Joan of Arc (French:Jeanne d'Arc,IPA:[ʒan daʁk]; 6 January c. 1412– 30 May 1431), nicknamed "The Maid of Orléans" (French:La Pucelle d'Orléans) is considered a heroine of France for her role during the Lancastrian phase of the Hundred Years' War, and was canonized as a Roman Catholic saint. Joan of Arc was born to Jacques d'Arc and Isabelle, a peasant family, at Domrémy in north-east France. Joan said she received visions of the ArchangelMichael, Saint Margaret, and Saint Catherine instructing her to support Charles VII and recover France from English domination late in the Hundred Years' War. The uncrowned King Charles VII sent Joan to the siege of Orléans as part of a relief mission. She gained prominence after the siege was lifted only nine days later. Several additional swift victories led to Charles VII's coronation at Reims. This long-awaited event boosted French morale and paved the way for the final French victory.
On 23 May 1430, she was captured at Compiègne by the Burgundian faction which was allied with the English. She was later handed over to the English, and then put on trial by the pro-English Bishop of Beauvais Pierre Cauchon on a variety of charges. After Cauchon declared her guilty she was burned at the stake on 30 May 1431, dying at about nineteen years of age.
Joan of Arc is a 2006 album by mimimalist composer Tony Conrad. The piece, which lasts unbroken for over an hour, was originally written by Conrad as a soundtrack to accompany Piero Heliczer's like-named short film.
Track listing
"Joan of Arc" - 64:31
Overview
Joan of Arc is something of a stylistic departure for Conrad, who is best known for his work with minimalist violin, exemplified by his most famous album Outside the Dream Syndicate. Joan of Arc instead showcases Conrad's improvisational technique on the pump organ.
The album is one of a series of lost-and-found minimalist recordings released by the independent label Table of the Elements. Conrad originally recorded the piece in 1968 for the soundtrack to Piero Heliczar's 11 minute short film Joan of Arc. However, he was not aware of the length of the film, so he played continuously for the length of an entire reel-to-reel tape in the hope that it would be enough for Heliczar.
Joan of Arc is an outdoor equestrian statue installed in Coe Circle, at the intersection of Northeast 39th and Glisan, in Portland's Laurelhurst neighborhood. The sculpture is one of several copies of Emmanuel Frémiet's 1874 gilded bronze statue, Jeanne d'Arc, which is installed at the Place des Pyramides in Paris. Portland's statue is also made of bronze and measures approximately 12 feet (3.7m) x 5.5 feet (1.7m) x 9 feet (2.7m). The flag held by Joan of Arc is made of copper. The statue rests on a granite base that measures approximately 8 feet (2.4m) x 3 feet (0.91m) x 9 feet (2.7m).
Clark is the official team mascot of Major League Baseball's Chicago Cubs. He was announced on January 13, 2014 as the first official mascot in the modern history of the Cubs franchise. He was introduced that day at the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center's pediatric developmental center along with some of the Cubs' top prospects such as number one draft pickKris Bryant and Albert Almora, Jorge Soler, Mike Olt and Eric Jokisch. Over a dozen Cubs prospects were attending the Cubs' Rookie Development Program that week. The Cubs become the 27th team in Major League Baseball to have a mascot, leaving the Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees as the remaining franchises without mascots. According to the Cubs' press release, Clark is a response to fan demands (expressed via surveys and interviews) for more kid-friendly elements at Wrigley Field Cubs games to keep pace with games in other cities that have more to offer youth fans.
Description
He is a "young, friendly Cub" who will wear a backwards baseball cap and greet fans entering Wrigley Field, which is located at the corner of Clark Street (for which he is named) and Addison Street. North Clark Street borders the third base side of Wrigley Field. According to the Cubs, the fictional character Clark is descended from Joa, the franchise's original live Bears mascot in 1916.
The band was formed in Ottawa in 1999 by John Tielli who sang, played guitar and composed.
Initially named simply "Clark", the group found this problematic due to other groups being identically or similarly named. It was decided that using the name "CLARK the band" would help to alleviate the issue.
The group's roster changed throughout its existence with Tielli being the only consistent member. Primary members also included Matt Gagnon on bass and vocals, Mike Dubue on keyboards and vocals, Philip Shaw Bova on drums, Andrew McCormack on drums, Jeremy Gara on drums, Tim Kingsbury on bass and vocals, Vish Khanna on drums, Robin Buckley on drums, Dan Neill on drums, vocals and keyboards, Ryan Myshrall on bass, Jordy Walker on drums and Corwin Fox on bass and vocals.
The group disbanded in 2007. Tielli has since moved to Toronto and formed the group Metal Kites.

Joan's story almost feels like a novel instead of a part of history. She was a shining savior on a warhorse, waving her white banner and calling her soldiers forth to victory; but she was also painfully and intensely human, a young girl who wept and bled just the same as the rest of us. In the same breath, it is as easy to relate to Joan as it is to be awed by her incredible character.
She may have been beatified as a saint, but Joan of Arc was in many ways a very ordinary human being, a person who felt pain and fear, a person who made mistakes and who had moments of weakness. This book follows her through her extraordinary journey. Feel her terror as she first experienced her visions. See her determination as she convinced a cynical captain to grant her passage to the Dauphin. Experience her exhilaration and faith as she led the French army to victory after victory. Weep alongside her as the King of France betrayed her. Suffer with her during her long imprisonment in the hands of her enemies. And cry with the witnesses who saw her burn for a crime she did not commit.

Joan of Arc was on a mission from God, during her siege of Orleans. However, nothing could have prepared Joan for being captured and sold out to the English. As Bishop Pierre Cauchon was determined to prove the inaccuracy of her visions and her motivations so that Charles could have no claim to the throne. But Joan held on till the bitter end.

She’s one of history’s youngest warriors. At an age when most of us were still stressing over what to wear to school, Joan of Arc was leading thousands of French troops into battle against the English. Supposedly inspired by divine visions of Catholicism’s greatest saints, Joan first took up her sword at 16, was leading armies by 17, and was burned at the stake before she was 20. In her short life, she managed to change the course of the Hundred Years’ War, ending English domination of France. Not bad for an illiterate girl from the sticks.
But while most of us know the name Joan of Arc and know her tragic end, how much do we know about her life? Join us today as we take a look at the simple peasant girl who changed European history, before dying alone and disgraced, convinced she was a failure.

#ExtraHistory #JoanofArc #History
