English Lyrics:
CARMEN
Love is a rebellious bird
that no one can tame,
and it’s quite useless to call him
if it suits him refuse.
Nothing moves him, neither threat nor plea,
one man speaks freely, the other keeps mum;
and it’s the other one I prefer:
he’s said nothing, but I like him.
Love! etc.
CHORUS
Love is a rebellious bird, etc.
CARMEN
Love is a gypsy child,
he has never heard of law.
If you don’t love me, I love you;
if I love you, look out for yourself! etc.
CHORUS
Look out for yours...

Maria Callas -Sonnambula 1955 Act 1 duet with REAL ENDING!
This has what i assume is the CORRECT ending to the duet, which sounds completely different to the EMI CD.
The CD in question is EMI 5 67906. The note on the CD sounds like it came from one of the 1957 performances. The way it merges with the applause and music had always bugged me but I thought it was just a bad master tape.
Until I got GOP12. I was listening to it with headphones on, and wasn't expecting such a huge sound at the end, it nearly killed my ears!
WARNING TO HEADPHONE USERS! FINAL NOTE WILL KILL YOU OR MAKE YOU BALD AT LOUD VOLUME!
Also, there are a few random noises at the start that I couldn't get rid of, but there aren't any loud pops or clicks, only some faint ones.

Maria Callas "CARMEN - HABANERA"
Scenes from movie : Callas Forever
Greatest Opera singer ever. Haunting and mesmerizing voice, was burning with strange eroticism and a fatal thirst for freedom and life. . She's my favorite goddess, of passion, of character, of pure defiance, fiery, sensual woman. Lost in her own romantic confusion, in her inability to find solace in the arms of a person whom she could truly love.

love’s far away, and you can wait for it:
you wait for it no longer – and there it is.
All around you, quickly, quickly,

you think you can hold it, it evades you,
you think to evade it, it holds you fast.

The images are mostly relating to the 1955 production, but there are a few from 1957.
And yes, I realise that there is a photo in the video that is of Maria from a performance of Norma :)
For anyone who doesn't know and is wondering, the song is called "Son geloso del Zefiro Errante", and Maria sings with Cesare Valletti.

The pirate Corrado lives on an island in the
Aegean. While he is making plans with his
lieutenant Giovanni to sail off and attack the
Muslim harbour city of Corone, his mistress,
Medora, sits alone in her room waiting for him.
She expresses her anxiety over his absence in a
doleful song, accompanying herself on a harp.
MEDORA
Still he does not return!
Oh how long an eternity
the hours seem when he is away!
(She takes up her harp.)
Come, my harp, that has lain silent, add
your voice to my sighs, so that my doleful
lament may faster reach the heart of my
faithful
lover, carried on the wings of the wind.
I cannot dispel the uneasy fantasies
of my thoughts,
condemned as I am to suffer
in the shadow of a mystery.
Even if a pale ray of hope
shines on me,
it is only the passing flash
of deceitful lightning.
Better to die! Then my soul
might fly up to Gods embrace,
and my Corrado might come
to weep over my remains.
A loving tear is the only reward
I ask for my love;
manly virtue is not denied by weeping
for one who has died for love.

Posvuda oko tebe, brzo, brzo

English Translation
You have known the vanities of this world,
and now enjoy the grave's last rest,
if there is still pity in heaven
mourn over my sorrow
and carry my tears
at the Lord's presence.
Carlos will come!
he must leave and forget...
I've sworn to Posa
to watch over him.
He must fulfil his destiny,
glory will show him the way.
As for me, my day
has already come to an end!
France, noble land,
so loved in my younger days!
Fontainebleau! All my thoughts
go to you!
There I swore eternal love
To God who heard me
and eternity
lasted only one day.
O merry gardens
of this Iberian land,
if Carlos should yet
stop here at the end of the day,
let the tufts, the brooks,
the fountains, the woods and flowers
with their melodies
sing of our love.
Farewell, farewell golden dreams,
lost hopes!
The knot was cut,
light has lost its splendour!
Farewell, farewell, my younger years!
Giving in under the cruel suffering
my heart has only one desire:
the peace of the grave!
You have known the vanities
of this world, etc.
If there is still pity in heaven, ah,
carry my sorrow at the feet of the Lord!
Check out also the playlist "Angela Gheorghiu - A Vocal Portrait of the Great Diva": it contains 200 clips adding up to more than 25 hours of superb music - it is Youtube's most comprehensive resource on Angela Gheorghiu (you find the playlist by doing a Youtube search with the full name of the playlist).
Frequently compared with MARIA CALLAS for her innate musicality, dramatic flair, sense of style, and exquisite musicianship, and with RENATA TEBALDI for the extraordinary quality of her voice and her natural affinity for verismo roles, Romanian soprano ANGELA GHEORGHIU is the most known contemporary soprano and probably the only one from the current generation who will be remembered 100 years from now. Gheorghiu's luscious, ravishingly beautiful timbre is instantly recognizable and her stage presence, glamour, and charisma are legendary. Situated in the transition zone between full lyric and spinto, her velvety, silvery, slightly veiled voice conveys morbidezza and is remarkably phonogenic and rich in harmonics.
"Anytime I think that something is beyond this woman's capacity, she ALWAYS proves me wrong. Whatever reservations I may have had about her choice of repertory, I would never deny that Gheorghiu is probably the greatest soprano in the world now. I am a collector of opera recordings with some 60 other sopranos in my collection, so this isn't something I would say lightly. To badly paraphrase Lord Byron, all that's best of dark and bright meet in her aspect and her voice. Listening to her sing is like looking at a nebula through a telescope and seeing the glowing of new stars cradled in the interstellar dust that gave them birth. Her voice has power in addition to sweetness, and most important of all, it has soul. Gheorghiu's technique and musicianship are superb. More important is her superb sense of line, her beautiful control of dynamics (all the way down to heavenly pianissimi), her intelligence, her instinctively right feelings regarding musical expression. With Gheorghiu, like with Callas, it is the music first and foremost which dictates her emotions. As many others have noted, she finds the right individual voice and personality for every character and situation, and not only that, she makes each individual word mean something. Gheorghiu is a rarity, a singer of true individuality and genius. May she continue to astonish us." Joy Fleisig, New York (Amazon.com review)
"I continue to feel that Angela Gheorghiu's voice comes the closest to Maria Callas's in tone, texture, and focus. There is a voltage factor in her voice that I have yet to match in any modern classical soprano. I am never disappointed. And I am always energized by her incredible concentration. She always draws me into wanting more....." (comment made on Youtube by user johntmarohn1)

Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu's magnificent live rendition of Elisabetta's act V aria "Tu Che Le Vanità" (Verdi, Don Carlo; 1867). The context of the aria: "The moonlit monastery of Yuste - Elisabetta kneels before the tomb of Charles V. She is committed to help Don Carlo on his way to fulfill his destiny in Flanders, but she herself longs only for death". Angela's recordings of "Don Carlo" began in 1998, with the studio recording of the opera's final duet, under Claudio Abbado ("Verdi per Due" CD Album; EMI), and continued with the recording of "Tu Che Le Vanità" in 2000, under Riccardo Chailly ("Verdi Heroines" CD Album; Decca).
English Translation
You have known the vanities of this world,
and now enjoy the grave's last rest,
if there is still pity in heaven
mourn over my sorrow
and carry my tears
at the Lord's presence.
Carlos will come!
he must leave and forget...
I've sworn to Posa
to watch over him.
He must fulfil his destiny,
glory will show him the way.
As for me, my day
has already come to an end!
France, noble land,
so loved in my younger days!
Fontainebleau! All my thoughts
go to you!
There I swore eternal love
To God who heard me
and eternity
lasted only one day.
O merry gardens
of this Iberian land,
if Carlos should yet
stop here at the end of the day,
let the tufts, the brooks,
the fountains, the woods and flowers
with their melodies
sing of our love.
Farewell, farewell golden dreams,
lost hopes!
The knot was cut,
light has lost its splendour!
Farewell, farewell, my younger years!
Giving in under the cruel suffering
my heart has only one desire:
the peace of the grave!
You have known the vanities
of this world, etc.
If there is still pity in heaven, ah,
carry my sorrow at the feet of the Lord!
