Momus (/ˈmoʊməs/; Greek: ΜῶμοςMomos) was in Greek mythology the personification of satire and mockery, two stories about whom figure among Aesop’s Fables. During the Renaissance, several literary works used him as a mouthpiece for their criticism of tyranny, while others later made him a critic of contemporary society. Onstage he finally became the figure of harmless fun.
In classical literature
As a sharp-tongued spirit of unfair criticism, Momus was eventually expelled from the company of the gods on Mount Olympus. His name is related to μομφή, meaning 'blame', 'reproach', or 'disgrace'.Hesiod said that Momus was a son of Night (Nyx), “though she lay with none”, and the twin of the misery goddess Oizys. In the 8th century BCE epic Cypria, Momus was credited with stirring up the Trojan War in order to reduce the human population.Sophocles wrote a later satyr play called Momos, now almost entirely lost, which may have derived from this.
Two of Aesop's fables feature the god. The most widely reported of these in Classical times is numbered 100 in the Perry Index. There Momus is asked to judge the handiwork of three gods (who vary depending on the version): a man, a house and a bull. He found all at fault: the man because his heart was not on view to judge his thoughts; the house because it had no wheels so as to avoid troublesome neighbours; and the bull because it did not have eyes in its horns to guide it when charging. Because of it, Plutarch and Aristotle criticized Aesop’s story-telling as deficient in understanding, while Lucian insisted that anyone with sense was able to sound out a man’s thoughts.
"Beethoven (I Love to Listen To)" is a song by the British pop music duo Eurythmics, released as the first single (in the UK) from their 1987 album, Savage.
Background
Writing
It was written by group members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart. Although not released as a single in the United States, the track appeared as a double A-side of the 12 inch single for "I Need a Man", and received heavy rotation on MTV. It was a Top 20 hit in several European territories and also in Australia.
Style
The Savage album returned Eurythmics to a more electronic sound and the "Beethoven" vocals are performed mostly as spoken-word from Lennox, with the exception of the repeated phrase "I love to" throughout the track.

Beethoven is a dog, who was first discovered by Emily Newton in her bedroom one morning. The whole family is soon introduced to the St. Bernard; however, the father George Newton has his moments with Beethoven, who ends up into different mishaps time after time. When not with the Newton family, Beethoven interacts with his puppies, or with animals outside of the house.
Unlike the movie, Beethoven could talk, at least among the other animals; incidentally he would also talk in the 2011 direct-to-video film, Beethoven's Christmas Adventure. The same plot was used in another animated series Free Willy, where the main character also could talk. Some of the music was used for the DIC cartoon, What-a-Mess.
Union J is the self-titled debut studio album by English boy bandUnion J. It was released in the United Kingdom on 28 October 2013 through RCA Records, and debuted at number six on the UK Albums Chart.
"Carry You" was released as the album's first single in June 2013 and reached number-six in the United Kingdom, marking the group's first top ten track. In September 2013, the band confirmed their second single would be "Beautiful Life". It was released on 21 October, preceding the release of their debut studio-album by one week. The third single was "Loving You Is Easy" which charted at number 9 in Ireland, and charted in the lower regions of the UK Singles Chart.
Union J promoted the album by embarking on their first headlining tour, the Magazines + TV Screens Tour, throughout December 2013 and January 2014, in support of their first record release.
Background and production
During a performance in Cardiff on 15 December 2012, Union J announced that they had signed a recording contract with Sony Music. On 28 January 2013, it was revealed that the record label was that of sub-division RCA Records and that the group would be releasing their debut single in June. On 14 January, it was announced that Union J were in London recording their debut single that day. On 12 January 2013, the band announced news of recording their debut single via Twitter: "Recording or first single on Monday! So sorry Belfast but we have to change the gig date, things are moving so fast for us! We'll be back! X". On 22 April, it was revealed that Union J's debut single "Carry You" would be released on 2 June.
A symphony is an extended musical composition in Western classical music, most often written by composers for orchestra. Although the term has had many meanings from its origins in the ancient Greek era, by the late 18th century the word had taken on the meaning common today: a work usually consisting of multiple distinct sections or movements, often four, with the first movement in sonata form. Symphonies are scored for string (violin, viola, cello and double bass), brass, woodwind, and percussioninstruments which altogether number about 30–100 musicians. Symphonies are notated in a musical score, which contains all the instrument parts. Orchestral musicians play from parts which contain just the notated music for their instrument. A small number of symphonies also contain vocal parts (e.g., Beethoven's Ninth Symphony).
Origins
The word symphony is derived from Greekσυμφωνία (symphonia), meaning "agreement or concord of sound", "concert of vocal or instrumental music", from σύμφωνος (symphōnos), "harmonious". The word referred to an astonishing variety of different things, before ultimately settling on its current meaning designating a musical form.
The track was released as the U.S. iTunes "Single of the Week" for the week of December 28, 2009, and the video was released on iTunes for free for the week of March 15, 2010. A remix of the song was recorded with Kid Cudi, and was released as a bonus track in the United States.
The track has also been used in the "A More Exciting Place to Live" ad campaign by Virgin Media in the UK. It was also used in 2010 comedy film Easy A and used on the NBA 2K11 soundtrack.
Conception and production
In 2008, Black originally recorded a song called "HYPNTZ", which interpolated lyrics from The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Hypnotize" and sampled the drum beat from Rihanna's "Umbrella". However, the night before the video was shot, Wallace's estate informed Black of its objection to the song. Black reworked new lyrics for the song and added vocals, retitling it "Symphonies".
The musical works of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827) are classified by both genre and various numbering systems.
The most common methods of numbering Beethoven's works are by opus number, assigned by Beethoven's publishers during his lifetime, and by number within genre. For example, the 14th string quartet, published as Opus 131, may be referenced either as "String Quartet No. 14" or "the Opus 131 String Quartet".
Many works that were unpublished or else published without opus numbers have been assigned either "WoO" (works without opus number) or "Anh" (appendix) numbers. For example, the short piano piece "Für Elise", is more fully known as the "Bagatelle in A minor, WoO 59 ('Für Elise')". Some works are also commonly referred to by their nicknames, such as the 'Kreutzer' Violin Sonata, or the Eroica Symphony.
The listings include all of these relevant identifiers. While other catalogues of Beethoven's works exist, the numbers here represent the most commonly used and widely known. Years in parentheses denote dates of composition or publication.
