The name Kyle has been used for three tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean since 1996, the year in which Kyle replaced Klaus on the rotating six-year cycle of names used in the North Atlantic basin.
Tropical Storm Kyle (1996) – formed in the western Caribbean and made landfall over Guatemala and Honduras as a weakening storm, causing no significant damage.
Hurricane Kyle (2002) – fourth longest-lived Atlantic storm, bobbed in and out of the Carolinas, causing $5million damage, mostly from tornadoes.
Hurricane Kyle (2008) – formed north of Hispaniola and made landfall in Nova Scotia as a minimal hurricane.
The name Kyle has also been used for two tropical cyclones in the Western Pacific Ocean.
The 1996 Atlantic hurricane season had the most major hurricanes since 1964, which are Category3 or higher on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale. Featuring a total of thirteen named storms, nine hurricanes, and six major hurricanes, the season officially began on June1, 1996, and ended on November30, 1996, dates which conventionally delimit the period of each year when most tropical cyclones form in the Atlantic basin. The season's first tropical cyclone, Tropical Storm Arthur, developed on June17, while the final cyclone, Hurricane Marco dissipated on November26. The most intense hurricane, Edouard, was a powerful Cape Verde-type hurricane that affected portions of the Mid-Atlantic states and New England. The season featured nine tropical cyclone landfalls, including six hurricanes, one of which was a major hurricane. In total, six major hurricanes formed during the 1996Atlantic hurricane season—the highest number produced in a single season since 1964.
Hurricane Kyle was the eleventh tropical storm and sixth hurricane of the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season. It formed from a strong tropical disturbance that tracked across the northeastern Caribbean Sea in the third week of September. As a low pressure area, it moved slowly across Puerto Rico and Hispaniola, dumping torrential rains across those islands.
By September24, it began to track northward away from the islands, and developed enough strong thunderstorm activity near its center and a well-defined enough circulation to be deemed a tropical storm on September25. It strengthened to a hurricane on September27 west of Bermuda. It made landfall in Nova Scotia as a Category 1 hurricane late on September 28, then became extratropical shortly afterward.
The precursor to Kyle produced torrential rainfall over Puerto Rico, resulting in six fatalities and $48million in damages. Little impact was recorded in Hispanola and Bermuda as the system tracked northward. Along the eastern United States, rough seas resulted in two fatalities and as the storm made landfall in Canada, heavy rains fell in eastern Maine. In Canada, Kyle had relatively little impact, leaving $9million in damages and no fatalities.

The 1996 Atlantic Hurricane Season was an a bit above average season in terms of storm count, but had a lot of major hurricanes and some had struck land. Fran was the costliest of the season and Cesar being the most deadly, which were retired and replaced with Fay and Cristobal respectively. Hortense also was retired that year and replaced with Hanna
