Curators' Tour of Silk Roads exhibition at the British Museum
Rather than a single trade route between ‘East’ and ‘West’ the Silk Roads were an overlapping network that connected Asia, Africa and Europe. Today, with the help of curators Sue Brunning, Luk Yu-ping, Elisabeth O'Connell and Zumrad Ilyasova, you will journey along the networks of the Silk Roads, following in the footsteps of the people and objects that used them between 500-1000 CE.

258 years of the British Museum
The British Museum opened its doors to visitors 258 years ago this month, on 15 January 1759. The first national public museum in the world, it was – and still is – open to ‘all studious and curious persons’.
To celebrate the anniversary, Director Hartwig Fischer talks about the people who come to the Museum today, and the people who are represented in the collection. At first, the Museum had around 50 visitors a day. Now there are around 15,000 people in the Museum every day, plus half a million who engage online through the website and social media. The conversation has become global – fitting for a museum of the world, for the world.

INSIDE THE BRITISH MUSEUM LONDON
Let's see what all the fuss is about at the world famous British Museum here in London. A number of artefacts have a lot of controversy around them, due to the reason of how and why Britain has ownership of these items. Two of the most debated are the Rosetta Stone and Hoa Hakananai'a... both taken or traded to gain ownership and transported here to London. Where do you think these items should really live?
Thanks for watching, let me know you enjoyed it with subscribing and also give it a thumbs up 👍🏻 💕💌

The Babylonian Map of the World with Irving Finkel | Curator’s Corner S9 Ep5
The Babylonian map of the world is the oldest map of the world, in the world. Written and inscribed on clay in Mesopotamia around 2,900-years-ago, it is, like so many cuneiform tablets, incomplete. However, Irving Finkel and a particularly gifted student of his - Edith Horsley - managed to locate a missing piece of the map, slot it back into the cuneiform tablet, and from there set us all on journey through the somewhat mythical landscape of Mesopotamia to find the final resting place of the ark. And yes we mean that ark, as in Noah's ark. Although in the earlier Mesopotamian version of the flood story, the ark is built by Ziusudra.

Should the British Museum Return Looted Objects? I The Unfiltered History Tour
Some say the British Museum is the world’s largest receiver of stolen goods. Given that there’s at least 8 million objects in its collection, that’s a lot of potentially looted pieces.
Designed to be experienced in or outside the museum, The Unfiltered History Tour tells the stories of ten objects from the perspectives of the communities that they were removed from. Take a tour at the Museum, using Instagram filters. Or listen to immersive audio episodes, wherever you are.

Presented in collaboration with Akademi & The Motion Dance Collective, this spellbinding performance took place in the Sir Joseph Hotung Gallery of the British Museum on the evening 15 November 2019 to a live audience of over 1000 audience members. Devised in response to the Museum's South Asia collection, it brought the objects to life and charged them with the life-force they were created to hold.
Following the galleries prolonged closure since March 2020, we are premiering this video to celebrate South Asia Heritage Month 2021. We hope you enjoy.
