A book by the same name written by Palin was published to accompany the series. This book contained both Palin's text and many pictures by Basil Pao, the stills photographer on the team. Basil Pao also produced a separate book of the photographs he took during the journey, Inside Sahara, a large coffee-table style book printed on glossy paper.
Sahara is a Bollywoodfilm. It was released in 1943. The film is directed by Jagatrai Pesumal Advani for Vaswani Art productions. It had music composed by Gobind Ram. The film starred Renuka Devi, Narang, Pran, Meena Shorey and Sharda
The film's tagline is "She challenged the desert, its men, their passions and ignited a bold adventure."

Synopsis
Orphaned Leela (Meena Kumari) lives with her cruel aunt, Rangilibai (Leela Mishra); cousin, Kaushalya (Kammo); and uncle Vikram Singh (Badri Prasad). When Rangilibai arranges Kaushalya's marriage to Chhote Thakur (M. Rajan), the son of a wealthy landlord, Leela agrees to go with her as a maid as part of her dowry. But things change when the landlord rejects Kaushalya and decides to marry Leela. After marriage, Leela is accused of having a lover and is thrown out of home by her husband, who later understands his mistake as he was misled by his sister. Leela goes to Rangilibai's house, but she firmly refuses to accept her. Alone and desperate, Leela meets a distant relative named Gaman Singh (Kanhaiyalal). He takes her in to live with him and his wife, Swarupbai (Kuldip Kaur). When Leela refuses Swarupbai's demand to beg for alms, the latter blinds her with special eye-drops. Having lost her vision, a blinded Leela is led daily through the streets and is forced to sit near the steps of a temple singing and begging for alms. Soon Leela develops a loving mother-son relationship with another beggar of Swarupbai, a boy named Panna (Daisy Irani). This relationship carries the narrative forward.

(Carly Simon/Mike Mainieri) I was in the desert Amazed by all that sand I as in a sea of white Swimming through the land Nobody shocked me Nobody locked me up Nobody took my time Nobody shook me up All that happened was the white night The endless sand in the moonlight I was in the desert In the opalescent moon Watching the horizon And waiting for the moon Nobody talked to me Nobody looked me up Nobody walked up to me Nobody shook me up All that happened was the white night The endless sand in the moonlight I was in the desert Free to live or die Looking in the mirror And seeing just the sky Nobody got to me Nobody said what to me Nobody shoved me Nobody loved me All that happened was the white night
