Tricycle gear is a type of aircraftundercarriage, or landing gear, arranged in a tricycle fashion. The tricycle arrangement has one wheel in the front, called the nose wheel, and two or more main wheels slightly aft of the center of gravity. Because of the ease of operating tricycle gear aircraft on the ground, the configuration is the most widely used on aircraft.
Tricycle gear is essentially the reverse of conventional landing gear or taildragger. On the ground, tricycle aircraft have a visibility advantage for the pilot as the nose of the aircraft is level, whereas the high nose of the taildragger can block the view ahead. Tricycle gear aircraft are much less liable to 'nose over' as can happen if a taildragger hits a bump or has the brakes heavily applied. In a nose-over, the aircraft's tail rises and the propeller strikes the ground, causing damage. The tricycle layout reduces the possibility of a ground loop, because the main gear lies behind the center of mass. However, tricycle aircraft can be susceptible to wheel-barrowing. The nosewheel equipped aircraft also is easier to handle on the ground in high winds due to its wing negative angle of attack. Student pilots are able to safely master nosewheel equipped aircraft more quickly.

Tipe Roda Pesawat Terbang, Taildragger vs Tricycle Landing Gear
Bagi pesawat sayap tetap (fixed wing), keberadaan roda pendaratan (landing gear) adalah sebuah keharusan. Pasalnya roda pendaratan memainkan peran penting saat pesawat melakukan lepas landas dan mendarat.
Sebagaimana yang kita ketahui bahwa fase lepas landas dan mendarat merupakan fase yang sangat penting bagi sebuah pesawat, untuk itu diperlukan suatu mekanisme roda pendaratan yang mampu menahan bobot pesawat yang mencapai puluhan hingga ratusan ton.
Ada 2 tipe roda pendaratan yang umum digunakan pada pesawat terbang sayap tetap, yaitu taildragger landing gear dan tricycle landing gear. Apa perbedaan keduanya? Mari simak pembahasan selengkapnya.

Balsa wood wind-up airplanes usually have two wheels in the front and skid on the tail. This conversion uses three wheels. Tricycle landing gear appears on many planes, like the Cessna 172, the most successful mass produced light aircraft in history. On the model, keep the rear wheels as far forward as possible, just on the brink of teetering back onto the tail, on this one the bracket is 2 3/4" back from the front of the fuselage. You may need to add a small weight, like modeling clay, behind the propeller to balance the plane. It should balance about 1/4 the distance back from the leading edge of the wing, between the leading and trailing edges.
