He recently garnered national attention for his first place award at the annual SMU Talent Show by pioneering the art of "musical eating" with the MaKey MaKey - a new device given to him by the MIT Media Labs designed to turn anything into an input device. Christian is on a mission to inspire the world to learn to program, and was recently featured at the fourth annual TEDxSMU, the first Social Science series at the Dallas Perot Museum, and at local area high schools to convince Dallasites to do just that. Robert Gardner talks about his profitable junior silver mining company with assets in Mexico, home of some of the largest silver deposits in the world and how listing on the TSE is a significant opportunity for the company.
"Genco's in the silver business is a producing silver mining company. It's a publicly listed company on the full Toronto exchange and that is what is new recently. We've graduated from the TSX junior to the TSE, as I like to call it. We have a mine, a producing mine down in the La Guitarra area down in Mexico. We have one mine which will become several mines. They will become several underground mines and open-pit mines.
We have 41,000 hectares of land which involves several communities, several
villages and we are contiguous throughout and this is in a very rich silver-gold area in the Sierra Madre about three hours, four hours south-west of Mexico City. We have decided to increase our reserves by making sure we have the reserves, so we've had a very strong drilling program for the last two years. Now we're doing in infill drilling to make sure that we have enough facts for the feasibility study which we hope to have ready with Kappas Cassidy around about August of this year, which means that very soon we'll have a new reserve of resources or reserves which we hope to have out and about maybe a month and we expect to have an increase in all categories.
If you're going to have open-pit mining, if you're going to have mills and so on you need proper access you need surface rights. So we've been negotiating those surface rights and we're at midway through that and we've been very successful. We have very good relationships with our communities and we're starting building the mill as of the beginning of this next year or the end of this year so that's significant. So in the meantime, we've been talking to the financial community we've had positive feedback because they know where they can identify us. To be on the main exchange as opposed to on the junior exchange is significant because your financial community can look at you in a different way. You qualify for many more as it were portfolios you're considered to be graduated, you're considered to be mature, you're considered to be you become a liquid-liquid item and that's significant when you're trying to raise money and when you're when you're looked at, reviewed in the market. We've also got rid of a three and a half percent royalty to Panoz which we negotiate it out because we consider that area is going to be a profitable area to us so that goes straight to our bottom line we've been hiring staff we have the advantage because we're already in production we've been hiring really good management we, for instance, we've had a manager from Gold Corp., excellent and Greg Miller our president is really, really good in that area has huge experience. CFO Wayne Morehouse is very hands-on, almost COO style and these people all speak Spanish and we're very much hands-on in this community." Robert Gardner, Genco Resources Ltd.

Bryan Johnson has worked for 27 years in the alternative investment business, first as a portfolio manager for two family offices, then as founder of a family office consultancy where he worked with about 63 families investing $3 billion in private equity and hedge funds .
Since 2010 he helped over 300 smaller fund managers with the holistic challenge of formulating and implementing appropriate marketing processes. With 9 out of 10 managers failing to grow over a $100m assets, smaller managers face an existential marketing challenge. The average asset size of funds liquidated in 4Q14 was $76m one year prior to closing.
Johnson believes that the primary reason why most managers do not get over the hundred million hurdle is not because of poor performance, but because of poor marketing. And the problem behind that is that most managers do not have a structured, disciplined and focused marketing process to articulate not only their investment processes, skills and ability to generate sustainable ALPHA but enterprise-wide processes, operational strength and execution blueprint to the right investors. Managers should honestly reflect about their outreach procedures and aim to avoid the “unstructured, ad-hoc and inappropriate” marketing behavior that unfortunately seems to have become the norm and leads to chronic difficulty and failure raising assets.
Most founders also tend to underestimate “the length of the runway”, i.e. the temporal expansion of the allocation process, particularly since the credit crisis. Gaining the attention of the right investors is a huge challenge, while at the same time investor due diligence has grown exponentially, leaving many managers overwhelmed to the extend that Johnson actually talks out 25% of them from starting a fund business. Not everyone is ready for Johnson’s tough coaching, and many founders waste two years before they realize they don’t do a good job in building their business. However, the small minority of funds that adopts the right marketing process early on have demonstrated they are able to raise four times more money than the top performing funds.

Johnson initially came to Texas as chief expert witness and lead consultant for The Attorney General of Texas and The State of Texas in the evaluation of hedge funds and private equity firms in the acquisition of the assets of Texas Genco in the multi-billion dollar true-up of Centerpoint Energy (CNP:NYSE). He then became global head of the alternative investment group at Moody’s where he was involved with the deployment and global distribution of an operational risk product to large hedge funds like SAC, King Street, Millennium, Fortress, Marshall Wace, Brevan Howard.
