Nuremberg trials: Benjamin Ferencz’s battle for justice | DW Documentary
Benjamin Ferencz, the last surviving chief prosecutor from the Nuremberg Trials, died April 2023, aged 103. In commemoration of his long and eventful life, Deutsche Welle is broadcasting the documentary: "A Man Can Make a Difference”.
He came to Germany as a young American soldier and lawyer immediately after the liberation of the concentration camps, to secure documents on the crimes committed there. In doing so, he came upon detailed files of the so-called "Einsatzgruppen", or "task forces," essentially death squads, and thus became chief prosecutor at one of the subsequent Nuremberg trials of 22 SS commanders. A Harvard graduate, he devoted his further life to the idea of an international criminal court, which he had already demanded in Nuremberg. In 2002 the idea finally became realit...

Nazis on trial | DW Documentary
The Nuremberg trials began 75 years ago, as high-ranking Nazis were held accountable on the basis of international law. A look back by a Holocaust survivor, by the son of Hitler's deputy in occupied Poland and by the daughter of a defense lawyer.

The RUTHLESS Executions Of The Nuremberg Trials - Full WW2 Documentary
Following the Second World War, there was a high profile war crimes trial that sentenced to death the final members of Hitler's Nazi government. The Nuremberg Trials saw Hermann Göring, Rudolf Hess and the last remaining members of Hitler's hierarchy accused of war crimes trials, crimes against humanity and being responsible for the horrors of the concentration camps. But the Nuremberg executions did not go well at all, as they were botched by the American executioner John C Woods.
The Nuremberg executions condemned the men who were responsible for the Second World War to death, but a number were performed poorly. The trapdoor was too small, and also the executioner was considered brutal. However in this video, we look at the stories of the condemned defendants and what they did during t...

Nazi war criminals are sentenced to death at the Nuremberg Trials - Daily Mail
Photographs have emerged showing Nazi generals, admirals and field marshals (pictured bottom) being kept at British POW camp Island Farm in Bridgend ahead of the Nuremberg trials. They included many of Hitler's key aides, such as First World War veteran Gerd von Rundstedt (pictured top being saluted by fellow prisoners), the commander-in-chief of the German Army in Western Europe, who was respected by British and German troops alike for his military service, although he was accused of committing war crimes in Ukraine. Island Farm was also the scene of the 'Forgotten Great Escape' on March 10, 1945, when 86 prisoners got out through a 70ft tunnel dug under Hut 9, the only surviving building at the site today. The collection of photographs and official documents will now go on auction and co...

Germany started the second world war when it invaded Poland and eventually attacked over a dozen countries throughout the continent. But by 1943, the tide of war had turned: The Soviet Union had pushed back at Moscow, Sint Petersburg, and Stalingrad. While the British had beaten back the German air raids and pushed the Axis powers out of Africa.
So the leaders of the major allied powers came together to discuss the state of the world after the WW2 had ended. Stalin of the Soviet Union, Roosevelt of the USA, and Churchill of the United Kingdom discussed creating the United Nations, the D-Day invasion, and dividing Germany up into 4 occupation zones. Because Germany. Will. be. Divided. But that was not all. Over the course of World War 2, it became apparent to the Allied forces that Germany committed atrocities on a massive scale. The night raids, the forced deportations, the mass genocide. There was only 1 question on everybody’s minds: how do you punish acts so evil?

In 2002 the idea finally became reality, with the establishment of the International Criminal Court in the Hague. In this documentary, with precise analysis, Ferencz presents the history of a century that ushered humanity into the greatest disasters, but also the boldest hopes for a more just world. Director Ullabritt Horn accompanies her energetic and life-loving protagonist to appearances in Washington, New York City, Frankfurt and Nuremberg, and also interviews his colleagues and friends.

The Nuremberg trials began 75 years ago, as high-ranking Nazis were held accountable on the basis of international law. A look back by a Holocaust survivor, by the son of Hitler's deputy in occupied Poland and by the daughter of a defense lawyer.
In the final days of World War II, Adolf Hitler and his Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels committed suicide. But Hermann Göring, the Supreme Commander of the Luftwaffe, and other high-ranking Nazis were captured by the Allies and put on trial. The four wartime allied powers - the US, Britain, France and the Soviet Union - had already agreed to do this before hostilities ceased. As the first international tribunal to hold leading representatives of a state personally accountable for crimes under international law, the Nuremberg trials were groundbreaking in legal terms. But they also raised moral issues which rattled many Germans to their core. Niklas Frank had to come to terms with the fact that his father, Hans Frank, was going to be executed. Holocaust survivor Peter Gardosch mainly felt a sense of gratification. Renate Rönn - whose father was assigned to serve as a defense counsel - felt a sense of shame that Germans had committed such crimes, and that it was the Allies who ensured that justice was served, not the Germans themselves. Today, the Nuremberg trials are viewed as a milestone in international law that served as a model for the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Bettina Stehkämper speaks with Niklas Frank, Peter Gardosch and Renate Rönn about the proceedings and how the trials impacted their lives.

However in this video, we look at the stories of the condemned defendants and what they did during the Second World War and what they were guilty of.

The collection of photographs and official documents will now go on auction and could fetch around £5,000.
