It took 3 months to finish this personal project. A lot of research went into this in order to depict as historically accurate as possible the arrival of the Spanish army to the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan for the first time. I'm aware the original city was bigger, but the project was getting so heavy for my computer to handle so I had to cut content.
This project was done in 3ds Max, Vray and Blender. Comped in Nuke and Davinci for Color grade.

Fall of Tenochtitlan (1521) - Spanish-Aztec War DOCUMENTARY
In our previous animated historical documentary we have described the first meeting between the Spanish conquistadors of Hernan Cortes and the Aztec civilization that was led by Moctezuma (http://bit.ly/2ITagGu). Soon their relationship turned hostile. In this video we will show the results of this hostility - La Noche Triste (The Night of Sorrow) and the Fall of Tenochtitlan.

Tenochtitlan (The Impossible City)
Tenochtitlan was a city-state located on an island in Lake Texcoco in the Valley of Mexico. Founded in 1325, it became the seat of the growing Aztec Empire in the 15th century, until it was captured by the Spanish in 1521. Today the ruins of Tenochtitlan are located in the central part of Mexico City.

Mexico-Tenochtitlan
The Mexica grew Mexico-Tenochtitlan from a swampy, rattle-snake infested small island no one wanted... to a 4.6 sq. mile metropolis, which was one of the biggest cities in the world. More than 200,000 people lived there.

I visited the “BEST CITY in the world”
Let me tell you the TRUTH about the best city in the world according to Travel and Leisure and Conde Nast Traveler Magazines, multiple years in a row. I’m talking about San Miguel de Allende, a small city of about 170,000 people, a four hour drive from Mexico City. Promoted for its charm, food, culture, and people. The first thing I noticed about the people? They’re a lot older and whiter than the average Mexican. I talked to a couple American retirees who live here part time, who said retirees move here because it’s cheaper than where they came from, and not real Mexico. Lonely Planet even called it Disneyland for American and Canadian retirees. I can see why. The historic center is upscale, but affordable on a western salary.
