The history of Tangier is very rich, due to the historical presence of many civilizations and cultures starting from before the 5th century BCE. Between the period of being a strategic Berber town and then a Phoenician trading center to the independence era around the 1950s, Tangier was a refuge for many cultures. In 1923, Tangier was considered as having international status by foreign colonial powers, and became a destination for many European and American diplomats, spies, writers and businessmen.
The city is currently undergoing rapid development and modernization. Projects include new tourism projects along the bay, a modern business district called Tangier City Center, a new airport terminal and a new football stadium. Tangier's economy is also set to benefit greatly from the new Tanger-Med port.
Tangier was a popular Philadelphia-based Americanrock band active in the late 1980s and early 90s.
Biography
Tangier formed in Philadelphia by songwriter and guitarist Doug Gordon and grew up in the clubs with bands such as Cinderella, who would later help the group out by having Tangier open for them on their second major tour. The first, independent self-titled debut album, comprising Bill Mattson (vocals), Doug Gordon (guitar, songwriter), Rocco Mazzella (guitar, songwriter), Mike Kost (bass) and Mark Hopkins (drums).
After minor local success, Doug decided to disband Tangier, take time off and start fresh.
Doug wrote material and put together a new version of Tangier, utilizing only Mattson from the previous lineup. Douglas Gordon's competence as a rock lead guitarist was "PRO-FILED" by Guitar World in its October 89 issue, p.118: "..... And on "Sweet Surrender," the album's tour de force. Gordon, after a growling 1-3-5 bass-note riff, launches into a dizzying, double tracked barn burner that suggests a summit meeting between Winter and Danny Gatton. This man can blaze."
Garry Nutt was brought on board, as well as Gari Saint on guitar and Jimmy Drnec on drums.
The new, unnamed band recorded demos and sought management and hooked up with Larry Mazer.
The band showcased for many labels and was finally signed by Derek Schulman, who was to head up the newly reborn and revamped ATCO label. Veteran producer Andy Johns was selected for "Four Winds."
Bobby Bender was secured for the drums prior to recording "Four Winds."
The name Tangier was again used out of convenience and familiarity.
It produced the hit singles "On The Line" and "Southbound Train". A prolific writer, Douglas Gordon wrote every verse and note on "Four Winds".
The plot tells a tale of an escaped Nazi war criminal who is a diamond smuggler.
The film was made at the insistence of Maria Montez who was sick of being typecast in Technicolor oriental adventures.
Production
The film was originally entitled Flame of Stamboul and was to star Montez, John Hall and Turhan Bey. Alice Miller wrote the script which was set in Turkey. However the story was felt to be politically problematic for neutral Turkey and filming was postponed. The project was reactivated after the war and set in Tangiers, leading to the change in title. The villains were agents from Franco's Spain. Then this was changed to they were from a non specific nationality.
Morocco (i/məˈrɒkoʊ/; Arabic:المغربal-Maġrib; Berber: ⵍⵎⴰⵖⵔⵉⴱl'Meġrib; French:Maroc), officially the Kingdom of Morocco, is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa. Geographically, Morocco is characterized by a rugged mountainous interior and large portions of desert. It is one of only three countries (with Spain and France) to have both Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines. The Arabic name al-Mamlakah al-Maghribiyah (Arabic:المملكة المغربية, meaning "The Western Kingdom") and Al-Maghrib (Arabic:المغرب, meaning "The West") are commonly used as alternate names.
Morocco has a population of over 33.8million and an area of 446,550km2 (172,410sqmi). Its political capital is Rabat, although the largest city is Casablanca; other major cities include Marrakesh, Tangier, Tetouan, Salé, Fes, Agadir, Meknes, Oujda, Kenitra, and Nador. A historically prominent regional power, Morocco has a history of independence not shared by its neighbours. Its distinct culture is a blend of Arab, indigenous Berber, Sub-Saharan African, and European influences.
The Morocco Pavilion is a Morocco-themed pavilion that is part of the World Showcase, within Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. It was the first expansion pavilion to be added to World Showcase, opening on September 7, 1984.
Its location is between the Japanese and French Pavilions.
Layout
The Morocco Pavilion, designed to look like a Moroccan city with a realistic Minaret, features the only pavilion in which the country's government aided in the design. Guests to the pavilion gain insight on the lifestyle and culture of the Moroccan people through the Gallery of Arts and History. The Fes House shows guests the typical Moroccan house. Inside the pavilion, North African plants including citrus trees, date palms, and olive trees, and fountains can be seen. The courtyard plays hosts to entertainment, including a belly dancing show in the evening. Restaurant Marrakesh, along with the Tangierine Cafe, serve Moroccan fare, including roast lamb in Tajine, Couscous, and Harira soup. Six shops adorn the pavilion, selling patrons everything from rugs to leather goods, and traditional Moroccan clothing.

This town is included in the program we call "morocco private tours" as you may already know this channel represent a "Morocco travel agency" called "Hyper Morocco Tours" we also post video that have valuable information about Morocco, and our luxury tours
The History of Tangier is very interesting, because of its unique location it was always a target to conquer for many empires since the beginning of mankind. It was founded as a Phoenician colony, as early as the 10th century BC (possibly) and almost certainly by the 8th century BC. It went from there to the The Carthaginians that added it to their empire around the 5th century BC. next Tangier got under the rule of the Mauretanian kings, followed by the Romans. The Greeks knew this town as Tingis, Legend says that Tinjis that is the daughter of Atlas, slept with Hercules and bore him the son Syphax. After Tinjis' death, Syphax founded the port and named it in her honour. The story goes on by telling that Hercules took a rest on Cape Spartel during his labors in what's called now "Cave of Hercules" (Watch video of Hercules cave here: https://youtu.be/y7vWimGSGC4)..
In Modern History Tangier fell under many reigns:
Portugal: 1471–1580
Spain: 1580-1640
Portugal: 1640-1661
England: 1661–1684
Morocco: 1684–1912
Spain: 1912–1924
It was also declared an International city between 1924 and 1956 under an international convention signed in Paris on 18 December 1923. Finally it came back to Morocco in 1956 when Morocco obtained its indipendance.
Tangiers is the second most important industrial centre in Morocco after Casablanca. With many industrial sectors but mainly textile and metallurgical industries.. recently four industrial parks were built in Tangier. Two of them have the status of free economic zone, which brought many foreign investment to the aria and created thousands of stable jobs.

Next up we headed to Tangier beach to ride a camel. It cost about 5 euro per person for a 30 minute ride along the beach. If you don't make it down to the Sahara you should definitely try to ride a camel in Tangier.
There is two restaurants I recommend when in Tangier, Riad Tanja and the El Morocco Club. Riad Tanja, has live music every night and serves some delicious moroccan tangines. El Morocco Club serves more of a gourmet fusion Moroccan cuisine mixed with a few other cuisines.
This is Dar Nour Guest House, one of the few properties located in the Kasbah. It's a boutique bed and breakfast, they have 10 rooms and they have 3 terraces on the roof top with a 360 degree view of Tangier.
Have you been to Tangier? Let me know what you thought of this beautiful Moroccan city!

Located on the northwestern of Morocco, on the Moroccan coast at the western entrance to the strait of Gibraltar, Tangier is a major city at a major location where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic
Ocean off Cape Spartel, It is the capital of the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, as well as the Tangier- Assilah prefecture of Morocco.
Tangier history is considered one of the richest histories in all of Morocco, the reason of that is many
different cultures and civilizations passed through this area, at first it was a Berber small town then
changed into a Phoenician trading center to the independence era around the 1 950s, and then became a destination for many European and American diplomats, spies, writers and businessmen.

The town is the capital of the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region (following the new devision system of the kingdom).

Anthony Bourdain explores the "Interzone", where artists like Burroughs, Bowles and the Rolling Stones sought escape from western moral prohibitions and the possibilities of great empty spaces.

During our roadtrip all over Andalusia in November 2017 we've decided to make quick visit to Morocco.
We took morning ferry from Tarifa, Spain and in one hour we were in Tangier, Morocco. We spend there couple hours, walk through old town and took evening ferry back to Spain.
What we saw there you can see in this video.
Enjoy!
