The Truth About The "Dark Ages"
The Middle Ages was a 1,000 year time period that doesn't neatly fit into one box. Yet it's a popular misconception today that the entire era was a "Dark Age", where Europe regressed scientifically and wallowed in poverty. However, there's a problem - this is a complete myth! No actual historian uses the term "Dark Ages". It's a pop culture misnomer that's been used to mischaracterize the time between the Fall of Rome and the Renaissance. So what was the real story of the Middle Ages? In this documentary on Pax Tube, I shine light on the truth.

The Dark Ages...How Dark Were They, Really?: Crash Course World History #14
John Green teaches you about the so-called Dark Ages, which it turns out weren't as uniformly dark as you may have been led to believe. While Europe was indeed having some issues, many other parts of the world were thriving and relatively enlightened. John covers European Feudalism, the cultural blossoming of the Islamic world, and the scientific and artistic advances in China, all during these "Dark Ages." Along the way, John will raise questions about the validity of Europe's status as a continent, reveal the best and worst years of his life, and frankly state that science and religion were once able to coexist.

Were the Dark Ages Really That Dark?
Every amateur historian knows the term "Dark Ages." It conjures up images of political upheaval, filthy living conditions, and widespread ignorance. But were the Dark Ages really dark? Not so much. Throughout the Mediterranean, into Europe and the British Isles, and from the expanse of the Byzantine Empire, the period from roughly 300 CE to about 1500 CE brought plenty of beauty and wisdom to the world.

Dark Ages is the 6th area encountered in Alternate UniverZ. It takes place in a medieval village about 100 years before the creation of the Holy Roman Empire.
Since the setting of this area is night-time, sun does not fall from the sky, which makes mushrooms more beneficial to use with them being stronger during the night. Aside from that, the area's main gimmick are tombstones. Just like the ones in Ancient Egypt, they are obstacles that block projectiles, absorbing 700 damage. However, they can now occasionally spawn by themselves, and have two other variants of itself marked with a sun and Plant Food, which spawn 50 sun or a Plant Food when destroyed res...

Why You Wouldn't Last 24 Hours in The Dark Ages....
Many people look at the Middle Ages through romantic eyes. They think about “armoured knights on lumbering steeds”, beautiful damsels in pointy hats, dragons, chivalry, and courtly love. Nothing could be further from the truth. For most people, the Middle Ages were dirty, difficult, and really dangerous. Let’s find out now why it was unlikely that you could stay alive and prosper and why you were likely to die quite quickly during that time. Welcome to Medieval Madness.

However, they can now occasionally spawn by themselves, and have two other variants of itself marked with a sun and Plant Food, which spawn 50 sun or a Plant Food when destroyed respectively.
In Dark Ages, there is sometimes dark sorcery. There will be a warning saying "Necromancy!", and various zombies will rise up onto the ground from tombstones.
