hit. You have to press UP slightly after you hit the space bar ! The no. 1 issue I have with this game is the way the camera moves ! Yes, the damn camera is your worst enemy ! Unlike other games, say Super Mario or Jazz Jackabbit, the screen doesn't follow the caveman continuously, so when you approach the side of the screen, the screen freezes for a split second and THEN pans over. It's similar to Kid-Kool on NES (watch a video of that to see what I'm talking about). It's hard to explain, but basically the camera pans way too slowly, causing nothing but trouble. It's especially problematic when you're trying to hop across small platforms: the camera doesn't pan fast enough, so there's no way you can land on an off-screen platform, because you can't see it until it's too late, which results in some cheap deaths. You shouldn't have to wait for the damn screen to pan ! The screen just does wherever the hell it wants - bottom line. Even the first Prehistorik game had smoother screen animations - not perfect, but playable. Not to mention, the screens had well defined boundaries, so you couldn't stand in-between two screens - the camera was either on one screen or on the other, it never had to constantly reorient when the character approached the edge ! With all these factors combined, the game is challenging, but in a cheap way ! It may not seem so bad in the first stages, but once you reach around level 4, GOD DAMN ! The frustration comes out full-fu**in'-force ! You only get 3 hitpoints, meaning you can only get hit 3 times. The fourth hit kills you and you lose a life. Once you lose all of them, it's game over, so hopefully you have a password or you're screwed - you're doing it all over again ! There are also a lot of instant death hazards, like spikes, and let me tell you, this game got really carried away with that, especially in the last level: there's spikes on the floor, spikes on the walls, spikes on the ceiling, there's spikes EVERYWHERE - you get annihilated ! There's no way you can be expected to make it through in one piece with no cheats ! On top of that, add a truckload of enemies that pop out of nowhere because of the shitty screen movement and you're in for a mind-fuck ! End of story ! For the video, I used a trainer that keeps you from losing hitpoints or lives, but that still meant it took me all day to get through the last castle ! Can you imagine beating this game with just 3 lousy hitpoints ? If you did, then congratulations, because you have an amazing level of patience and pain-tolerance ! Not a bad game overall, but the difficulty is crazy high ! Danny out.

Level 2 lighter can also be taken without ending the level by jumping high with spider and fall behind the traffic light to proceed to bonus level, however you need to remember to collect the big food at traffic light first if aiming to collect all items. Level 3 takes a longer route since I want to avoid touching the "off" item until later. And for Level 5, a lot of damages are needed, and don't forget to make sure you don't have full health before taking the glider, as there is one heart under the bridge that can only be collected using glider. Level 7 is also extremely frustrating using the axe at the icy place near the leopard, hence the item is obtained last which the longer route is much easier than using the axe to deal with bears and spiders while climbing the mountain. Level 8 has to sacrifice 1 life to obtain the furthest heart at the lighter place, since the ice is too slippery to jump back to platform, but the item counting at the end of the level is not affected as long as you don't collect anything before obtaining the heart.
At the time of making this video, it was thought that the heart at Level 3 pig section cannot be collected because you enter the section with full health restored and there's no enemies or skulls in the section. Turns out the heart has a odd property that not only you can collect them by damaging, you can also collect them by standing at the heart and press F1 key to suicide to obtain them, credits to speedylff for the info. Now, this means a minimum of 2 lives are needed to collect everything in the game. However, this means the collection from previous section of level 3 will be lost at the end of level unfortunately since anything collected before losing lives is not counted at the end of the level. With this and no damage video, I think I have covered most of the videos for Prehistorik 2 and pretty much done with the game, but feel free to comment and suggest any ideas or solutions and I might do some more videos for distant future. But for now, I'm taking a break from this game.
