The Four Temperaments - How To Assess People Quickly
The Four Temperament Theory is a proto-psychological theory suggesting that the four temperaments - Sanguine, Choleric, Phlegmatic, and Melancholic - are, in essence, the four fundamental personality types. This model takes into consideration whether a person is an introvert or an extrovert, and whether they are more emotional or rational. These factors can determine how someone behaves and reacts in certain situations.
This is one of the oldest theories about personality types. And while it is not part of modern psychology, the 4 temperaments remained well known throughout history.
Nonetheless, if you enjoy self discovery and learning about human psychology and behavior, you will likely find this ancient idea rather interesting!

Child Temperament: How We Start to Become Ourselves | David C Rettew | TEDxBurlingtonED
This talk will start with a very brief description of what child temperament is and how it develops over time. Particular attention will be given to how a child’s temperament can pull from the environment certain qualities that often serve to accentuate traits and propel them to become more extreme. The role of a parent will then be discussed, including issues of labelling children and the important task of being able to “override” natural but sometimes suboptimal parental responses. Finally, there will be a short investigation into what we know about the boundaries between what are called temperament or personality traits and what are called psychiatric symptoms or disorders.

David Rettew is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He is the Training Director of the UVM Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship and the Director of the Pediatric Psychiatry Clinic at the UVM Medical Center. He completed his adult and child psychiatry training at Harvard Medical School within the Massachusetts General and McLean Hospital program. Dr. Rettew joined the UVM faculty in 2002 where he divides his time between clinical, teaching and research activities. His main research interest is the role of temperament and personality factors in childhood psychiatric disorders. Dr. Rettew has over 100 published journal articles, chapters, and scientific abstracts on a variety of child mental health topics, including a recent book entitled Child Temperament: New Thinking About the Boundary Between Traits and Illness. He also writes a blog for Psychology Today called the “ABCs of Child Psychiatry.”
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

What do the four temperaments reveal about you and your fellow human beings? The four-temperament model can help you to understand yourself as well as every person you meet.
What does a person focus on? What motivates him or her? What are his or her defence mechanisms? We will tell you in this video!
The temperament theory exists for over 2000 years. At first, it was part of humoral pathology in ancient medicine. It no longer plays any role in medical matters. Its psychological significance is all the greater. Because of its precision and simplicity, it is still as up to date and effective as ever and forms the basis of many other classification systems.
The four temperaments are: the sanguine, the choleric, the melancholic and the phlegmatic.

How Pythagoras Broke Music (and how we kind of fixed it)
How does music work? What did an Ancient Greek philosopher have to do with it? Why did he keep drowning people?
Discover the answers to these questions and more as we take a tour through musical tuning systems, examining how the power of mathematics has helped us build and rebuild our methods of creating music throughout history. Pythagorean tuning, the Pythagorean comma, equal temperament - learn what these are and how they shaped the way we make music today.

The Mathematical Problem with Music, and How to Solve It
There is a serious mathematical problem with the tuning of musical instruments. A problem that even Galileo, Newton, and Euler tried to solve. This video is about this problem and about some of the ways to tackle it. It starts from the basic physics of sound, proves mathematically why some musical instruments can never be perfectly in tune, and then introduces the main solutions that were proposed to solve this problem, along with their upsides and downsides: Pythagorean tuning, Just intonation, the Meantone temperament, and finally – the equal temperament, which is the tuning system almost everybody uses today in the West.

A Bach prelude in three different temperaments.
UPDATE 31 March 2022: Based on many comments and suggestions, I decided to make a series of three videos in which I explain some basic concepts relating to temperaments, provide demonstrations of intervals, chords, and short passages played in different temperaments, and discuss how temperaments enhance musical expression. The links to the first two videos are below, and I will update this notice when I post the third video. I am grateful for your input, and hope you will find these videos helpful!

Pythagorean vs Just Intonation | A Paradox of Playing in Tune
Want to play better in tune on the violin? Here is a brief overview of the pythagorean and just intonation tuning systems. In addition to having a good sense of relative pitch and left hand fundamentals, string players also need to have a basic understanding of both vertical and horizontal intonation, and through experience learn how to adjust in real time to stay in tune with an ensemble. Just intonation is built on the harmonic series, and pythagorean system is based on perfect fifths. One helps tune harmonies; the other, melodic lines. String players typically use a combination of the two, and sometimes compromises are necessary - this is especially apparent in chamber music and solo repertoire that has many double stops (ie - Solo Bach, Ysaye Sonatas, etc)

📘To learn about the history of different tuning systems, and explore this topic in greater detail, I strongly recommend Ross Duffin's book "How Equal Temperament Ruined Harmony (and why you should care." Check it out here: ➡ https://amzn.to/3gsflXk
